Sorry no back cover taken before I shipped this out to CGC but I don't recall anything that sticks out, back looks pretty clean. Personally I'm hoping for a 8.0 grade but its so hard to tell as the black cover really pronouces those spine ticks.

Wow! I think that is easily an 8.0. But maybe I'm biased in terms of being more leniant on a Golden Age book in such nice shape.

I find that CGC is fairly harsh on books with black (or white) covers, but those colors look phenomenal, especially the black. Other than the few spine stresses, book looks great. Maybe they took off for the back cover?

Andy, I saw the book in hand and it looked really good. I wonder if there wasnt some interior tanning that it got hammered for?

Definatly looks better than a F/VF

Grading notes reveal:

 

Crinkles on the cover, chew on the back bottom cover, foxing on the back cover and spine stress that break color.

That helps explain the grade - are the crinkles in addition to the visible spine stress, and are they visible in the scan?

 

Also, what was Metro's grade?

Consider asking Metro for a bit of store credit? That's way off the mark with grading, although we all thought it was nicer too.

Yeah but they are the professionals not me so they should be able to pick up rat chew, etc. I've been down this road before so I don't know if I even want to bother.

I've never seen an 8.888+++ with a rat chew before......
