A hypotheticle situation, just for fun............

If you had no comics in your collection and were given only $500.00 to spend, and had to invest in at least 6 books, which would they be? 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

Sorry, spending the entire amount on 1 book would have been too easy. grin.gif

Limited to $500, I'd go for a value purchase...

DC 100 Page Super-Spectaculars 6-22

Detective Comics 437-443

...all in Fine unfortunately to make the budget.

For that, you'd get a great diversity of Golden Age, Silver Age and Bronze Age classics.

Cheers,

Z.

Just for fun I would buy the following books, mainly because I like them and think they are highly collectable.

Marvel Premiere #15

Special Marvel Edition #15

Hero For Hire #1

Ms. Marvel #16

Incredible Hulk #162

ASM #124

Might be a stretch for $500 in NM ...

1. USM 1 White

2. ASM 129

3. 30 Days of night 1-3 1st print

4. Dark Days

5. Punisher vol 3 1-12 maxi series (Ennis Punisher)

6. Hulk 340

7. Hulk 8 vol 3

Uh....Darth. With the current market for ASM 129, a POS copy would use up the ENTIRE $500 tongue.gif

What is the purpose of your spending - to make more money? or have cool books. If you're looking for rapid flipping to maximize profits, take your $500 to a show and scour $1 bins. You can make that $500 into $1500 without much effort if you know what you're doing.

Not directed at Donut, but I was thinking along these lines when I answered - I'm looking for the quick flip on 5- 10 books based on what's hot now. hulk books vs wolverine - not everyone can afford the 181 from 1974 so, most casual collectors today wnat hulk 340 or hulk 8 vol 3...easy flip if you know what you are doing...

$500 you say....let's see.

1) Cable #1

2) X-Force #1

3) X-O Manowar #1

4) Spiderman #1 (must be polybagged version)

5) X-Men #1 (all 4 covers)

6) Wolverine #1....... from the new series that started over again for absolutely no freekin reason but to [!@#%^&^] me off.

Now, just so you all know, i have personally selected these comics as the absolute esentials in ANY collection. They are all primed to skyrocket in price very, very shortly. I do not believe that you need waste your hard earned money on anymore comics as these will be all you are EVER going to need. They are all extremely RARE due to their very LOW print runs.

Oh, as for the rest of the money............... PORN. cool.gif

5. Tales to Astonish #90

6 X-men #101

again, I have to ask what's the purpose of your investment - are you looking for a quick flip or long term investment purposes? Everything listed above outside of Darth's stuff is long term plays. If you want to have a big rate of return, buying a TTA 90 isn't going to get it done.

What are you talking about the TTA 90 will be huge if Abomination is in the next Hulk movie. You will double your investment for sure its his first app. makepoint.gif

As Donut said this book is a much longer term play, you won't make any big returns on it for a few more years.

Well then in the 6 books I chose would be a short term investment, a year to two years before I would turn them into profit. Darth's Books are pretty liquid right now. 30 days of night will be Caliber Presents #1 and Aircel's Men in Black comics a year after the movie comes out. Worth a lot less like 10% of current value ........:(

You're speculating that you will double your money, so you're looking at a 33% average rate of return over 3 years. I can quintuple your money in 8 weeks. It is a lot more work, and you have to know what you're doing, but if you crawl through dollar bins at a show, you'll find stuff. Like this, for example, which I bought this morning for $4.

A year to two? I'm thinking six weeks.
