Are we ever going to get to hear the story behind these?

I believe Moondog acquired these at the same time that he acquired all his other DC ashcans. If you're at all interested in ashcans, you should get a copy of Comic Book Marketplace # 71. Gary wrote a lengthy article where he describes how he "stumbled" upon them. The article also lists all known DC ashcans, including how many known copies exist of each, as well as photos of most (if not all) of them.

 

The 8 variations of Screen/Movie titles (all with the same cover art from Boy Commandos #1) exist only as covers. There is no interior artwork. The back and inside covers are blank. As far as Animal Antics: one ashcan copy exists as a full book & there are a coupe loose covers also. Unlike the Screen/Movie titles, Animal Antics went on to be published.

Intriguing that not only was this cover art for another book, but not even one title was used by DC!

If anyone is looking for a copy of Comic Book Marketplace #71 there is one copy on eBay now. A tough issue to find as everyone likes this one.

True - I bought mine from Mile High & had to pay $15 I think. But it's worth it!
