U could have got rich selling Marvel Mystery #2 to Theo Holstein. He was paying the same nm buy price as Marvel Comics 1 (Timely) $8k at the time. screwy.gif

Yeah, but what if he wanted to skake your hand to seal the deal?

sign-funnypost.giflol!

So who was that Theo guy anyway and what's his story? Bob mentioned in another thread that he bought an Action 1 from Bruce Hamilton back in the early 70s so I guess he was a big early collector. Did you know him?

(Hmm... tth's real name is Tim, right? Just checking.) 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

One of my all-time favorite ads from the 1976 OPG. Check out the dude's pic - he looks like he just stepped off the set of a 70's porn film. Scary thing is, I think he's serious! 893whatthe.gif

Bow-Wow Chicka-Chicka! cool.gif

Man, CGC has really dropped the ball on this one....I have yet to see a single label of theirs marked "from the collection of Theo Holstein" 27_laughing.gif

How about that Tough Kid Squad #1 for $2000, as opposed to Superman #1 and Captain America #1 for $1500 each! 893whatthe.gif

I guess Tough Kid Squad used to be a Timely grail. I assume its lustre has faded somewhat?

I knew this guy looked farmiliar, and it hit me like a brick as I was flipping thru my DirecTV movie channels just now......Theo looks exactly like the character Ben Stiller plays in the movie Dodgeball ! ( if you never saw Dodgeball, please disregard this post )

was there really a character called "gay ghost"

Yes - remember this was 1940's America not 21st century West Hollywood!

That Theo Holstein ad is an all-time classic. I remember seeing it for the first time and being somewhat taken off guard (to say the least).

How many different middle initials did Howard use throughout his mail order career?

I seem to remember 4. Anyone else?

Don't you love the "clear tape is not considered a defect"?

This thread also reminds me that I sent payment to Gerry Ross back in 1976 for a JIM 112, and never received it! Think he would still honor the sale??
