let's see yesteryears prices....post old Golden Age "for sale" ads !

My how things have changed over the years....prices that is!

I just recieved in the mail a 1996 copy of Comic Book Marketplace today, and found this for sale ad by Showcase New England. I thought it would be interesting if others were to post similar ads....the older the better! Let's see how cheap our books used to be compared to today, or in some cases maybe they are cheaper now?.... old ads wanted!

How much would those books be listed at today? Would there really be much of a difference with all of the restoration outside of the Superman #1?

Some may have gone down. Case in point, More Fun 52: restored copies of that book in apparent high grade were moving for large dollars 15- 20k in the early to mid 90's. I haven't seen that happening in a while, unless some have slipped under my radar. (or were restored pedigrees). I've been offered it for less than 10K more than once in the last two years.

Great idea for a thread, but IMO you need to go back a bit further, or alternatively check those old issues of CBG when it was a heavy broadsheet type paper crammed with endless bargains (and was the focal point of the hobby outside of Cons).

There are also some pics from Gateway '68 that show the Hulk cover that just sold, I'm going to post them over in the Original Art forum, plus some other cool covers.

Check out this guy going through the pile of Atlas books with the JIM on top!

this is a dealers ad from 1971....books are Silver Age, but since this is my thread, and I'm breaking the "Golden Age only" rule!

It's cool...this was the "Golden Age" of collecting....ish. Well, that weird, anti-deluvian, non-regulated era, anyway...

Another thread where I can show some of my accumulated krap... 893applaud-thumb.gif

When I would get my TBG's in the mail I would go through them and cut out the stuff I was interested in...hence the following ad ...off course I didn't cut out the page for the ad I am displaying...rather..there was a print for sale by Ron Lightburn on the opposite side that I had purchased for my daughter when she was about 3 years old... smile.gif

One of my all-time favorite ads from the 1976 OPG. Check out the dude's pic - he looks like he just stepped off the set of a 70's porn film. Scary thing is, I think he's serious! 893whatthe.gif

Bow-Wow Chicka-Chicka! cool.gif

I found that ad disturbing back in 76 and still find it disturbing today.
