Does anyone collect Leading Comics?

12 posts in this topic

I've never owned any Leading Comics as an adult. I had a few beaters when I was a kid but they didn't thrill me back then. Does anbody here collect them or have any thoughts about them? The 1st issue was pictured in another thread and got me thinking about them and wondering why they get no respect.

Mostly because it is full of third tier characters from the DC/AA stable. It might be a fun run to collect, at least the first 14 anyway. I've toyed with the idea a time or two.

I don't know anyine who collects them. I see quite a few pop up and in many cases the same copies so it seems they just get passed around, sort of like the misfit toys on Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer.

C'mon - give some respect - this is the SEVEN SOLDIERS OF VICTORY we're talking about here ! The Star Spangled Kid & Stripesy themselves can kick some serious booty-tang smile.gif

But really seriously - I had copies of #1(Non CGC abt 5.0-6.0), #6(CGC 6.5) & #10(CGC 8.5) that I sold on ebay about 5 years ago - and are some of the few books that I don't regret selling ( I regret selling everything for about 10 years after the sale) although I rarely see copies for sale, and when I do, sometimes I wistfully think I'd like to have 'em back - so I guess I do miss them! - well maybe the #10 because it was an off-beat cover! insane.gif

Is there any significant issues? I think Simon and Kirby did some covers. Were some of the stories at least decent? If they are good reading I might pick some up. Were they a popular title? I just kinda feel sorry for the title, I don't know, maybe that's why I collect Top Notch. Besides being a tight wad.
