Anyone going to this LA convention?

Yeah I looked through there, but noone really mentioned anything about the convetion in particular. I was just wondering what peoples thoughts were on it. Why does it get a bad rap or why do you give it one? Thanks.

Well, for a few years there they drifted away from comics and had more and more adult movie/magazine dealers there. They would have adult film stars and models there promoting them. I mean that was the perfect demographic for them to sell to at the comic convention.

 

However, it was difficult to take kids there and try to protect them from that. The promoter realized his shows were going downhill, so he switched the show from monthly to bi-monthly. He cut down on the number of porn sellers and has tried to increase the comic and comic-related booths at his shows.

 

Now, on the comic side, many of the sellers there are guys who regularly attend the show, who do not get in new stock. They are just trying to unload what they have and then they are done. Occasionally, there will dealers like Terry's Comic and Harley Yee who attend. In fact, Harley will be at this next show.

 

If you have the time, I think it is worthwhile to go to. Only because the lack of back issue venues in Los Angeles, makes this an opportunity to shop for them.

Great thanks for the background. I would have been disappointed had I gone while models had been there promoting their stuff. I'm not a big fan of woman exploiting their looks to try and make a sale, but sadly thats how many things are.

Hopefully I'll find a deal on something I like there. Lately I have just been buying comics in the 5 for a $1 bin to expose myself to this great new world I've discovered. But I think I wanna start some solid runs; Thor of course . I'm also liking the looks of Black Panther, Deadpool, and Daredevil. Well time to go take a test, hopefully I'll see a board member there. Look for the white kid with red hair...most likely sporting a solid Cardinal colored USC shirt. Beat the Bruins!!!
