Pedigree

Hoo-boy, queue all the pedigree hot-button debates. sign-rantpost.gif

There is no official individual or group in the comic collecting world who is required to approve and anoint certain collections with pedigree status! This statement is just not true -

They have to be recognized by an individual, or group, that is well established in the industry.

CGC does enjoy a special ability to denote certain groups of comics with a designation because of their role in slabbing comics. They get to decide what to put on the label after all! Of course, even what they put on the label is often controversial because there is a lot of debate about some designations being merely "collections" while others are said to be of that loftier category of "pedigrees".

IIRC in their early years CGC stated that they would simply try to reflect what they saw in the marketplace as accepted collections/pedigrees and note that on the label. Recently there has been an attempt by CGC to define what they are going to consider worthy of such labeling.

Bottom line - if you want to call a bunch of comics a pedigree, go for it. Design and have printed some fancy certificates. There's nothing to stop you. 893whatthe.gif

However, your self-proclaimed pedigree might not be accepted by the marketplace, ie, if you don't get a critical mass of collectors who are impressed enough to look for, talk about, or appreciate your collection then your pedigree won't amount to a hill of beans.
