MIKE PLOOG was the artist for the FIRST appearance of GHOST RIDER in MARVEL SPOTLIGHT #5 and WEREWOLF BY NIGHT in MARVEL SPOTLIGHT #2, and their regular series during the 1970's. MIKE was also the artist for other Marvel Comic Books such as THE MONSTER OF FRANKENSTEIN, MAN-THING, PLANET OF THE APES, and KULL THE DESTROYER. MIKE will be making a super rare personal appearance at the LOS ANGELES COMIC BOOK AND SCIENCE FICTION CONVENTION on SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 2007.

 

MIKE rarely makes personal appearances, and he's traveling from his home in England just to appear at this Con and meet fans of the 1970's bronze age of Comics. MIKE will also be appearing with Writer J.M. DEMATTEIS to sign copies of their fantasy book series for children, ABADAZAD, which will be available to purchase at the Con for only $10.00. MIKE and J.M. will appear on a stage panel at 11:00 A.M. to discuss what it was like working at MARVEL COMICS in the 1970's and 80's. J.M. was the writer for the popular Kraven the Hunter story arc in the 1980's SPIDER-MAN Comics, and he also handled JUSTICE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL, SUPERMAN, and SILVER SURFER. After the panel, MIKE and J.M. will be signing all day. MIKE was also the design and storyboard Artist for such films as JIM HENSON's THE DARK CRYSTAL and LABYRINTH, RALPH BASKHI's THE LORD OF THE RINGS and WIZARDS, DISNEY'S THE BLACK CAULDRON and RETURN TO OZ, GHOSTBUSTERS, X-MEN, SHREK, and JOHN CARPENTER'S THE THING!

 

Also appearing on stage at 1:00 P.M. will be ALFRED GOUGH and MILES MILLAR, the Creators/Writers of SMALLVILLE! STAR WARS ACTORS RAY PARK (DARTH MAUL), DANIEL LOGAN (BOBA FETT), and others will appear! Special give-aways include a FREE TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES MOVIE COMIC BOOK, FRANK MILLER'S 300 MOVIE BUTTON SET OF 6, SMALLVILLE POSTER, 300 and TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES MOVIE POSTER, and lots more. There will be 150 tables of Comic Books, Toys, and other collectibles at the show, making it one of the largest Comic Book shows on the west coast! And general admission is only $8.00! The LOS ANGELES COMIC BOOK AND SCIENCE FICTION CONVENTION is celebrating it's 30th anniversary, with over 300 shows having been held, making it the longest running Comic Book themed show after Comic Con International at 37 years. This is still an intimate, fun show, not set up with pipe and drape at each table, but traditional eight foot tables down rows. During the past few months the Con has given Dealers a great incentive to bring better stock, and not the same stuff.
