How would you grade....

How would you all grade an otherwise VF golden age comic with 3" upper and 1" lower spine splits that are on the cover only?

 

Think it deserves a qualified?

You could give it a Q grade - Qualified grades aren't really "grades" at all as they cover everything from signatures to incomplete books - more of a way of describing a tough to grade book.

 

 

In a case like this it's a more helpful description than 3.0, probably the technical grade.

A case can be made for a Q grade for sure; the Q label is used for books that have a significant defect that a needs specific description, ie spine split

That's a tough call.. I'd have to see the overall look myself. But a case could be made with those types of defects.

Book does not belong to me (though I wish it did!).

 

Spine splits or no, I could never bring myself to call this book a G/VG.

yeah.. I don't think it would get a "Qualifed label" but I could see a GA 6.0 (at best) IMO

Great eye-appeal, but with 40% of the spine split, a 4.0 would be very generous, let alone a 6.0.

I think since the split is not isiolated to one specific area. qualified label would not apply,and should be downgraded for the flaws that they are. Too many things going on to say.. if only for this, AND this.. it would be a.. .

I think you call it a VG/F. Without those it's a beauty! Putting qualified is the kiss of death.

I think most folks would give it at least a 4.0 to 5.0 and talk about how nice it looked.
