tb
The '30s shorts are very interesting. It's really cool how Disney used the shorts to experiment with new technology, such as animating humans in preparation for Snow White. One of the many things that find fascinating about the MM Mags is that many covers were used to promote shorts. Covers depicting Elmer Elephant and The Ugly Duckling are hardly prized by collectors today, but put into a historical context, both in terms of comics and animation, they become extremely interesting. It is my good fortune that few collectors appreciate this so these books sell for peanuts. Today, Pixar is using shorts in almost exactly the same way. They experimented with animation of cloth and skin in "Geri's Game", with rendering of feathers in "For the Birds", and, just like Disney 70 years ago, they've had their calculated share of failures. I am pretty sure that 30 years from now, when today's 4-6 year-olds reach their prime disposable income age, collectibles from "Toy Story" and original concept art from the Pixar movies will be highly valued by collectors. One of my friends just pointed me to the auction below, which is for a poster with the same art as MM Mag V4#8. It is an unrestored rag but still brought $3,400. Many of the covers from V3 and V4 are small pieces taken from a larger pieces of art. 1938 poster
Larryw7
Nothing super high grade, but this is the stuff I collect. and the back cover as well Plus a Christmas book that I posted in another thread but oh well. Sweet book! And it may not be "super high grade", but it sure looks nice for a 50+ year old comic.

rjpb
Excellent Lulu #1. About 10 years ago I passed on an opportunity to buy a VG Lulu#1 at a lcs for $50, and have regretted it since.

shiverbones
Nice Lulu Bob! I would be more then happy with the condition of that one! I see what you mean about Pixar Hkp, I do think Pixar is doing some nice work, its the other weaker Disney efforts Like Lilo & Stitch & Brother Bear and most of the other ones from the last 15 years or so I was reffering to. Pixar is exactly the shot in the arm needed!
bobpfef
Thanks guys. I was happy to get a Lulu #1, one of the bigger holes in my collection until recently. Got it for a reasonable price from a fellow Lulu collector who upgraded his copy. The purple cover really makes every little bit of spine stress show up. Still, I am really happy to have it. Now I just have to wait for my FC #74 to show up ...

Larryw7
This one just arrived today. A book I've wanted since I first heard about it(circa 1978). Now if only an affordable copy of BLOOD IS THE HARVEST would turn up.

rjpb
I'm jealous - I'd like an affordable copies of DEVIL & BLOOD myself.
Larryw7
I remember seeing both BLOOD & DEVIL at the Sparkle City Booth at a Philly Con in the late seventies. I was drooling over both of them. The very pleasant dealer-who put up with all of my stupid questions and who even gave me a free low grade copy of BATMAN 28-told me that of the two, DEVIL is definitely better. He even said it was great reading and had terrific artwork. BLOOD wasn't as good, he said, but he also added that it was rarer. One of these days I'll get BLOOD IS THE HARVEST. shrunkenhead
I've been wondering how rare America Menaced is in comparison to Blood is the Harvest...Blood is in the Gerber photojournals and ranked an 8, America Menaced isn't in there at all... Larryw7
I think AMERICA MENACED may be rarer than both of them. The attention on BLOOD & DEVIL caused a few to surface in the marketplace, but AMERICA MENACED just seems to be almost non-existent.
Forbush-Man
Here's a really nice book for sale at my LCS. Great WWII cover! And "NO", the tape & stickers are not on the comic, the scan is with the comic bagged. Just a really great Uncle Sam cover though! shrunkenhead
Wow, what the hell is your LCS?? I've gotten a few ECs out my LCS owner's personal stash, but usually the grooviest thing they have up on the wall is a vg copy of any given swamp thing issue...I'm jealous!
