Golden Age? Atomic Age? I guess it belongs here.

Blackhawk 56, Sept. 1952, one of four from the skypinkblu collection.

Nice looking reader copy with bright colors, featuring the War Wheel, one of my favorite Blackhawk images from the Cold War era.

Another skypinkblu book added to my meager Golden Age collection.

Blue Beetle 22, June 1943. Really amateurish cover, isn't it? Did Quinlan draw it? An office boy?

I picked this one to post partly to point out the Parachute Nurse feature to paratrooper.

Awesome. Just plain awesome. So, I guess when the Beetle isn't busting crime he's drawing the funny books.

Did someone just call one of my Golden Age books awesome?

:acclaim:

I've never used that smileyface before (because I've never needed it).

Thanks,

Jack

(BB should stick to crimebusting.)

Yup, took me forever to find that book, bought it from David T Alexander. Believe it's also a Gerber 8

I would have to say that "8" is fairly accurate. Gosh knows I've owned or seen a ton of BB's in my day, but that cover completely took me by surprise :o

Jack, sorry to quote this for the dozenth time but I would love to know more about this story. I notice that they refer to the nurse as Russian in the caption. I can't remember ever seeing a WWII story with a sympathetic Russian main character before. Are there further references to her nationality in the story, or is it a fairly generic war story? Any chance we could see another page or two?

It is listed as an 8, but I don't know if I completely agree. I have a copy that I bought back in 1982 from Mile High Comics back when they had a store at 308 S. Broadway Street in Denver, CO. Gerber put out a request for people to send him pictures of books he hadn't located for the photo journal so I sent him my copies picture (never made it in the guide). Because it wasn't listed in the journal, I have made apoint to watch this book. The copy above is the 4th one I have seen.

Gatherings from today's Sacramento Convention:

Matt Baker and Jack Kamen (?? There's a Rulah story) goodness:

I've been wanting to read some Black Cat for a while. This one was from HouseofComics (who I'm always happy to buy from) and the price was reasonable:

Another HouseofComics purchase. Late run Fight Comics with nice deep colors:

(Those late run FH books make me sad because you can see how downhill the company has slid. They pale in comparison to what the company was doing just a few years earlier.)

And these two aren't GA, but I'm going to show them off anyway:

At the rate I'm buying Sugar and Spikes, I should have a full run around 2050.
