I have only submitted three books thus far:

Mandrake the Magician 5

Flash Gordon 5

The Phantom 22

Of which, the grades returned where:

Mandrake: 9.0

Flash Gordon: 9.0

The Phantom 9.0

I was actually upset with these grades. I have seen many books receive higher grades with more obvious defects/flaws. I actually removed these books from their original 1967 King Comics 3-Pack to send them in.

I hope to have better success with my next round of submissions.

I just sent in 21 Moderns - all for my collection, NONE for resale purposes.

Finishing off some runs, slabbing some nice individual issues, and a nice

selection of Good Girl/Bad Girl comics (I admit it, I like how the covers look

slabbed!):

Daredevil #226 & 230-233 (when I get these back, I'll have ALL the Miller DDs

slabbed!!)

Origin #3-6 (I slabbed 1&2 last time, thought I'd slab 'em all)

Punisher Limited Series #1

ASM #299 (pulled out several 9.6ish copies out of a DOLLAR BOX at a show

earlier this year)

ASM v. 2 #30 & 36

Incredible Hulk #34 (a 9.8 for sure)

Ultimates #1

Alias #1

Red Sonja v. 3 #1 (I have one of the best slabbed Sonja collections around)

Sojourn #1 (a future classic from CrossGen)

Shi: Umadoshi Tour Book 2002 (signed & sketched by Billy Tucci)

Vampirella (2001) #1

I sent in Avengers #19, X-Men #8 and Daredevil #6. I got the Avengers #19 from Harley Yee at a show. He graded it as a VF/NM and it came back a NM-. On the other hand I bought the X-men #8 and Daredevil #6 from Crazy Ed's comics and he wouldn't tell me what he graded them at. He told me to just make an offer so I said guide. They came back FN'/VF and VF-. My own fault for trusting the guy I suppose.

I decided to send in some moderns this time (as opposed to silver):

Daredevil 131 = Yeah going with the hype

Detective Comics 476 = Book looks absolutly mint so I wanted to see what the grade ends up being according to CGC.

Marvel Team-up 53 = Hulkster battle issue w/Spidey

FF 166 & 167 = Hulk theme again

Marvel Spotlight 28 = Moonknight

Avengers 134 & 135 = Vision books that should recieve high grade. I might keep these.

Next week I am sending more silver.

House of Secrets 92 (4.0)

House of Secrets 92 (6.5)

Swamp Thing 1 (9.4)

Swamp Thing 1 (9.0)

Swamp Thing 1 (9.0)

Amazing Fantasy 15 (1.8)

The Swamp Things were all purchased as they came out new and at the same time. They should have all been graded the same.

Amazing Fantasy should have been a 2.5, I thought.

Until you guys start your own service, this is what will continue to happen.

After the Incredible selection presented and whatever was dispersed into the hobby from the last Heritage Auctions, and noting the effects on Ebay, I would imagine that the only books that would do well at this point, submitted for grading with resale in mind and then offered in the marketplace are bronze and Modern books as these were NOT represented in those Auctions, thereby not diluting the dollar supply of the investing/collecting public for that era of books.

i am seriously thinking of starting my own grading company, maybe i should hire meth to check for colour touch, trimming, & restoration. tongue.gif but i already have someone in mind who's an expert in the field. all joking aside, im seriously looking into this idea. CGC has a monopoly on the market, and we all know a monopoly is not good for consumers.

....you are absolutley right there, all cgc's shortcomings stem from them having no-one to answer to but themselves........... frown.gif

....the hobby desperately needs another grading company, are you actually serious about setting one up?

like i said, all joking aside, i am seriously looking into this. i even asked CGC if they thought about franchising out to the west coast so i can get a job with them, but they said they're not moving out west. so it's their lost, if they were out here, it would cut down on turnaround times. but they must have a method to their madness. i have ideas, i just need investors to back them up, it's not hard to grade, it's just hard to detect for restoration.....but like i said, i already have a real professional in the market in mind.
