My first OA piece & Do they still do this in Comic Art?

13 posts in this topic

I bought this a while back. This was my first piece of OA: http://www.spiderwebart.com/productsd.asp?snob=100605. I like the effect of word bubbles and sound effects being glued to the page.

Do today's comic artists still glue word bubbles and sound effects to the inked art? OR Is recent OA scanned to computer with word bubbles and effects added digitally? Does this mean recent OA consists of inked art with no bubbles/effects? Thanks!

Nice page! Yes you're correct, the lettering is all done digitally on the computer now. I too like the word ballons on the page and is the only reason I don't collect modern artwork.

some Modern artwork has word ballons on page

My Page from the kingdom has word ballons

I think it all depends on the series and artists

The Kingdom isn't quite 'recent' as it's 8 years old (1999). I don't think anything now has lettering on the page and if there is it's a rare bird indeed.

I'd be very interested in knowing of any books that still letter on the page today if anyone knows any?

We need to set a definition of what we consider modern then

Nobody but you has used the word modern. confused-smiley-013.gif

The original poster asked if todays artists used word balloons fixed to the page. The answer to that question is almost 100% no.

and the Person who replied Said ""the only reason I don't collect modern artwork.""

Thats why I ask what is Modern.

Past 5 years, 2 years?

Sorry for the confusion. My mention of 'modern' was in context to the original poster's comment of "today's comic artists" and "recent OA". To me that doesn't constitute as 8 year old art. wink.gif

Like I said, I don't know of any comics that are currently lettered directly on the page and if there are, it's a rarity.

That's an amazing sound effect! ...I've never seen the sound effects so closely follow the characters actions. Most effects I see are usually from a character breaking objects/buildings....but never the character themselves. Good job! smile.gif
