BB-Gun
I don't know if I have shown these before. J.R. Williams had a good eye for drawing characters and horses. He was perfect for drawing cartoons of the old west or the not so old. I am told that there is a museum in the southwest that specializes in his art. I don't think this book is in the platinum age list. I always thought that his art influenced early work by Carl Barks. A lot of his cartoons were reprinted in The Funnies. bb Edited September 20, 2008 by BB-Gun
BB-Gun
Out Our Way was so popular that it was reprinted for years. This book was printed in 1946.
BB-Gun
I scanned a science fiction book dust jacket by Blaisdell a few weeks ago and was suprised to see he was the same person who did special effects for horror movies. In one of my old magazine boxes I found a set of Fantastic Monster magazines that were edited by Haydock, Harmon, Blaisdell, Byrd and Burns. In most of the issues there were great articles on comic related material, such as, Frankenstein comics, Spy Smasher, Capt. Marvel, Blackhawk and The Shadow. There was also a short article on Blaisdell by Harmon. bb

BB-Gun
BZ, I think you asked a question about Bobby Thatcher when I first posted the cover (or maybe not but things seemed to tie together recently). I was reading an article about George Storm by Ron Goulart in an old issue of Nemo. He created Bobby Thatcher which was one of the earliest adventure strips. He also created the Hangman for MLJ. Not to mention doing the first Bugs Bunny strip for Dell. His style was more cartoonish on the Hangman and he didn't stick with the strip for very long but it had a bizarre look which made the villians seem more crazy. He also killed off Jack Cole's Comet who wasn't the same without Cole. bb A sibilant, mocking laugh pierces the thick drapes of gloom...(sounds like the Shadow). BB-Gun
..and the shield looked pretty good in Pep 17 as well, although not by Storm. bb Interior scans by me. Pep 17 scans that I have from Goldenagecomics.UK are in black and white except for the cover.
BB-Gun
BZ, Where are you? Did a bug get you or just your computer? Does anyone have other sets of Hingees. I like the Blondie set but I would like to see the Di_k Tracy and Terrry and the Pirates Sets. Mickey Mouse and Popeye would be nice to see also. bb They are Fun! And there is Action! And Thrills? It's another animated paper toy. Don't call it a "paper doll" please!

THIS is a paper doll and a doll on paper (sorry for the sub-par scan) I like the Dragon Lady pinups but I prefer to see them in color. Baker is still the best. BB-Gun
I posted a sci fi ark cover a while back and someone asked if there were more with that theme. I recently saw a couple posted at different sites. The first is from Goldenagecomics.uk The second is either ebay or the silver age section of these boards. and last but not least from the pulp box in my office... BB-Gun
Somebody downloaded all of the Wolverton scans from my flickr account cause he really liked them I guess. He had a nice connection to the Crumb sites on youtube. Thanks Zootdroop for reminding me about all of those great underground comics. bb I think this copy was from East Lansing by way of Ohio. It was well read by many roommates at the time and I am amazed that it survived from 1970.
BB-Gun
I spend a lot of time sorting through and repacking my collection these days. I wish I could say that I spend my evenings dreaming about her but at least I can still sleep at night. I miss the lab. and discussing research with my associates. The company Christmas party was fun. Things changed a lot when new people arrived. I guess I can just stay home and play with the cats for a while. bb
