But maybe it wasn't as obvious as I thought. hm

For the past few months all of the comics I had posted in the Pop Quizzes were #1's which I'd been listing in alphabetical order.

I figured that would help make identifying the comics a tad easier. (shrug)

One of my favorite cover artists of the Golden Age is Joe Doolin. He created more than 100 classic covers for Fiction House, but still he remains an unknown name to most comic collectors.

He isn't singled out in Overstreet's listings and I don't think he's ever been included in any best artist's lists voted on by comic fans.

That's :screwy: in my opinion.

Here is a chronological photo listing of his covers:

Joe Doolin Covers

Before he started work in the comic field, Doolin was illustrating stories and painting covers for pulp magazines.

I haven't found much info about him online. If anyone can point me to any source that has biographical or career details, I'd sure appreciate it.

This Weird Tales cover is the earliest work of his that I've found thus far.

I coild happily post Doolin covers all day - partly because I have so many but mainly because they are so great! Here though are a few pages from an interior - it may be from #17 but my current copy is graded so I cant doublecheck. For me his work is the very essence of Planet Comics, and he is head and shoulders above everyone else!
