AMERICAN BORN CHINESE Art Day

4 posts in this topic

Had the opportunity to hook up with Gene Yang last week. I was lucky enough to get some art from his graphic novel, AMERICAN BORN CHINESE. Although most comics fans have probably never heard of this work before, it was perhaps the most highly acclaimed graphic novel to be released last year. First graphic novel to be nominated for a National Book Award (it placed second). First graphic novel to win the American Library Association Award. It is currently a Reuben Award nominee in the comic book category. Have people in your life who just don't get comics? ABC is the gateway (check out the reviews on Amazon where it was also the Amazon Editors’ #1 graphic novel of the year). A great read…it’s not specifically a book for/about Asian-Americans, it’s for anyone who’s ever felt like an outsider. I thoroughly recommend it.

If it is as good as Fantagraphics's Joe Sacco's Palestine graphic novel, I will buy ABC.

I haven't read the Sacco work, so I can't compare, sorry! I do, however, read a ton of comics, spanning all genres. This one's right up there amongst the best. I hope the awards and great reviews speak from themselves.Give it a chance...it's only about $12 from Amazon.
