Harry's Hairy Moustache?

I saw this image from an auction for Amazing Spider-man #74, where Harry Osborne seems to have grown himself a nice Fu Manchu 'stache.

 

I just have to know the story behind this one.....

..not to mention Harry's obviously stolen the "White Tiger's" amulet?

Harry grew the moustache while he was dating Mary Jane and kept it for several issues in the ASM #74-80 range. As to its inspiration, here is some dialog from a few issues:

 

ASM #74

Pete bumps into Harry and sees him with his 'new look'

 

Pete: "Hi Harry"

 

Harry: "Hi Harry? Is that all you can say to a pall who's sporting his new Fu Manchu face fuzz? I've been in hidding for weeks just to...Hey!

 

Pete: "Sorry Harr! Can't talk anymore"

 

ASM #76

Pete sees Harry at home.

 

Pete: "Hi Harr! Still sporting your new Fu Manchu, Huh?

 

Harr: "You know it son. It may not turn you on...but it drives Mary Jane maaad!"

 

 

The 60's/ 70's eh? Those were the days.

Thanks! I own ASM 74 and checked it out, but that quote from ASM 76 certainly clears things up.
