Working for Comics
Who needs a paycheck?
Twice in my life I worked in a comic book shop. I was paid an hourly wage (quite decently I might add) and pretty much spent it all at the comic book shop I worked at. It was at these times I tried new books (writers, artists, and assorted back issues). I don?t have that luxury anymore. I did this when I was younger and it was only a part time job, but those four to six hours a week were a blessing. Not only did I work in a comic book shop, I got paid for it (did I mention they discounted my comic books as well.)
I work overnights in a diner and it is dreadfully slow, so when they throw an extra shift my way I take it. I am one of a few people who are allowed to work the extra shifts. I believe this is true only because I tell them yes all the time. The extra shifts means more hours which equals more tables which turns into more tips?.. I hope.) Anything I make over my weakly (spelled wrong on purpose) allocation is still deposited into my account.
I have now begun to budget my CGC comics in. At first I only budgeted for new comic books but with my love (addiction?) growing for graded books I need to adapt. Not only do I need to add for auctions but I also have to expand my budget to get my books graded as well. I started with New Mutants issues #1-10 and plan on sending in the rest of the run, but what?s next. I have a great run of Daredevil?s I think will be graded high, I even have a good run of X-men?s that are guaranteed to get a 9.6 at least or should I just set out to buy raw books and see if I can luck out a time or two (multiply the second number by a few hundred please?. I fear I will be collecting for a long time to come.)
Thanks for reading
