Why do we do anything we do?

As I sit here reading my new release purchases this week from my LCS I actually, for the first time, noticed the cover price. I know that sounds crazy, however I usually buy the same number of books each month and the total dollar amount varies slightly. I will pick up a new series here and there to try it out and add it or not to my monthly total. At 3.99 an issue it seems expensive compared to what you can buy for that price.

In no way am I complaining about the price, I understand the cost of everything is going up. That includes the cost of printing a comic - ink, paper, and definitely artist pay (which is never enough). Going forward my collecting habits will change a little. Ghost Rider will still be my main focus as I have alot of holes in my collection. Trying to get every issue graded and a reader copy so I can go back and remember the past every once in awhile. I will also embark on a very fun and unique collecting trip.

I will try to collect the entire catalogue of the Star Comics Imprint of Marvel. I know that sounds funny and will probably only be worth what it means to me. These titles and characters were a part of my youth and hold dear memories of my past. Whether it was picking up comics with my dad (who has passed) or watching some of these shows on TV, this will forever be a link to times with my dad. Hopefully I can pass on memories with my children that will last them into the future.

By my unofficial records there is 41 series and a total of 425 different comics. Not to difficult compared to todays 12-13 variants of a single issue (Walking Dead 100) or large prices for the 1/25,50,100,200 variations. It will take awhile to complete, relatively inexpensive for most issues, and priceless for the time I will spend with the little ones reading to them.

So back to the teaser. Why do we do it? ..... For the fun and joy of it ... never for the money.
