  1. That would be mine. What do you want to know? Sorry just returned from France. How long have you had it and where did you buy it Bought it around 2002 and it was part of a high grade Vampirella collection that i sold a few years ago. I kept that issue as it was my favorite and was thrilled it got a 9.9. Its a bit of a wrench to let it go mainly because after submitting thousands of omics/magazines mainly from the 65-75 era its the only 9.9 i have ever received, . ive received loads of 9.8's but never a 9.9 . However i have other priorities now so it needs to be sold and hopefully it goes to a collector. So youve had it for 14 years and you didnt think to send it in earlier. I thought it might have been a recent purchase. Just out of curiosity why are you selling it if its your only 9.9 out of thousands submitted. If i owned it there is no way i would be selling it. Well i had it down as a 9.8 with a shot at a 9.9 but then again ive probably had 50 books with the same scenario so i was always going to send it in but had just given up hope of getting a 9.9. Im selling it only because we are expecting another child and that always has to take priority otherwise no i would not be selling it although the price does seem a bit low at the moment so im wondering if i did the right thing.

  4. I have not bought a war book in about 5 years the last of which was a GD copy of OAAW #83 which has somewhat cooled off lately. I am however currently winning a OAAW book in a current auction which is one of my favourite covers of the run. Either its going under the radar and im going to win it for a great price or all the snipers are just sitting there waiting for the right moment. We'll see.
  5. Does anybody know what dealers set up at London's Comic Con at the Excel. Trying to figure out if its worth going.
  6. It might have been, i cant remember.
  7. Can any of you war enthusiasts tell me what is the significance of OFF #51. I remember a small article written in CBM years ago saying how undervalued it was but cant seem to find it. Does anyone have a copy or even know.
  8. That book belongs to me but im not sure if you would class me as a boardie as i dont post that often . It took me years to find and when i did i managed to beat some other collectors who were looking for it by a matter of days. I dont recall the top staple being loose probably just mis-aligned but im not 100% sure. Anyway its a bummer to let go after many years of trying to find it but ive seen 1 or 2 other things in this auction that im interested in so needs must. Good luck to all those who are bidding you wont be disappointed and there cant be too many Batman #227's graded 9.6 still in the old label. (thumbs u
  9. I sent in 4 cracked out slabs (all 9.8's) for a Romita signing. None came back 9.8. This is no fault of the facilitator or any rough handling of the books. That is one hell of a risk to take. I persuaded one collector who had a Bats #227 graded as a 9.6 to leave it as it is, even though he wanted to crack it out and have Adams sign it, just in case it came back a lower grade and that was a 9.6. To de-slab a 9.8 in order for Romita to sign it is far too risky. I take it from your post that that didnt even all come back a 9.6 so you have to ask yourself whats better a 9.8 or a lower graded copy signed by the artist. I dont know, i suppose you will get different answers from different collectors
  10. I totally agree. On the relevant page they need to update the times and put in a little 'Last Updated' sign to everyone knows exactly what the turnaround times are. If they did this im sure they wouldnt be getting as many phone calls from collectors asking for their book status. The website says:- Service Current Turnaround† Est. Turnaround Max. Value*** Retail Price Economy 59 business days 40 business days $300 / ea. $35 per book Today is the 79th business day and the books still havent been graded. I know a lot of you will say why dont you use Fasttrack but why should i. They offer a service for Standard Economy so im using it. I just wish they would update the website so i know how much longer i have to wait.
  11. No im afraid i didnt but little tell tale signs like the top and bottom left hand corners tell me its mine. This is what i find fustrating about CGC sometimes. I sent this away thinking it would come back a 9.4 but it received a 9.2. Someone wins it and does a resubmit(it doesnt look like its been pressed) and it comes back 9.4 and is going to make a few thousand dollars more. Anyway nothing i can do about it now just feel a bit aggrieved.
  12. Can any board members tell me if they won the OAAW #151 CGC9.2 on Comiclink a few months ago and more importantly tell me if its the same copy that is now sitting in a 9.4 holder on Comiclink in the for sale section.
  13. Ive always wondered this as well. Ive misplaced my copy but is GIC #45 listed as significant, highly significant or fairly significant in Pedrin's book? He lists it as Highly Significant. According to Pedrin, in the story "Fireworks Hill," one of the characters stands there "...like a rock." In the face of enemy fire, I'm guessing? I haven't read the issue. I think we need the War Report guys to chime in here. (They don't mention the issue in the latest OSPG.) Highly Significant really? When i wrote my post i was about 90% sure it was just fairly significant. This book is then definitely a must have for those collecting all the Sgt.Rock prototypes but how many collectors are actually even aware of this. With the way the current auction stands i think someone is going to get the 'deal of the year' so far. Well, his input may or may not transfer into how the "market" reacts to certain books. This may be an excellent example. I'll say this. Have OS note GIC 45 as a Rock prototype issue and the market will react. GIC 45 came up peripherally during war report discussions on the significant Rock issues. This was at the same time that we were finalizing all of our suggestions for what became the new way Overstreet is listing and describing those books. The fact that there were no changes to that issue should suggest how much weight it carried during the discussions. I'm not dismissing it. Just saying we were all aware of it and didn't think it that significant then. Are there any other books noted by Chris Pedrin as Sgt.Rock prototypes that do not appear in Overstreet as such? .

  16. I hope i am not breaking any rules here but i thought i would give all the war fans a 'heads up' at least. Ive listed the last of my war books at Comiclink and all have some sort of significance for one reason or another. The comics are :- All-American Men of War #28 CGC5.5 1st Sgt.Rock Prototype All-American Men of War #95 CGC9.2 Bethlehem 2nd Highest Graded GI Combat 45 CGC5.5 I believe this book is listed as 'significant' in Chris Pedrin's Big Five in the development of Sgt.Rock. GI Combat #87 CGC3.5 1st app Haunted Tank Our Army At War #151 CGC9.2 1st app Enemy Ace Highest Graded For the record there are no 9.4 copies which someone asked for earlier. This is the best copy i have ever come across. I think the slight wear in the top left hand corner is what stops it from being a 9.4. Other than that its a fantastic copy and im sad to let it go.
  17. What did it go for? What grade? It was in GD+ 2.5 and sold for $376.00.
  18. Anybody else think the OAAW #83 in the recent pedigree auction sold for a surprising amount considering how low grade it was
  19. Great covers and in such wonderful condition. I never get tired looking at Strange Adventures covers absolute classics so keep them coming.
  20. Weird can you shed some more light on what you just said as im not sure i understand it. What for example is auction magic archive as ive never heard of it. Also my memory is poor as i actually thought the Oakland copy went for about $300. Is there anybody else who thought that the winning bidder paid too much at the time and more importantly what do you War collectors think that book is worth today.
  21. Hi Big, Yes the book was CGC graded and it was either a 9.2 or a 9.4 and definitely an Oakland. I remember there were other things going on in other auctions so this one was slipping under the radar and with 30 minutes to go it was under $100 with yours truely being the highest bidder. Then with a minute to go all sorts of bids came in but it still ended up if i recall correctly going very cheaply. Also if my memory serves me correct it WAS Johnnock who mentioned in a thread that he lost out to the high bidder who hadnt won anything in 2 years and i thought it was either yourself or thirdgreenham who told him that you thought the final price was going to be higher than what it eventually sold for, I would send Johnnock a PM but due to work i rarely get to go on the boards so any reply would go unread for a while but hopefully he will see the thread and chime in.
  22. Sorry to slightly derail this thread but does anybody remember what the Oakland copy of SSWS #138 sold for. I remember it was around December 2006 time as i placed a bid on it myself. It was also mentioned in another thread at the time because a board member here(1 of the main war guys) tried to snipe it but was outbid. If anybody has a link to that discuassion id be pleased to see it because for the life of me i just cant find it. Thanks.
  23. Hey Cosmic, thanks for the welcome but im afriad you are the 2nd person to welcome me as the administrator was the first: lol
  24. Im a DC collector and i use to have tons of double covers but sold them all about 10 years ago. However 1 title that i cannot recall having a double cover of is HOM. Maybe its just me but does/did anyone here have any double covers from this title.
