  1. Those two Blue Beetles are still on my want list. Very nice!
  2. I thought I read somewhere that some of the painted covers were not by Kelly. Of course, he doesn't need any extra credit. His body of work is substantial. How long did he work for Disney? I heard that he worked on Dumbo, Fantasia and Pinnochio? Any Duck cartoon credits?
  3. My marital bliss hinges on this not becoming the state of the house and, rightly so! So, no, I am lucky enough to have enough storage around the house so as not to have to part with books. I would sell before creating tension in the relationship with my wife. If you need to create some room, ... you know my PM. Hours I could spend looking at your collection, sir! You're welcome to stop by Scrooge. Perhaps Bill can have another Pons Con and you can meet JB and Red Fury as well.
  4. If I remember correctly, the Abner illustrations in this are ghosted by Frazetta. Frazetta did ghost Lil Abner but not sure which issues. Anyone have the reprint series? I think it identifies the Frazetta years. Did they cover the wedding? Did he do the Life cover? bb A quick search indicates that Frazetta ghosted from 1954 to 1961. The Life cover and wedding dated 1952.
  5. I purchased a Roly-Poly 12 issue expecting to find MLJ reprints but found Matt Baker art instead. I think this is an Inspector Dayton reprint from Atomic Comics #2. Anyone know?
  6. I really like those large Life magazines with comic books characters on the cover. I have loaded up a few. They are hard to take care of but I guess we won't see this type of mag at the newsstand again.
  7. I am very envious of people's nice comic rooms. I find myself packed into a room with 10,000 comics and barely enough room to walk. Do others have this problem?
  8. I purchased this in sixties but didn't get interested in Conan until Roy Thomas started the Conan series for Marvel.
  9. A lot of those classic stories were reprinted in the Murder Mystery Monthly series.
  10. That is a beautiful book. I like that one and would also buy it if it had only one cover.
  11. These new acquisitions aren't in great condition but they are all pretty nice to see in a bunch. I am particularly fond of the Four Color which matches the coloring book that I purchased ten or so years ago. I liked that cartoon too.
  12. The rest of the Green Lantern story from All Star 30.
  13. I try to buy platinum age at the flea market when I find them. I have some Mutt and Jeff, Foxy Grandpa, Bringing Up Father and Dana Gibson books which I like. Last time I saw some Dana Gibson books, I lost them to someone's wife who wouldn't let me buy them until her husband saw them.
  14. Thanks for posting BZ. Golden age Hawkman by Kubert is fun to see. His later work on Hawkman had less rounded corners and more sharp lines. I still enjoy both but like the softer look.
  15. Some guy named Barks used to draw cartoons for the Calgary Eye-Opener.
  16. I am kind of partial to the mad scientists like the Avenger who appeared in More Fun 74. However, the Spectre can be quite convincing when showing a mere mortal the error of his ways. I think this guy may have found a red suit and returned in an ME publication. He also may have been inspired by Luthor or the guy that Dr. Fate was debating with on the cover of More Fun 68. (photoshopped slightly, although I think the colors are more correct)
  17. I picked up an early Centaur with a story by Dan Gormley and noticed he also did the Howdy Doodey drawings I had recently purchased. Then I found his name associated with the Four Color 178 cover. Usually I can recognize his art on the New Funnies covers but I am sure he did a lot more work for Dell. Anyone have more information about him?
  18. I love that splash. Villain reminds me of Mysterio in Spiderman.
  19. Wow! Great books! Repeat after me... "Platinum Age books have no value. Nobody should collect them. Nobody wants them..." You are right that the humor in some books is dated. But some have timeless humor that still provides great reading today. Those are great books. I have a few but they are tough to find in nice condition.
  20. and those are all by Segar aren't they. I have seen a few of those but unfortunately didn't buy them. The more Popeye I read, the more Segar art I want to see.
  21. And that is a very nice Seven Seas cover by Baker.
