By the way, I don't think you can have a Fruitman "collection" since there's only one issue. And, for the record, it's Fruitman Special.

That Flintstone Christmas issue is pretty sweet, but I hadn't seen the Annie Treasury issue yet. Man, what's with that hairdo? :shrug: ::

I stopped my run at issue 600. I still have everything, but just lost the enjoyment. For my run to be complete, it had to include the price variants, which took me a few years to track down.

Well, I'll tell you. Keeping up with the thrice-monthly schedule on ASM when my LCS closed down isn't exactly a monthly thrill.

But your collecting the variants too to have a true complete run is pretty hard core. :hail:

I was looking for a Bronze Spidey club, found this thread, and thought it was time for a to revive some interest. I'll try to get a few of my books scanned in and posted soon. I'm complete in ASM, mostly raw, except for #18, 21, and 100 (and a few silly annuals, but I can't stand annuals and only buy them because I am an OCD completist).

Not quite, I'm missing those 3 I mentioned and am about to sell a few more of my lower graded books (#5, 11, 12 and maybe a few more) that I plan on upgrading anyway because I need to raise some cash. But I can say that at one time or another I have owned every ASM book from #1-441 and still own 99.5% of them. I just sold my low graded #18 & 21, and I had a low grade #100 that I sold a while back. I'm also complete on the original runs of Web, Spectacular, and adjectiveless (McFarlane), and damn close on Team-Up.

I'm very close on my run. Five more to go: #3-4; 8-9; and 14. Unless something strange happens, I'll be looking for very low grade copies of these (FR to GD range). Once I get these, I will seriously celebrate () because I had a complete set as a 25-year-old back in 1992 (#1-360 or so) but broke them up.

After celebrating, I guess it is on to the Annuals though I too don't get too excited about them. I hope my OCD doesn't drag me into complete runs of those other titles you've mentioned, but I know myself well enough to say anything's possible. :: Although out of all of those, the Marvel Team-Up title would probably be first because I sure do remember those growing up.

anyone seen or heard of comicseekers? sent several messages. He said he would take a book I had in my sales thread and never followed thru on paying. He said a few weeks ago when the sales thread was over he was having some paypal stuff "transfered" and he would pay. Now notheing no word for a few weeks. ? Can someone let me know if they have dealt with him? And can he be put on the probation list.

 

If I remember right he was on the probation list a while back. Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but I believe there was some sort of major difficulty with bulk lot deals he was selling. To the best of my knowledge, he eventually made good and was removed from the list. Never dealt with him personally (that I remember at any rate), so not much to add except for the above. As for placing him on the list, my understanding is that it is your descretion if the was 30 days or more ago.

I've had a few transactions (both buying and selling) with comicseekers/Sergio and they've all gone well.

Along the way, though, I discovered he's been on the probation list more than once. Going from memory and my sense of things, there's an ebb and flow to comicseekers. He'll buy and sell, and things are kosher for a while--but then problems/issues emerge. Some other folks might chime in with some chapter and verse citations, but thought a general heads up would be beneficial to the boards. It wouldn't shock me if comicseekers comes through and pays what he owes, but over the long haul, there seems to be a consistency issue.

Also would like to extend a big thanks to drbanner for setting me up with the sweetest BA book I now own--a fetching ASM #129.

And to Pitboss who sent a slab to me in a Priority Mail box that, in transit, got absolutely punctured. I was a bit worried as this was a sweet Bats #227 SS...but the Pitboss packed the slab INSIDE of the box in such a way to where it remained unscathed. :hail:

My first MINT grade ever from CGC, and I am glad it was this book as it just looked like it was dropped from comic heaven when I bought it.

I can't find the Maybruck interviews on Comiczone anymore. But I did listen to Vincent's interview with Chuck about the Church Collection yesterday. Interesting stuff, and Chuck seems very likable.

All four parts of the interview are still in the Comic Zone archives (I listened to Part IV last night), but like I mentioned, it's tough to unearth since Maybruck's name is strangely not listed. I think I put keywords into their search engine and somehow pulled them up.

These interviews on Comic Zone Radio (via the Metropolis website) are absolutely astounding. Done just over 2 years ago, they are required listening.

It took me repeated visits to the Metropolis website (metropoliscomics.com) to listen to all 4 of 'em (search engine blues--and I don't think it's my incompetence )...but it was well worth it...

Why?

1) Morality tale to the nth degree!

2) Vincent Zurzolo lets his guard down and we, the listeners, eventually realize that Brad Savage ain't gonna make Vincent's best friend category.

3) Jay Maybruck, former dealer extraordinaire, is pretty contrite (and odd and intelligent and humorous)...but occasionally articulates his disdain toward a character or two in his narrative...Todd McFarlane and Ernie Gerber, take a bow. ::

4) Maybruck's comment on his reprimand letter as a junior high teacher, re: asking the gals in the classroom who gets "horny" was so wild that his explanation/defense of the context, i.e, the womens' lib movement just didn't cut it. This reprimand letter was a part of the Sparkle City Comics portfolio (a limitied version) that was then (in 2008) being auctioned off on eBay. He rightfully let listeners know that this letter didn't add any "value" to the said product, just that he'd include it for what sounded like bemusement purposes.

5) Maybruck's calling down of Bob Dylan lyrics to express what he felt was the comic dealers' lot--that they (essentially) are liars and thieves, quoting Dylan's 1966 composition, "Absolutely Sweet Marie"--"to live outside of the law you must be honest"...and later quoting Dylan's 2006 composition "Thunder on the Mountain" via the lyric "I've already confessed, no need to confess again"--to articulate his view on what should happen after this rather extraordinary mea culpa (his sins in the comic book industry).

6) Learn about Metropolis founder Stephen Fishler, who Maybruck has a high opinion of--Maybruck knew Fishler since he was a 15-16 year old kid.

7) Hear one of the segments (:think: I think Part II) where Maybruck takes phone calls from Mark Zaid (esquirecomics), Michael Carbonaro (neatstuffcollectibles), and John Chruscinski (Tropic Comics). Zaid is pretty serious and asks a number of ashcan-related questions; Carbonaro is so ecstatic and his laughter so embedded in my psyche that I'm still recovering, and Chruscinski simply says he has fond memories of Maybruck and they're all good.

8) Conclude that the interviewer--and co-partner in the Metroplis biz--Vinny Zurzolo--has a hankering for Led Zeppelin as seemingly every commercial break meant that the listener would have to endure an excerpt from their rather mediocre song of "Dancing Days".

These 4 interviews, though, comprising approximately 5 hours, are epic and absolute requisite listening for any collector, dealer, and/or historian of the funny book landscape. Thank you, Vincent.

Any current owners of ASM #151 in CGC 9.6 who want to publicly share? When you got your copy, how much it was, and where you got it from? If you don't want to go public and think such a request rude, then you can PM me. Or, if you simply want to say you're a proud owner of a 9.6, feel free to exercise free speech. There's only 19 of 'em on the census (out of 193 submitted).

 

My story, semi-tinged with regret, is forthcoming.

 

And if anyone definitely knows who is the fortunate owner of the single 9.8 on the census, do tell. Common sense tells me it's Mr. Brulato, but then again, maybe someone beat him to the punch. I see GPA shows that it sold for 1,000 bucks back in September 2006. If that copy ever goes up for sale, or if another one emerges and is auctioned off, I'm thinking it's going to be a battle in the trenches and a predictably insane amount of money realized.

The bottom recently dropped out of this book in 9.6 (from the 500 dollar range to now 200 dollar range) which, I guess, mirrors the BA general dipping across the board...but there's some interesting developments on ASM #151 in 9.8. For the longest time, this book had only one 9.8. I just checked the census and now there's 3. What's more is I just checked GPA and one of those 9.8 bad boys just sold for 1,900 in May. :whatthe:

Anyhoo, my obsession with #151 continues. Anyone else want to chime in on this particular issue in the HG market?
