  1. Because mycomicshop lists almost half a million items on eBay?
  2. It's a rare book because basically up until last year nobody knew this book even existed - I'm a fairly hardcore Sandman collector and even I thought it was a myth (or misprint in the OSPG). The fact that there's now 12 copies in the census and multiple raw copies are popping up on eBay fairly regularly shows that, as people are becoming aware of the existence of this book, they're managing to find it in the wild. Heck, I snagged my own raw copy out of a $5 box earlier this year - simply because I'm now actively looking for this book. Right now this book is the rarest Sandman variant out there (based on census numbers), but it would be foolish to think that's going to be the case in the future. That honor will always end up going to the #8 Berger editorial variant simply because it has a far smaller print run than this book. Good luck with the sale of your copy
  3. When microchamber paper is "full" (eg. unable to absorb any more off-gassing from the comic book), it simply becomes inert - it will never harm the actual comic book.
  4. The drawers are 1/2" baltic birch plywood. I'd venture an educated guess and say the actual cabinet is made of MDF.
  5. CGC checked directly with the IDW event organizers - it was a hard no on having books signed & slabbed. So, no, there won't be any CGC books from this signing.
  6. Totally agree with that - the more information the better
  7. Terms of service: https://www.cgccomics.com/news/viewarticle.aspx?IDArticle=5493& Company has the right in its sole discretion to reject any items submitted for Services in cases where the submitted items do not comply with Company’s then-current standards and procedures set forth on Company’s website. Because Company must still receive, track and examine each rejected item, fees for Services shall not be refunded for such rejected items.
  8. You're referring to this, right? "We talked to the cgc rep there in charge and were told ultimately it's up to the grader." That's a misreading of what the CGC rep said - it's not up to the individual grader to decide which books can & cannot be slabbed (which would imply that one grader might grade & slab something another grader wouldn't). The decision is made by CGC's head modern finalizer, Shawn Caffrey, and then enforced by the entire grading team.
  9. The two different people you mention are both me ... I posted in the beginning of this thread:
  10. I asked CGC directly what their policy was on a graphic covers like this - they told me exactly what I posted above. How is that bad messaging?
  11. All the books that get hot due to TV shows follow the exact same formula - they reach peak value before the show airs, drop at soon as the show is on the air, and either fall back to their previous levels or stay at a slightly-higher "new normal" value depending on how long the show remains on air & whether the show is any good. Powers was a terrible show & got cancelled after 2 seasons, so, yeah, adampasz is 100% right in claiming zero upside on this book.
  12. I see a huge difference between the two covers - both in intent & in execution. Which isn't meant as me passing judgement on either of them - I have zero problems with nudity, sex or NSFW art in general - but rather to point out that if you look at these covers with CGC's previously-mentioned general guidelines in mind (eg. no penetration, no hardcore pornography) it's fairly obvious why only one of these two books is sitting in a CGC slab. You may not agree with this decision, but to present it as illogical is disingenuous. Ultimately, it's always been up to CGC's discretion whether they will slab a book or not - there's nowhere in their terms of service that says otherwise.
  13. Really? You see no difference between the SW #225 and the Sex Criminals cover? CGC has never had a problem slabbing books with nudity - they draw the line at straight-up pornography.
  14. Yay, another creator who feels the need to tell me what I can and cannot do with my books.
  15. Using the USPS registered mail option means you get full, declared insurance on the package - eg. if the insurance value on the CGC form is $2k, that's what it's going to be insured for during shipping. It's a very expensive shipping option for a low number of books seeing that the shipping cost includes the USPS registered mail fee. Using CGC's UPS or Fedex shipping option limits the insurance coverage during shipping to $100 - no matter what value you have on the CGC form. If you're shipping expensive books using the UPS/Fedex option (either through your own account or CGC's), you want to make sure you have 3rd party insurance in place to cover the value of the books in case something happens - I know a lot of people on the boards who have separate collectibles insurance policies (mine is through collectinsure.com, for instance) or are covered by their existing homeowners policy.
  16. I'm assuming you mean you want CGC to witness them signing a comic book, right? Simply come to one of the two CGC booths (there'll be one on the main floor & one in artist alley), and tell the people at the booth what you're trying to do - they'll then tell you exactly how they're going to handle it. For a modern, signed book CGC charges $30 for grading.
  17. As telerites said, submitting 25 books means you minimize the invoice & shipping fee pr. book the most. I also second the whole "set up your own UPS/Fedex account for shipping" - CGC's Fedex/UPS rates aren't terrible ($13 for the first book, $2 each additional book), but they're still significantly higher than the price you would pay using your own account.
  18. CGC is not doing onsite grading at NYCC.
  19. People get signed & sketched books pressed all the time - as long as the presser knows what he/she is doing, it won't damage the artwork.
  20. CGC will fix label errors for free - including the cost of shipping the book back to them. Simply call customer service and they'll care of it.
