Does unverified signature detract from grade
mschmidt replied to Rick1014's topic in The Signature Room
They might also be hesitant to jump into a market with very limited upside and tons of risk - there's a reason none of the signature authentication services actually guarantee their findings -
It's too tight of a fit even with just a half-back as the backing board - I wouldn't recommend it.

Has this CGC label been around for a while?
mschmidt replied to Domo Arigato's topic in Comics General
Saw a bunch of these at dealer booths at SDCC - looks much better in hand than in a scan. -
10 labels would add $50 to the cost of slabbing 10 books. I like 'em - there's a pretty cool Venom label too that wasn't shown above.

I've tried using mylites, but they just feel too flimsy for me. I still do the Mylites2 + half-back combo for all my cheaper modern books.

Jones wasn't on the official list, but did a signing at the DC booth. CGC wasn't allowed to witness the DC signings, unfortunately.

It's a common misconception that Cherry #11 came with 3-D glasses inserted - it didn't. On the inside front cover, there's a note from Roger May stating that if you need 3-D glasses, you can either ask for a pair at your LCS or send him some cash and he'll send you a pair. The ones he mailed out were the standard 3-D Zone ones - eg. they look like this: But, really, there's no "official" pair of glasses for this book.

CGC Newbie - Question about COA's
mschmidt replied to Cypress City Comics's topic in The Signature Room
CGC doesn't accept COAs as proof for their Signature Series program. There are ways that an artist can submit a book they themselves signed or sketched directly to CGC and have it qualify for the signature series, but as Antyreal mentioned it's all about the chain of custody; once it's broken, the book is no longer eligible for SS.- 3 replies

They've been grading TPB's longer than I've been a member of this board.

How Big of an Issue is SCS?
mschmidt replied to Danny Zampella's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
SCS was an issue with the previous generation of slabs - I've yet to encounter it in the new slabs. I wouldn't worry. -
You can also just send it to CGC directly in the competitor's slab. No matter what you do, it's considered a regular grading (eg. the graders will have no clue this book was previously graded & what the previous grade was).

Easy - it's a counterfeit
-
Yes - you can do 25 books pr. invoice, doesn't matter which tier it is.

Your best bet is to contact a local cabinet maker, explain the situation and have them come out to look at your space. It doesn't really matter that you're going to be using the cabinets for comic book storage - cabinets are cabinets - and the pros are used to dealing with odd & specific storage requirements. Good luck - this is not going to be a cheap project!

Martha Washington Goes To War - Signed Dave Gibbons
mschmidt replied to thomasThomas's topic in Comics General
It's a store variant Chaos City Comics did for this particular issue - they basically printed their own cover and had it stapled around the book. Copies show up on eBay from time to time - they usually sell for about $20 (I think I paid $10 for my copy). Not truly rare, but not that common either. Please don't say stuff like "the comic hasn't been out of the plastic", because whilst it may have been sitting inside this standard comic book bag whilst it's been in your possession, you obviously would have no way of knowing who handled the book prior to that. -
Current CGC slab with well/Wavy covers
mschmidt replied to Dr.Fate'sFullHelmet's topic in Comics General
Those are magazine slabs (and they do have an inner well), but CGC hasn't released a new version of their magazine slabs. I'd still call them, though. -
Any point buying signed comics?
mschmidt replied to GettingBackIntoComics's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
An unverified signature on the cover that's counted as a grade-affecting defect (which it is in a blue label slab) will drop a 9.8 far below a 9.4. Think 8.0/8.5 grade range. For a high grade modern book, it's never worth it to take the grade hit by requesting a blue label. -
Signature Series Submit Ques
mschmidt replied to Spfd18's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
They won't. The books you've seen are very, very old - when CGC did in fact list the convention on the SS label. They stopped doing that almost 10 years ago.
