Hey all,
I've been a fan of Chew since series came out. I was lucky enough to buy the original art to the cover of Chew Issue 6 from Rob at SDCC in July 2009, right after issue 2 came out.
It has been framed on the wall of my comic shop since then so I figured it was about time I scanned it and thought you guys might be interested in seeing it. Here is a link to it in my CAF gallery:

I do not receive the art from Skybound. I receive the art from Charlie directly.
The logistics of the situation is this: Charlie didn't sign his pages when he would ship them from the UK to me here in the US. When people asked if I could get Charlie to sign pages that are ALREADY in my possession I would tell them it is not feasible as the art is in the US and Charlie is in the UK.
The only way would be if the customer wanted to pay for international shipping from me to Charlie and back from Charlie to the customer, which most people aren't going to want to do. Thus once it is in my possession, your best bet is to catch Charlie at a convention if you want his signature.
I DID ask Charlie if he would start signing all of his pages before he shipped them out to me. This started with issue 96. Unfortunately Charlie forgot to sign his issue 98 pages before he shipped them out as he's a busy guy. This is the only issue not signed after 98. All of the Iss 102 pages that will be available later tonight are signed.

Is funny that Mark can get these from Skybound yet refuses to contact Charlie for signatures on the OA.According to Hay, its because CA resides in the UK - but if he's selling for CA, surely he can phone him and go "Charlie - please sign each page".
Apparently its too hard.
Whats your take on this?

I know, I should probably let sleeping dogs lie, but hey I'm a glutton for punishment I suppose.
First off George, thank you for cutting me some slack and defending me. Sorry for the drama this has caused.
In the future I will only post non selling information in this part of the forum, but to be fair, you all have a double standard here, and not a very nice way of educating people when they stray if they aren't in your clique.
So posting for sale info is a no no, but soliciting a board member to sell you something is OK, is that correct Brendan?
If any board member may be interested in helping out a fellow board member with selling near cost + shipping an extra copy you got let me know. I will owe you a favor and can always help in regards to getting stuff signed and Sig Series later on down the road at any midwest comic con I am at.AND posting a for sale link to a sale is ok, as long as it isn't your own link, and it helps the board members get a deal on something, right?

And pimping art sales is totally cool as long as it doesn't belong to Charlie Adlard, whose art some of the board members criticize now that they can't buy it cheap and resell it for 5 times what they paid.

Slow the press down there CGCWorld. I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't re-interpret what I am saying to suit how you feel about Charlie's art.
When I said "marginal covers" I meant they are ones without main characters or zombie-less covers as far as price and how collector's would view them. Obviously covers with Michonne, Rick, Andrea fighting a bunch of zombies is going to be considered a "better" cover and valued more than ones with random bad guys on them with no heads.
You guys also need to realize that while Charlie does come up with his own layout and vision on a lot of covers, some things are directed by Robert. A series of covers that are all tied together aka the 97-99 reprints is something Robert provided input on as well as the something to fear covers. You'll see unpublished pieces from time to time, and sometimes it is because Robert changes direction on what he'd like to see on the cover.
I LOVE Charlie's work, and not just because I'm his art dealer. I've been a fan of the book probably as long as most anyone else here. I know there is a huge group of Tony vs Charlie guys on CGC, and that is your opinion. I'd take Charlie all day, but that's my opinion and style of artists I like.
I think it is pretty crappy to spew venom and take shots at an artist constantly as nothing good comes from it, but hey I guess you'll say I'm biased because I rep Charlie but if Robert thought he was doing a bad job, he would have replaced him years ago... call me crazy.

I just got my batch of books back from CGC from SDCC.
It's not a 10.0 Sketch edition, but I was happy with this... especially with having to carry it gingerly so I didn't get zombie blood or sweat on it.

Oh, and I talked to my Diamond rep about the Spawn 222 situation, and retailers can strip their covers and get refunded on the book, less the 10% (or whatever the return fee is)... which isn't perfect, but its better than getting completely screwed I suppose.

To clarify, someone had already offered me $3000 for the piece prior to the auction starting. I explained that we would be handling it as a blind auction and that I'd use his bid as the minimum. If no one bid on it over $3k then the customer would own it.
It is my experience that a blind auction cuts out the people trying to bit $.01 penny more than the the current high offer. Basically it gives people who really want the piece for themselves to submit their high offer of what they are willing to pay. If you think it is too high, it is always your right not to submit an offer.

That is the great thing about art. It is in the eye of the beholder. I understand you might not think it is worth this amount, but trust me others will.
Here are the last reported cover sales on ebay for marginal covers... not near as nice or important as this one in my opinion. Perhaps you like them more, or wouldn't have paid these prices. Obviously these people made a considerable profit over and above what we sold them for. It is my job to make sure Charlie receive's the lion's share of the money on his original art sales, not resellers

A comment that you made in this thread was brought to my attention, so I wanted to clarify things and set the record straight.
You had stated that: "I'm sure it's hard for Charlie to get a lot of detail drawing on 3x5 note cards. I wish he hadn't switched from 8.5x11, but the deadlines were looming"
To clarify, Charlie Adlard illustrates his Walking Dead interior art on 8 1/2 X 14" Image comic art boards. He has drawn this way since issue 37. Typically his covers are on 11 X 17" standard Image comic art boards, but he has never drawn published comic art on 3 X 5" note cards.
I am Charlie's original art dealer, and have corresponded with him today to verify that his methods have not changed since that last issue of originals that I have in my possession.
I am responding to this thread so that no collectors get incorrect information on how he is doing his originals.
In case anyone is interested in any of Charlie's art, I'd be happy to take care of them. Thanks
