  1. More ducks today. Well, strictly speaking a large and eccentric chicken and some ducks. Another Gyro Gearloose Four Color - in fact the last of four GGFCs for me. There's one more one-shot (which is 'missing four color' #1329, from memory) which I'll try to run to ground as well.

    four_color_1047_zps5icp9zqj.jpg

Here's an 'under the covers' special, in which Barks masterfully turns a sequence into a slapstick silent comedy. Donald has asked Gyro to produce a device to cancel out any noise HD&L make. Strange as it might seem, all does not go smoothly. A small fire breaks out and the device malfunctions. Hilarity ensues:

I love these stories - and bought the Danish deluxe equivalent of The Complete Carl Barks Disney Library - 30 big hardcover books in total for $3k back then - Vol 1 (3 books) can be seen here:

    Carl_Barks_samlade_verk_zpsg6xktgca.jpg

Now I've read these 6000 pages for my 8-year-old son Julius, we had a lot of fun doing that :) But now my 4-year-old son is starting to show some interest in such stories too - and I'm beginning to wonder, do I have to read these 6000 pages again? :ohnoez:

  2. Just got my first published cover from Keron Grant, I think it's an amazing piece - but I got it for a mere fraction of my max bid, so maybe I'm the only one who truly likes Grant ;-) You can see the piece here:

    http://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=1343221

It's ink on Vellum, I've never tried that before, I hope it's not harder than usual to preserve...

    Best,

    Rune

You're not the only one, although I was surprised too that it went as low as it did. I picked up a Ninjak cover he did for Valiant at ECCC this year. It's also an ink on vellum piece. It's currently at the framer, and like you I'm interested to see how the mounting/framing works out and how well it holds up over time. Guess we'll see!

    Ninjak #12 Cover:

    Mike

Big fan of his work. I commissioned him to do Wolverine for me.

Good to read that there are some fans of Grant's great art in here (thumbs u The Ninjak #12 cover is simply amazing :applause: - of course it may be more cerebrally taxing than more simple and straight--forward pieces, but that's just the great thing about Grant's work, at least some of his pieces: they often make you stop and think "what going on here?". Also the art style is special, I'm not sure it looks a lot like something you've seen before (then again, there may be many artists unknown to me).

I did find this Wolverine comission from Grant - it's a fantastic Wolverine piece:

Maybe I should include pictures of my new OA cover and the published version:

    14092016-2.JPG

I'm out of wall space, so this cover is also a test for my new Itoya Profolio 16" x 20" - the OA on Vellum is probably 14" x 19".

  3. Rune - Isn't food harvested from your garden better tasting than anything else?

I tell my wife I need to practice in our garden to prepare for the impeding Zombie apocalypse. She rolls her eyes of course. But, I've got the full support of the WD fans in my family.

I'll let you know when the wife has finished making the pies, hopefully this weekend :wishluck::grin: (The apples are nice though, and maybe the 4-year-old now can remember that apples don't always come from grocery stores ;) )

Great work regarding your Dave Stevens Covers Registry Set :applause: I just got the throne back in Savage Tales vol. 1, did consider buying art instead, but I think it's great fun to build such sets - and then I can tell other people that I do participate in sport lol:facepalm:

  4. My Little Beach Cottage

    IMG_2577_zpscnwewxww.jpg

Thanks for sharing all those wonderful photos - it looks like you've got all you ever wished for! :cloud9: (then again, guess there're always more books and art pieces to dream about  )

Actually my son and I just finished picking up a lot of fruit from our apple and cherry plum trees - of course we only did that to get my wife to bake some pies

  5. Thanks all,

here is another fun one ....

You just can't go wrong with Spidey and FF, it's a great cover :applause: And nice with Marshall Rogers signature too. Fear #16 looks absolutely stunning behind glass!

Great McMahon cover on CAF, guess that one also needs glass  - Btw, I think you once asked Gemma to make a Registry set just for Dredd (Eagle) books - and she actually did :gossip:

  6. And then they're here - the results you've been more eagerly anticipating than the Registry Awards - namely the Registry Point Statistics 2016 :acclaim:;)

    Reg2016_zpsznyweolx.thumb.jpg.27ac1fcb00ae1d856211ee3b8240dc67.jpg

"Points needed to be in [...]" refers to the minimum number of points needed to be part of a category

So really without doing much I'm finally in the top 5 %

Uh-oh, still forgot the top 10 % category - you'll need at least 35,710 points to be part of that group.

Top 1 % still is quite expensive if you have to pay for all the points :censored:;)

Much like previous years, the top 50 % of all Registry members have more than 1,400 points while the remaining 50 % members have less. You'll need about 7,850 points to be in the top 25 %.

Growth the last year has been slowing slightly down to about 8 % more members - compared to 11 % in 2014-2015. In raw numbers, last year the Registry gained 359 more members, in 2014-2015 it gained 464 members.

Guess this'll be all for now, I'll be back in summer 2017, stay tuned!

  7. Wow, I need to get one of these meters! Great posts!

Thanks, Brandon - I really wanted an infrared thermometer that looked like a phaser from Star Trek:

    20130408Star_Trek_phaser.jpg

Unfortunately I could not find one and had to settle for less :sorry:

    23183ffb-227f-4f07-905a-42dd7e780fba.jpg

Another good thing - you can use it to check if your coffee is hot - or if the beer is cold  I'm gonna be a real pain when visiting restaurants from now on :jokealert:

  8. It's summer, and although some persons may appreciate this time of year, some of us may have (or try) to keep books and art cool :ohnoez:

Just like cleaning, monitoring books and art may not be something exciting to do, but it needs to be done! And what better time to check for light exposure and temperatures than a bright sunny day

So I just found the wife's Infrared thermometer (high precision, developed to measure body temp in babies) and the lux meter - and I found:

    DSC_0133_zpsnwjhnae5.jpg

So Hulk and Iron Man are cool (pun intended  ) - and not exposed to much daylight - other pieces in this room get a similar amount of light, so no need to show them all

In my man cave, Ka-Zar is cool too (65 F is a dream, all year I'm trying to keep temps below 70 F)

    DSC_0137_zps8tedtbaz.jpg

And he certainly does not get burned by the summer sun:

    DSC_0138_zpsxnyxjo2e.jpg

Nightwing is exposed to more daylight, still nothing to worry about, this bath in 80 lux won't ignite any vampires and is short-lasting (some conservators recommend that average light exposure should be no more than 50 lux for max. 8 hours/day - even this Nightwing cover gets less - to compare, direct sun light is typically 10,000 to 100,000 lux):

    DSC_0139_zpseg3ivy9r.jpg

Books don't need a lux meter, they are always in the dark - but good to see that Conan still is cool ;)

    DSC_0140_zpskouno0vm.jpg

And some of my better books are cool too (admitted, all my CGC books are constantly monitored for temperature and humidity, I'm just checking if the other thermometers agree with the infrared thermometer - and they did :insane: )

    DSC_0145_zpsvcns805u.jpg

Humidity is about 40 %, so that's fine too. Guess I can relax and enjoy the summer for now hm Just for reference, some experts recommend that books and art are kept at a constant 40 % humidity, 65 F and max 50 lux - and to put these 50 lux into perspective again:

"Many dyes, both old and new, are faded perceptibly by 50 years of exposure to 50 lux for eight hours a day. 50 lux is not safe illumination. It is a compromise between deterioration and visibility."

  9.

    IMG_2357_zpsrexl3g0j.jpg

Thanks for a great post - you do have quite a challenge getting everything to fit and you're doing an amazing job (thumbs u Saying goodbye to 20k books must be a tough decision...

Regarding the photo - I've always been worried when stacking more than about 20 CGC books, because the CGC holders seem fragile - I was afraid that the weight of more than 20 CGC books could damage the bottom book. So thank you for totally destroying that myth ;)

  10. Just added 4 more books to the scan library:

You can bid on 3 of these books here:

BTW, according to CLink and CGC Census there're 7 #4 9.8 books, but that's because CGC has not yet updated the Census - there're now 8 Conan the Barbarian #4 9.8 books :gossip: See them all here:

Guess I still own 25 % of that population hm

  11. Game of Thrones

Right now, my favorite TV shows are Game of Thrones, Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead, The 100 and Last Ship. It's nice the way their seasons are staggered so usually there's at least 1 show going on at any time.

The wife and I have started watching The 100 too, actually it's quite a good TV show (we're halfway through Season 2). I mean, I've been married for 7 years, I deserve to enjoy some Clarke and Octavia! lol:facepalm:

And congrats, your GOT #3 SS CGC 9.8 is simply awesome :applause:

  12. I'm a great fan of Capullo, but yes, I do find it quite unrealistic that most pieces on his website would reach such prices in auction.

I've got a Galactus page drawn by Capullo in the early 1990's, I can't help but wondering how he would price that piece if it was available on his website hm:insane:

    http://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=1213758

Still, 2.5k for this old cover does not seem expensive, if you're into such pieces - I like the cover, also details like the stars etc on the inside of the cape:

    Preggo-Cover29.jpg

The Spawn splash pages are truly awesome and look like cover quality (full page splash). If I was the owner, I'd probably not price them much differently, ok, maybe the 90k piece
