  1. Just won my first Gene Colan Dracula cover :cloud9: I'm a great fan of Colan and especially appreciate how he nailed several emotions/feelings in this piece - like love, desire, lust and hunger  - and I believe it's a nice example of Colan's fluid figure drawing style and expert use of shadow:

Now I can't help thinking, was I a better man on my own wedding night? hm

The 7.5 is now an 8.0 and sold for so much more. That sale is not on GPA neither are several other sales in universal and restored grades.

Also congrats - you must have bought a really impressive book - I can see you currently have an amazing 425,104 Registry points and just 9 books!  Amazing!

My Conan collection seems to be going nowhere, sigh.

    Thank you ! :foryou:

I ran a check of registry point allocation (Detective 37) against a whole span of grades in both universal and restored, and points are now much better aligned with current market value. I would know ;)

    Good job !

It does seem like quite a bump - today's GPA:

    DC37.thumb.png.836a795a232bfa3d96bcc31bcd98c8ac.png

    And awarded points:

I can't find much info about newer sales above 7.0, interesting if the 9.0 would get anywhere near $200,000 if it was put up for auction... hm Then again, 10-15 x increase in 15 years may of course be possible.

I forgot to mention my dear ASM #48 CGC 9.8 - which I paid $4300 for in 2013 (it's on GPA, I've got the Curator Copy) - but it's a pedigree book. Still plain vanilla isn't much cheaper - last one sold in 2013 for $3800 according to GPA:

    Best,

    A non-pedigree OW-W ASM #48 CGC 9.8 just sold on CLink for $4200:

    - and there was another sale listed on GPA a few weeks ago for 4k (sold in Feb 2018).

So it would be nice to have points increased maybe by 50% or so... :foryou:

Also these 2 Silver Age books have been selling for close to $4,000 in CGC 9.8 in recent years:

    Amazing Spider-Man #61 (1st Gwen Stacy cover)

Amazing Spider-Man #86 (Origin of the Black Widow, and 1st appearance of her classic costume).

I paid 3k for my ASM #59 - don't forget that book too (thumbsu Note that #59 is the first cover to feature the sultry image of Spidey's eventual bride, Mary Jane Watson :cloud9:

  6. Amazing Spider-Man #51 9.6 - it's the first-ever Kingpin cover - sold in May 2017 at ComicConnect for more than 7k - I don't have the link but it's on GPAnalysis:

    Unavngivet.thumb.png.2d4d6a4519a8b77bbced4807657a51c8.png

Other ASM #51 9.6 books sold at Comiclink for 4k and 6k respectively (the last two or three years), but the links have been removed - and Comiclink sales are not tracked by GPAnalysis. The current Registry score is 1700, it would be fair to see this score increased, thanks!

It is upon his arrival on Barsoom (that is what I thought upon seeing it and exactly what she said when I told her about your comment)!

I actually read this book around the time the movie came out...it was good but not great. We saw the movie together and all loved it and now use that as an example of why we should not listen to critics (the movie was supposedly killed by the new Disney regime over internal politics at the studio). I assume she picked the subject due to that good memory. :luhv:

I loved the movie too and have it on blu-ray 3D, maybe I should soon watch it with my 9-year-old son. The trailer's as awesome as ever :cloud9:

Early in the year I challenged my daughter ( a freshman at Pratt Art Institute) to make me a Christmas present in the style of Moebius. I tweeted Moebius art all year long and today she gave me this...

    DR6F2VyW0AAd-AM.jpg

She says that it is John Carter on Mars.

It's an awesome present - although Carter technically speaking isn't alone, he is the only Eartman on Mars. The piece really catches his isolation - and the beauty of the (Moebius-style) landscape.
