  1. Well, Eldon made it a little bit easier by "designating" the book himself just under the 10 cents price tag instead of having CGC do it.
  2. Apparently so, as I just checked this on the GoCollect website and they claim that the FMV for one if 9.8 graded condition is over $5K and copies in 9.6 graded condition are over $2K, with the 9.4 copies coming in at $750. Not sure how good those FMV numbers are, but they sure seem to be up there in the land of a bit. Then again, I don't really follow follow this part of the BA market or this particular title at all. Looks like anything below a 9.4 copy that not be worth slabbing given all of the associated fees involved and hassle that it would take. Since I am sure that I have a couple copies of this 1st issue still in polybags though from way back in the day, I really should look around for them although for the life of me, I would have absolutely no idea where they would be.
  3. I was thinking of this pic when I saw this tread. thx Simply reminds me of the time when Death In The Family was coming out and the hottest thing to hit the shelves of the LCS's at the time. Remember walking into one of the local comic conventions at the time and all of the dealers had a whole wall full of these books up and yet had the nerve to claim to potential buyers that they were considered to be "rare".
  4. Totally agree with you here, as long as you don't forget to include the decimal point to the left of the last 2 digits.
  5. Has the sun already set on this book? 30 years ago this would have garnered much more attention. . . Maybe there's just a big aversion to the third issues in this particular auction since both of the Cap 3 books are also not drawing much interest to date. Well, hopefully this copy here should be able to hit 5-figures since CC had a lower condition CGC 7.5 graded copy that sold into the 5-figures over a year ago. Likewise, it looks like the Cap 3's need to move up quite a bit if they want to even get into the $20K+ price range that the restored PLOD copies in the CGC 4.0 to 6.0 grade range sold for during the past couple of years. Not sure if it's the big slowdown which @Mmehdy had been alluding to in his Financial Crisis/Coronavirus thread as these bids on all these books sure seems rather tepid so far to say the least.
  6. This would definitely be the case if you are referring to the Gotham TV show.
  7. Well, if you are going to include Kane in there, then he would definitely be #1 with a bullet.
  8. Of course you are right @Gotham Kid. Personally my predictions are $65k and $45k for these books Not sure if they'll be able to hit those numbers on this go round since that's an awfully long way to climb from where they are right now (i.e. $13,800 & $11,700 respectively). Especially since this lower graded of the two copies at CGC 5.0 has 2 rusty staples that appears to be migrating into the paper:
  9. Could use a little of Jane in the mix... Yes indeed, as I watched the latest Tarzan movie on TV the other night and I must say that Jane was looking pretty vivacious and sultry in her role. Definitely couldn't say the same thing about her role in Suicide Squard as Harley Quinn though, as I had to delete that POS movie off before the end of the first hour.
  10. So, how's the weather in South Dakota and what is the crowd size like?
  11. Still early, but they definitely are trending a lot lower than what they have been selling for recently and would not be a good sign if bidding doesn't pick up. Then again, it's never a good idea to have 2 copies of the exact same book competing against each other in the same auction. Noticed that I received an email earlier with a complete description change for the higher graded Eldon copy of Cap 3. Looks like this description was probably rewritten by the consignor themselves as they might not have been happy that it is trending lower than the lower graded copy. Nowhere close to the finish line, but a bit puzzling and the new description is more of a rewritten sales pitch for the Eldon copy as it is not in the typical Heritage jargon. Anybody else noticed that there sure seems to be a lot of "Centerfold Detached" books lately which both of these Cap 3's have. Wonder if it's got anything with the rather agressive way that they apparently do their page count as that video indicate not the greatest or gentlest care is taken when they perform this activity.
  12. Ummmm..........................I believeI already answered your question in my post up above.
  13. FTFY Hey Tim; In light of your fear and obvious OCD behavior here and the neeed for you to get over it, I am wiling to step up to the plate to help you wean off your need to always acquire these CGC highest graded copies of comic books. I suggest we start slowly with a few 9.2's and 9.0's from my own personal collection before moving further down into the 8's. Of course, since we know that overcoming OCD is a slow and progressive step by step process, you can continue to pay CGC highest graded equivalent prices so that you will feel more comfortable and at home during this whole process. Before you know it, you'll be down here in the cesspool with the rest of us chasing and bidding on all of these CGC 4.0 and CGC 6.0 graded copies of books.
  14. I vote the MSH 13 at CGC 9.6. Carol Danvers with no powers is in about 5 panels in the book. At least with the others you knew you got a full story about the character throughout the book. And it must kill the buyer to know they overpaid that much on movie hype but there is one person out there holding a CGC 9.8. Well, guess what..........it looks like that one person holding onto the CGC highest graded copy of MSH 13 has decided to take a shot and see if it can break the $31,111 record price to date: It really shouldn't be that much of a problem though with all of the hype that CL is giving to this book in their upcoming Summer Feature Auction, plus the fact that CL is the pre-eminent home for all of the CGC label chasers and CGC Registry points chasers.
  15. Yeah, I thought they went for over value. I own these books right now, just wanted to upgrade. But not paying these prices. Not sure if they will be getting much cheaper than that since almost every single one of them were pretty much sold at less than condition guide prices, except for the odd ones like Cerebus #11, #16, and #19 as I guess those had fewer copies already slabbed at the 9.8 condition level.
  16. Yes, especially when it comes to fighting off his inner demons when it comes to fighting off his constant and ongoing salacious thoughts about his young ward.
  17. Well, look at what's making a return trip to give all of you lucky early Fox collectors with deep pockets a second chance to win it: https://www.comicconnect.com/item/885353?tzf=1 Makes me wonder if it's going to be able to beat the $51K mark which it was able to hit last time during the big Jon Berk Auction a few summers ago? If it does, my bet is that it should then also be able to surpassed the $55K mark that CC was able to sell the equivalent graded Allentown copy of Wonderworld 3 for.
  18. It's been suggested by MANY that you're kind of into only uber high grade copies of books. If this is indeed true, can you please explain the following for us then:
  19. Glad you was the lucky winner of that copy there as it definitely presents much much nicer than just a 6.5 graded copy, plus it looks you you've got nice PQ and strong bold colors to go with it at a steal of a price. I also feel the same way about books in my collection as I am a long term collector with books in my collection held from decades ago, but yet still surprised at times how much money coleectors are now willing to pay for them. Congrats to you on what is an absolutely stunning pickup and from my own POV, another much underappreciated historical book which collectors in this current marketplace seems to have forgotten about, and as a result, which gives real collectors like us the chance to pick them up at very reasonable prices.
  20. Yes, indeed as it looks like the SS 20 Tarzan book finished up in the #11 position tied with about 10 other books in terms of the most valuable books in the first Overstreet Guide way back in 1970. Top of guide for the book back then was set at $125 which was apparently tied with a few other then revered strip reprint books like Famous Funnies 1, Century of Comics 1, Feature Book 25 (i.e. Flash Gordon), Feature Book 26 (i.e. Prince Valiant), and Four Color 10 (i.e. Flash Gordon by Alex Raymond). Looks like the most highly valued strip reprint book in that first Overstreet Price Guide was King Comics #1 at $130 which featured the first appearances of Flash Gordon, Popeye, Henry, and Mandrake the Magician. As a point of reference, Action 1 finished up in top spot at $300; with 'Tec 27 nipping on its heels at $275; while Marvel 1 and Supes 1 came in next with both of them tied at $250. Pretty clear that these strip reprint books haven't kept up with the super heroes in terms of ROI as a book like Four Color 10 was valued at $85 in Good condition back then and in the latest guide some almost 50 years later has rocketed all the way up to $88 in Good condition. Even sadder to note that it looks as though the current CL Auction just had this nicely presenting copy relative to grade of Four Color 10 in their auction on Monday and it sold for the "astronomical" price of $330 or at a discount of 12% to the current condition guide price of a whopping $374: https://comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2FAuctions%2Fdefault.asp%3FFocused%3D1%26pg%3D176%26x%3D45%26y%3D6%23Item_1404251&id=1404251&itemType=0
  21. How long have you been buying movie and TV related hype speculation books because the answer is very obvious? Which means that I probably already missed my chance and really should have gotten around to looking for some of my copies since this was one of the very few books which I went back to buy multiple copies of when the Gulacy MOKF books became popular way back in the mid-70's.
  22. Why limit yourself to just Blade or Moonknight when there's an even much faster way to get through all of the auction listings? I simply scroll right through anything that's Marvel plus most of the DC mainstream titles because they are just so common and tend to show up in every single auction out there anyways.
  23. Wowza............although not at $150K, still a super strong price from my own POV at $120K.
  24. Actually,it was #2. $6 and that was not the "100% more for a mint copy" - so figure a fine or so copy. Is HTD #2 worth $6 even today in mid-grade? The #1 at $12 is actually a slightly better deal, still the ROI is outrageously poor. Well, how about speculators who are paying out big dollars for CGC 9.8 graded copies of what are basically common as dirt worthless books. I still remember in one of the Overstreet updates posting a picture of somebody paying $2,500 for a CGC 9.8 graded copy of the DC Shadow Comics #1. For his sake at least, I hope it was the Kaluta version and not the Chaykin version which still sits at only $4 in top of guide right now. Go figure......manufactured graded collectibles.
  25. Well, looks like your thread here also brought back some fond memories for some of the Golden Agers here as somebody just rebooted this thread here from the GA boards that you might find interesting and right down your alley:
