  1. Although they are under the recent auction sales results, maybe the offerers are hoping they'll still accept their offer or come back with a reasonable counter offer, especially considering that the offers are at least still substantially higher than the original purchase price of the books in the first place.
  2. Wowzers...1280 for cerebus 11?!? Considering the CGC 9.8 graded condition levels of these Cerebus books here, my opinion is that they mostly seem to be running on the low side at only around double top of guide for uber high grade copies. As usual, there are a few outliers like Cerebus 11, 16, and 19 which is most likely impacted due to a slightly lower census count. Final price on the Cerebus 3 seem to have gone pretty low at only $201 in CGC 9.4 graded condition, especially since top of guide in 9.2 NM- has the book listed at $240. All I can say to the original poster here is that if you really think you could have gotten Cerebus 3 in CGC 9.4 graded condition at a 40% discount to top of guide or a Cerebus 7 in CGC 9.8 graded condtion at almost 50% discount from top of 9.2 guide, etc., then you must have been expecting a very soft and weak cerebus market.
  3. OMG. That's so amazing Well, all I can say is that it would simply be a whole lot more amazing if those books were sitting in my personal collection, instead of sitting unloved and unsold on the bottom shelf of some magazine rack where nobody can see it.
  4. Great pick-up! Interesting: the cover implies that Wonder Woman is running for President in the year 2943. What took her so long? Yes, especially if Charles Moulton had any input into the cover, I thought it would have been 1953 considering his shall we say very liberal and open views when it came to women. Then again, maybe they were just prurient views when it came to his thoughts on women, which then makes me wonder where he got his idea for Wonder Woman's golden lasso of truth:
  5. As was I since it was not listed in Chuck's MH catalogue and there had never been any mention of a possible Church copy of Suspense 3 prior to the HA in 2017. Yes, somebody out there definitely must have the Church copy of Suspense 4 since every issue of Suspense Comics with the exception of Suspense 3 was listed in Chuck's Mile High catalogue. A check of the Heritage and CC auction archives indicates that every single Church copy of this short 12-issue Suspense run has shown up in the public marketplace with the exception of both Suspense 4 and Suspense 8, with the highest graded copies for both of these books still at a CGC 7.5 condition level for now. I guess it's only a matter of time before these last 2 Church holdouts make their way into the marketplace.
  6. Per a Scoop newsletter a few weeks ago, the release date for this year's editions of the Overstreet Price Guide has been moved from July 22nd to September 2nd.
  7. It's a tough book above 6.0, no doubt, but I have seen enough lower grade copies to know that it IS available with regularity. Fully agree with you and the reason why I said the copies in grade are much more difficult to come across in the open marketplace.
  8. Well, I guess I must be showing my age as I can still remember back in the day when Action 12 was still lumped in with the rest of the surrounding non-Supes cover in terms of valuations in the Overstreet guide. Although this is definitely not the case any more, it is clear that this particular issue in grade must be locked away by vintage collectors in their private collection with the key thrown away, as the highest graded copies to come to market so far to date (based upon both the HA and CC auction archives) after some 20 years of certification is still only in the CGC 2.5 G+ condition range. I am sure this first published pictured appearance of The Batman has something to do with this, along with the colorful Zatara cover by Guardineer.
  9. Big congrats on a nice pickup of a book that certainly doesn't seem to show up in the marketplace that often and when it does, usually sells for top dollar. Just checked the CGC census and it would appear that the More Fun's 56, 63, & 64 has the lowest number of graded copies as they are generally running around half of the other surrounding issues. Definitely the case with More Fun 56 with the classic first cover appearance and origin of Doctor Fate since the last one that Heritage had for sale was the Billy Wright copy back in 2012. Yes, it would appear that the More Fun's definitely seems to finally be getting a bit of life back into them, especially in comparison to some of the other still moribund DC GA titles. Will be interesting to see how the More Fun's do in this current CC Event Auction since they appear to have a good handful of these early ones available on this go round here. My preference have always been the Doctor Fate and Spectre covers in the 50's and 60's, but sadly no MF 61 or MF 65 in this auction which are 2 of my favorite More Fun covers for obvious reasons.
  10. All I can say is that if a non-key or non-classic cover GA book and one that's not the CGC's highest graded copy can really fetch 6-figures, then it's still a pretty hot marketplace out there.
  11. The right choice would have been for you to have taken both books, instead of only taking one. Needless to say though, I've made the same non-buying mistakes myself so many times before in the past.
  12. Well, since nobody has come up with either an Action 1 or 'Tec 27 as their earliest 1st appearance book, I am not sure if this one here would qualify or not: No major character 1st appearances unless you count Mutt & Jeff as key characters, but still designated by Overstreet as the first modern day comic book issued way back in 1933. Remember picking up my copy (not the copy pictured above) in a group of 16 books from a private collector during my first trip down to the SD Con way back in the very early 90's as I had been really into the historical comics at the time and simply couldn't pass this book up. Sadly, all of these early pre-hero newspaper reprint books have lost popularity over the decades and the book is probably worth no more than what I had paid for it all those long years ago, even though it's still a definite keeper for me.
  13. I still clearly remember the first time I heard about this book here. It was back in '95 during the Diamond Int'l Galleries grand opening and Fishler or somebody else was lucky enough to had latched onto the Overstreet copy and had to pay the grand sum of only $600 for the book. Well, less than 2 weeks later there were big ads from Metro on the book with an asking price of something like $5K or $6K when top of guide was only around $700 or thereabouts at the time. Definitely a big timing mistake by Fishler as both Geppi and Overstreet were apparently none too happy about this and as a result, then priced the rest of the hundreds of GA books "accordingly" which they had set aside for pricing later on. Based upon what I heard through the grapevine, Fishler and the East Coast triumvirate did not end up closing the deal on virtually all of those books in the end as the prices were simply so high on them in light of what the Terrific 5 was going for in the open marketplace.
  14. Based upon what I've heard over the past few decades, Suspense 4 is apparently supposed to be the toughest to find out of the entire Suspense run. If it comes to being in grade though, it would come down to both Suspense 4 and Suspense 8 and the CGC census population report would seem to bear this out as the highest graded copies to date for both of these issues is only at the CGC 7.5 VF- condition level.
  15. I don't have enough magic for that. Well, how about trying for a slightly easier one than like Adventure 73 first before going for the big toughie?
  16. Well, it definitely looks like both Cap 1 and Cap 3 certainly did not have their best showings on this auction go round here. I guess we really shouldn't have been that surprised with the Cap 1 result though since CL was only able to fetch $100K for their CGC 4.0 graded copy of Cap 1 about a week ago. Then again, it's still noticeably less than the low 6-figures which 2 other CGC 3.5 graded copies of Cap 1 were able to fetched a couple of short years ago. As for Cap 3, definitely never a good idea to have multiple copies of the same book available in the same auction. Still, although the price for a CGC 5.0 copy appears to be alright at first glance, definitely not the case when a restored CGC 5.5 graded copy sold for slightly more at the end of last year and then a restored CGC 4.0 graded copy sold for $18K in the last Heritage auction a few short months ago.
  17. Hey Richard; Will let you in on a little secret and at the same time also help you out here, as although they do indeed look nice together, it's still not quite right though They'll look so much more perfect and presentable if they were sitting in my personal collection, so just send them all my way and I'll hold onto them for you.
  18. Well, from my own personal POV, if you are just comparing the All-New 8 to the Terrific 5, then it's pretty much a no-brainer as I would go with the Terrific 5. Don't really care that much for the All-New 8 cover since it's just a bit too busy to me with way too many characters on the cover. Personally, have never really care much for kid heroes and I think thes "boy heroes" definitely takes away from the cover. In addition, the brighter colors from the daytime scene definitely takes away the moonlit moodiness of the Suspense 3 cover. The Terrific 5 cover is also a bit overcrowded, but definitely not to the same extent as the All-New 8, but still able to give you more a sense of foreboding. Then again, if you are looking for something that is similar artistic wise to Suspense 3 per se, I would much rather take the Suspense 1 which came out a few months earlier: To me, this is the poor man's version and possibly a precursor to Suspense 3 in the sense of having the same layout with the moonlit background, the man or hero on top, the damsel in bondage at the bottom about to suffer her merciless fate, and the robed villians just watching what's about to take place. Definitely not as "busy" as All-New 8 or possibly even Terrific 5, but yet able to give the same dark moodiness as Suspense Comics 3.
  19. Well, he definitely must have been flying high no matter what type of glue was used, after finding that his little bump of an additional $25K actually worked.
  20. Lesson learned. Ask price != sell price It's probably also because he initially forgot all about the minor amount of glue on the cover and had to add in the $25K to cover the cost for the glue.
  21. I was tracking a couple of classic cover books and they seem to be doing quite well, especially this one here: Sold for $14,400 or something like over 6X condition guide, but then again, it is a San Francisco pedigree copy of a classic cover book that doesn't come around too often. Also noticed this Brenda Starr book with the long acknowledged GGA bondage cover artwork: Managed to sell for what I had initially thought was a rather strong price at $13,200 until I noticed that CC had sold an equivalent graded copy for $16,866 in one of their Event Auctions way back in 2014 which must have been a real outlier of a sale back then.
  22. Since many of the non-Batman related DC books seems to have been taking it on the chin during the past few years, I thought this one here did rather surprisingly well: Seems like a pretty strong price at $7,200 or almost 4X condition guide for a mid-grade copy and not sure if this is due to the fact that this particular issue doesn't seem to show up in the marketplace as often as some of the other More Fun issues? I guess we'll find out soon if this sale here is just an outlier or if there is finally some resurgence of interest in the More Fun title as it looks like ComicConnect has a rather nice handful of these earlier More Fun issues coming up in their current Event Auction later this month.
  23. Agree, although I wouldn’t refer to Albedo 2 as a more common book with only 2,000 copies printed originally. Although I would definitely agree with you that it has a substantially lower print run as compared to the mainstream titles from DC and Marvel, there does appear to be an abnormally high proportion of the print run slabbed in HG condition with over 100 Universal copies and a further 20 Signature copies graded at CGC 9.0 or above.
  24. I would generally temd to agree with this comment, especially if you are referring to CGC highest graded copies of books from the more common BA to CA time periods, as CL is the go to auction house of choice for the CGC label chasers.
