  1. Are you saying it's a case of buying the underlying book itself, as opposed to buying the CGC label. After watching the way the bidding was going, it makes me wonder if the winner of the CGC 5.5 graded copy might have simply made a mistake and threw in his $925 bid on the wrong copy of the book. Especially since I believe the bid was at something like only $725 at the time and then it jumped to $925 just like that.
  2. Can't quite figure this one out, but I guess it's a classic case of bidders not bidding on a book based upon the CGC labels: A copy of Rangers 26 with the classic GGA cover in CGC 7.0 grade going for only $902, while a significantly lower graded copy with inferior PQ managed to fetch $925 mere minutes later:
  3. Wow, it looks like there's a ton of extended bids being thrown in there on some of those Planet books right now.
  4. Congrats on your sales results here. After factoring in all of the associated auction fees, it looks like you are going to be quite a bit further ahead here by having gone with CC over HA for these 2 specific books.
  5. I assume you must be ytalking about this copy here then: Looks like it sold for $31K back on March 13th of this past year, according to the auction link below: https://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?referral=EAlist&id=756404&title=INCREDIBLEHULK
  6. They do have a "Sold Items" icon on the left hand side of their Home page which you can click onto and then do a search for previous sales by individual books. The only problem is that although they have over 61,000 items listed, it appears that they have fallen behind with respect to maintaining this database. Especially since virtually all of the auction sales during the past year or two has not yet been added into this historical database of theirs.
  7. Just need to add the books you're interested in into your watch list and it will be stored there forever until you delete. Sounds like a lot of unnecessary work here from my own personal point of view. Wouldn't it simply be a lot easier to save all of CC Auction notification emails in a separate email sub-folder so you can have access to ALL of their auction listings for as long as you want, instead of saving individual watch lists? For example, this particular listing for 'Tec 69 was included with links to all of the other individual listings for the books from Catman to Gangsters & Gun Molls (Part 1/2) that was sent out back on November 18th. I've got my sub-folder for all of the CC auction links back as far as several years ago.
  8. Well, although the AF 15 market might have cooled off a bit and in the consolidation phase right now, it looks like some of the heat is continuing to transfer over to the FF 1 market. Looks like the F+ copy of FF 1 moved up another $10K during the extended bidding time period, while the CGC 8.0 VF copy moved up by another $18K.
  9. Isn't this kind of like all of the so-called "soft and fluffy stuff" that the technical CGC grade doesn't really care about and hence don't really take into account so much when it comes to the final grade? This kind of stuff is more in the territory of the CVA or QES sticker or whatever you call them.
  10. Good luck with the 32. Such an awesome cover! Yes indeed, a very beautiful cover and very apropos for the Christmas season with its green and red colors.
  11. Yes, I believe it needs some price consolidation before jumping to the next valuation level, as I really see that $90K auction result as more of an outlier than anything else.
  12. Can you explain to me why the LCS owner shoud be held completely accountable here, when in fact a large part of this might actually be attributable to CGC's inconsistency when it comes to grading comic books? If we follow your rationale here, then should the original poster here be paying the LCS owner a few huindred dollars more if the book comes back with a CGC 9.9 graded label?
  13. This is exactly why it's completely irrational for a rational person to be paying multiples more for a relatively common book that comes with a CGC 9.8 graded label, as opposed to one with a CGC 9.6 graded label. Especially since grading is definitely much more of an art in terms of just being one person's opinion at a particular point in time, as opposed to being anything even remotely close to an exact science.
  14. You didn't know that's how their site works? Yes, I actually much prefer the 3 minute extended bidding format because it gives me enough time to think and make a fully informed bidding decision as to whether I should bump it up to the next increment or not. Preferable to the traditional live auction format which Heritage uses which gives you about 30 seconds or less to decide if you are going to raise the bid or not. What's worst of all is the CL format whereby if you really want a book, you probably have throw in an atomic bomb syle bid at the end since you don't have any idea at all of the other bidders will be doing. Definitely the reason why I pay the least attention of all to the CL auction website since it's almost like bidding with blinders on.
  15. Of course they can, since the books belong to the consignors and auction sites are more than willing to bend to the wishes to the consignors just in order to get their books. I even personally know of one consignor who had all of his books slabbed back at the end of 2015 and then simply left them all with Heritage to auction off over the following 3 years, based upon his auction schedule that he wanted. So yes, it's always left to the discretion of the consignors.
  16. I personally believe that each one of these 3 major comic book auction sites have their own particular niche customers and it's really up to the consignors to do a bit of due diligence beforehand in terms of selecting the right auction house for specific books within their collection if they want to maximize their returns. And yes, December is definitely NOT the best of times to be auctioning off your books.
  17. That may be very close to the last bid. But I'd have to guess it never reaches the reserve price. One buyer is already out of the market and there aren't many who can afford a 5 figure comic book. Well, looks like the last bid was for $50K which was most likely also the reserve price. Looks like this is probably around the current market price for this book in CGC 9.8, with that $90K HA result being a definite outlier at this current point in time.
  18. Well, if that's your dollar box, I am willing to dig deep down into my pocket and . Seriously though, that's a real sharp looking copy of Mask 2 with very vibrant eye popping colors that would look good in anybody's personal collection.
  19. As I had alluded to in my comments, like any book, whether it be GA or SA, in a rapidly rising market like what we have gone through recently, books normally tend to overshoot a bit. This is usually followed by a slight downward period where the valuation of the book tends to consolidate before making its next movement upwards. During this consolidation period, the marketplace also generally cycles through to other sectors at the same time which is actually a positive sign for the strength of the overall market as a whole. This is actually a healthy sign for any type of market, but I guess it usually depends on the length of time for this consolidation period.
  20. Sure enough Maybe we need to have a sticker that signifies the opposite of the CVA sticker to justify why books sell below what other copies in equivalent grades have sold for previously. Or is it possible with so many equivalent or similar graded copies of certain books hitting the auction blocks and CGC ensuring that the CPR game is running at warp speed, bidders might be paying less attention to the grades as compared to the past and starting to look more at the underlying book itself?
  21. I thought about this book and (let the bricks begin to fly) wasn’t sure it had the legs to carry it in the hearts and minds of future collectors. Like the 7 and the 10, it’s an early Supe cover. No new characters (to my knowledge), just early Supe covers. Sorry, that truly was my thought I believe what happened here is that the winner of this book was bidding based upon the current assigned CGC grade of NM- 9.2 and the fact that it was now tied for highest graded copy with the Atlantic City copy. The underbidders for this copy here was probably bidding less for the current grade and possibly more for the underlying book itself, knowing full well they possibly could have had the book for less money a year ago, even though that would have been at a premium to condition guide at the time. I personally think the primary reason for the lower than expected price on this book here really lies in the hands of the consignor here. Especially when it's usually not a good idea and a bit of a gamble to put a high dollar, high profile book like this back into the marketplace in such a short period of time and expect to make some fast and easy money on it.
  22. Wow, now that's a fantastic idea somebody has there. I remember selling off a big GA book back in '94 and I went and took a scan of the front cover so that I could turn it into a jigsaw puzzle before letting the book go. When the buyer saw my jigsaw puzzle, he had to take a much more careful look at the book as he figured that I had created it directly from the book and might have damaged it in the process.
  23. Peter; I believe you are going to get the AF 15 speculators and investors in a tizzy here, especially in terms of that thread they have going on the SA boards about the continuing falling price for AF 15's. This auction result and price comparison will only serve to heighten their level of anxiety. Of course, although most of us here laugh about the value of a CVA sticker, I would have to honestly say that recent auction results for various books would indicate there might be some actual value behind having this sticker on a slabbed book.
  24. last sale was 185k in 2011? I guess it really depends if you are talking about the CGC grade or this particular copy of Action 13? Yes, the CGC 9.2 graded Atlantic City copy of this book did indeed sell for $185K back in 20111, but this was when top of guide was running at only $30K. Makes you wonder if the Overstreet guide has finally caught up to this book or not since top of guide is now at $190K? Although I will say this is the ONLY copy of Action 13 that I have seen sell for a discount to guide, with even restored copies selling for a premium to guide in the past. Based upon the way the bidding was going, my bet is that the winner will be absolutely ecstatic as I strongly believe they had a much higher bid in on the book. What kept the price down this time was the lack of an underbidder(s) that was willing to go higher than the eventual winning amount.
  25. Yes indeed, that is a very strong price for this book here. Rather shocking from my point of view since I have personally never been a big fan of this particular cover myself:
