  1. I wish all comics other than mine were free. Better yet, I wish you would pay me to haul away some of your long forgotten GA books so that you would have more free space to store all of those red hot MA newsstand variants that you must be getting into your stores.
  2. Wowza indeed!!! If the raw Fair looking copy managed to fetched $3,250 whenever this auction was, it makes me wonder how high these 2 higher graded copies will end up going for in today's CC auction: If the sale price for the raw copy is any indication of the real market price for this particular all-time classic cover issue, I imagine there should be quite a bit of action during the 3-minute extended bidding time periods since both books seems to be running relatively low right now at price points of only $4,800 and $3,401 respectively. Will definitely be interesting to wach and see where these 2 copies end up at by the time it's all said and done.
  3. Nowhere near as complete as some of the others, there sure seems to be some rather extended runs in this particular CC Auction on this go round here. Witness the big SA Batman run from ysterday and then they've got the extended GA Flash and Frnkenstein runs on the slate for Wednesday. Makes me wonder if a few more of the longer term collectors within this hobby place of ours are also finally starting to cash out, similar to what Berk and a couple of the others have been doing over the past couple of years?
  4. I hate it when some of these auction sites don't put on the dates for their items that were sold outside their aution platforms.
  5. Was going through the CC auction for this week and it looks like it's going to be an absolutely field day for all of the Frankenstein collectors out there. Strongly doubt that this hardly ever comes around very often, but it looks like a near complete run of high end Frankenstein Comics are available from issue #1 right through to the final issue #33, including the U.K. editions for a few of the really early issues. The only exceptions being Frankenstein issues #18 and #20 which are probably being retained by the astute consignor of this absolutely gorgeous run. I somehow think this Frankenstein run is going to set off some major fireworks during the 3-minute extended bidding sessions which are bound to follow, especially considering the fact that several of these copies are the highest graded copies or 2nd highest graded copies according to the population census report. I guess it's just a matter of waiting and watching.
  6. Topless Jughead cover bump would be my guess. Nah...............from the cover image here, I imagine it must be all of the female bidders going after the bottomless trio of Archie, Juggie, and Reg in all of their unabashed glory.
  7. Guessing 550-600K Sold for 498K. Not a single bid in extended time format. Definitely a bit surprising that there was not a single bid in the 3-minute extended bidding time format. Just as surprising though, if not more, was this book which had no problems racking up extended bids and actually outlasted both copies of Bats 1: I believe this book started the day at only something like $125 with 12 bids, yet moved right up there during the extended bidding time period until it hit $667 with a total of 43 bids. Makes me wonder if its because of both Betty and Veronica in butt ugly swim suits or is this another one of those books where collectors are reading far too much into the comment of Archie going "both ways".
  8. Any chance you remember what his asking price range was on the book when it was still in a PLOD holder?
  9. Do you remember what it was worth (i.e. sold for) when it was a 8.0 MP and how long ago this was?
  10. Yes indeed, as it looks like Bat 1 for the Gold and Action 1 for the Silver, with the Bronze most likely being held by Spidey until he hands it off to Phantom Lady on Thursday afternoon. Way behind eating their dust and sweeping up the racetrack floor will be both the rare Italian and possibly even rarer Peruvian editions of Walking Dead #1, with both of them still sitting there at the astonomical price of $1 with no customer bids to their credit yet.
  11. Well, looks like it's now only a matter of a few hours until we find out where the Top 3 books of this auction is going to finished up at. Although I imagine the Church copy of Phantom Lady 17 is going to have a big say in that later on this week in her attempt to reclaim and snatch the bronze medal back away from AF 15.
  12. Have you gone back to the previous page with the link provided by Masterchief for the post that was started by Borock to explain the situation with Boy Comics 17?
  13. Holy Cow !!! So the higher echelons of Heritage aka Halperin is enmeshed in this! look for this thread to be killed by the mods. This subject is wayee too toxic. And what about cgc. Are cgc owners involved in Heritage? sigh .... Don't see why it would be, especailly since it has already been discussed many times before on the boards here. From a strict business point of view, a corporation always has a much better chance of success if they can implement vertical integration by either acquiring or setting up compnaies in the same production vertical. Hence, it would only make sense from a business point of view if they own not only a comic book grading company, but also one that restores or "preps" the books up prior to the grading process, and then follow this up by having partial ownership or whatever in one of the major auction houses that sells this so-called "finished" product. Don't they also own or have some interest in some sort of gallery post Heritage that pushes a few of these higher end items further down the line? Now, take this same concept and spread it across some of the other collectibles fields out there because CCG is so much more than just about the relatively small comic book marketplace which appears to be just the last one which they moved into. The only real concern which I have here is that in the type of marketplace which we are in, trust and integrity is of paramount importance. As a result, as many board members have talked about before, potential and possibly even real conflicts of interest is of extreme importance here. Especially when internal operational decisions made by one subsidary can greatly affect the business interest of another subsidary.
  14. Well, talk about keeping ahead of inflation and getting good investment returns on your money. Plus the invaluable bonus of owing an absolutely gorgeous and stunner of a book to boot on top of all that.
  15. MAJOR congrats on that Tim! What a stunner!! And higher than the Larson and Church copies?!?!? Being the male chauvinist pig that I am and a fan of GGA cover art, I guess that cover image would have looked a lot better if it was scantily clad females on the belt being fed into the flaming pit of fire.
  16. Was going through the latest CC auction listings yesterday and was rather surprised that this book here is still the highest graded copy after all these years: Well, tied with two others as the highest graded copy, but I thought a higher graded copy would have surfaced by now after all these years. Looks like the purchaser of one of the other CGC 8.0 graded copies from Heritage back in 2016 must have gone after the upgrade (and must have failed) as its serial number is no longer in CGC's database. Must have incorrectly made the assumption that the upgrade would be a no-brainer as the final price paid was double condition guide at the time. Hard to tell which copy is actually nicer without having them in hand, but both copies appear relatively nice from a visual point of view relative to their assigned CGC grade: Hard to say, but the Chicago copy might stand a better chance for an upgrade even based upon a straight resub, considering it was graded way back back in 2005. Probably not worth chancing it though since it could also be knocked down a few pegs if it's got any of those near invisible tiny defects which you can't see from a simple scan, but which the graders are targeting nowadays.
  17. Well, if you was really really interested in that particular issue there, you could have invested your hard earned money for 12 more years and then simply fork over $16 more in 2014 for this particular copy of Boy Comics here: Also a CGC 9.0 graded copy, but doesn't have the same infamous history as the Church copy. I guess it would qualify now as one of the newly minted pedigrees since it was denoted as coming from the Collection of Harold Curtis when it first sold on Heritage for the grand sum of $334.60 back in 2006. It was then resold on Heritage in 2014 (exact same CGC serial number) for the much higher amount of $382.40 (boy, talk about inflation here ) when it was denoted as coming from the Dino Mauricio Golden Age Classic Cover Collection. Any bets the next time out, it'll be rebranded as a Harold Curtis pedigree copy in one of those newly minted black and white label slabs and will go for a whole lot more money.
  18. I guess I must have gone to the wrong location as when I went to Denver several years ago, the one which I ended up going to was pretty much a large size comic store, but nothing really that enormous as what I was expecting. I guess I should have done some Googling in advance of getting to Denver, but probably didn't know how to do it back in those days.
  19. wow... Mitch; Where was you in 2005 when this whole "opening of the kimono" was being revealed to us for the first time by boardies like Masterchief, Redhook, and even Danny Boy himself? A lot of fun and games or shall we say angst on the part of most board members here when their eyes were opened for the first time. Definitely not a case of proactive explanation fo changes to what was then thought to be previously long held established grading standards and restoration definitions within the hobby place, especially since it came like 5 years after CGC first opened their doors for business. If I remember correctly, the above chart is nothing more than a mere fraction of what ended up being revealed in that particular thread.
  20. Yup, and if that wasn’t enough who knows how motivated Archie collectors will be to pickup this book. I think it’s likely to go for big money... Steve; You've always have a sharp eye for quality and this is certainly no exception when it comes to this particular book here. Unfortunately (well, for me at least), you was bang on in terms of it going for big big money as it literally blew right past my max bid even though it was substantially higher than the ones I had placed on some of Jon Berk's HTF Centaur books. I guess the Edgar Church pedigree also didn't hurt and for myself personally, I always prefer books in the old label slabs, especially ones from CGC 's first year of existence like this particular copy here.
  21. Masterchief; Locked was not good enough, but they also had to go and delete the entire thread like it never even existed. I hope you aren't referring to the Manufactued Gold thread because that was a truly all-time classic thread in the sense of being a real eye opener which ended up providing us for the first time with an behind the scenes look at some of the shall we say "finer" points of CGC's undisclosed grading standards. That thread is such a valuable learning tool that it should probably be pinned to the top of all these boards here so that new members coming here can have a handy reference to learn about the finer intricacies of grading and how to maximize the value of their collection.
  22. Has the Church copy been graded, and if so, what is the grade? If it hasn't been, does anyone know what kind of grade it would get? Otherwise, I would never pay up massively for this copy on the basis that it's the one and only 9.4. Since the entire Phantom Lady run was not included in Chuck's Mile High Catalogue, I would have to assume that the entire run must have been grabbed by Burrell as part of his payment to load Chuck the $2K that he needed to acquire the Church Collection. If this is the case, it's probably locked up in somebody's private collection for the foreseeable future. Either that or it doesn't exist which I would find rather hard to believe, considering the Heritage archives indicates there is a Church copy of PL 16 which they auctioned off back in 2016.
  23. Sad to say, but I don't think the much younger inexperienced Canadian teenage girl stands much of a chance against the much older and more experienced Serena. Well, surprise, surprise............it looks like I was dead wrong here. Missed the whole match as I was out in the garden the whole afternoon, but based upon the scores, it looks like the Canadian teenager must have handily beat Serena.
  24. I asked nicely - so everyone be on their best behaviour Well, if that's all it took, can you please go back and ask them kindly if they can also unlock the granddaddy of them all, namely the Manufactured Gold thread? Or maybe we can just ask @MasterChief himself who had started the initial thread, especially since he seems to be patrolling these boards nowadays and he's also an absolute master at searching out these long gone dead threads. Or are we starting to head into no-no land and bad behavior territory here if we do this?
  25. Wowza...........I just can't believe the Mods would unlock this thread after banishing it to the penalty box the other month. Especially since they normally throw away the key after they banish a thread to the good old sin bin never to be heard from or seen ever again.
