  1. If the owners live in the United States, I believe you forgot to include Reason #3 which might just be the most important: 3) The step-up taxation provision which adjusts the value or cost basis of an inherited asset when it is passed on by the owner after death, which basically reduces or even eliminates any capital gains taxes owing on the sale of the inherited asset.
  2. That's odd, but the graders notes are listed on the HA listing for the item, which look accurate as far as what's visible in the scans. This rather strange and critical inconsistency in the CGC serial number for the Kansas City copy of Action Comics 1 was already alluded to in a post by our very own master sleuth hiself, i.e. @MasterChief, in the ASM 252 thread earlier last month:
  3. Well, it could also be the AI bubble gang as even only a couple thousand shares of Nvidia purchased back in 2016 would be more than enough to get you this Kansas City pedigree copy of Action 1.
  4. Like most of their auctions, the real action often doesn't tend to ramp up until the last day or so, and if it's a seldom seen book, in the last few hours and right through to their extended 3-minute bidding sessions. Like most of these HA and CC auctions, I won't be taking a close look until this coming weekend. Took a quick glance though and did noticed the low bids to this current point in time, with some 4-figure condition guide valuation books still sitting at only 2-figures for now. Then again, I've seen this before and should NOT get my hopes up too high since previous CC Event Auctions have had books sitting at these 2-figure amounts of $50 or so, only to see them finish up way above condition guide at price points like $2K to $3K. So, will be interesting to check this auction out this coming weekend and see what piques my interest and what the final results will be.
  5. Someone's gonna have to be a really really big Robin fan to pay that price....killer copy though. What was their asking price for this copy since I just clicked onto the link and it say that the book was either sold or is no longer available, with the latter being the most likely scenario that took place I would imagine?
  6. Like you had posted in another thread here...................crypto guys are just so 2022. Since it's now 2024, they probably belong in the trash heap along with the EV guys as it's all about the AI bubble guys this year.
  7. Totally agree with your POV here that with the tone of the Heritage interviews when the Promise Collection was first released, I got the impression there were clear and distinct implications being made that the Promise Collection was comparable to the Church Collection. Although I am sure that everybody has a different opinion on what took place, but I found this comparison to be rather absurb and really more hype than anything else with the sole purpose being to drive the resulting prices higher which they were more than successfully able to do. From my own personal point of view, if you really wanted to compare the Promise Collection to another comic book pedigree, then I would say that the Big Apple Collection, albeit in much higher condition grade, is a much better comparison. Especially when you consider the pre-dominant time period and pretty much no-name titles that the bulk of the Promise Collection encompassed which missed out on that entire early key GA years time period through to 1943 that the Church Collection is so noted and remembered for. Then again, how much hype can an auction house generate if it makes the claim that their newest collection is comparable to a high end version of the Big Apple Collection, as comparing it to the highly desired and unique Church Collection even though it didn't have A SINGLE ONE of the key early GA Church books in reasonable condition. By the second go round of resales, it was like the marketplace had finally come around to recognized the possibility that the emperor had no clothes.
  8. Thanks once again to @MasterChief for keeping this chart up-to-date for all of us boardies here. What I find interesting here is that out of the total of 322 Promise Collection books resold to date so far, comprised of 318 initially graded and slabbed with only 4 of them initially sold raw, there has been a total of only 6 regrades to date (i.e. 5 upgardes and 1 downgrade). Not sure what the percentage of regrades that normally takes place with CGC certified books that are sent back into the marketplace for resale, but if we are to believe all of the hype and talk here about CPR, then I would guess that the percentage of books sent in for regrading is substantially higher than the 1.88% (i.e. 6 regrades out of 318 certified books) that we are seeing here with the Promise resales. If this Promise Collection 1.88% resub/regrade rate is substantially below the normal percentage of books that undergo the CPR process before they are resold, it's certainly saying something about the perception of the grading that took place for the Promise books.
  9. Probably the same guy who paid $42K for a copy of Silver Surfer 9 back in February of 2021, so Silver Surfer 7 at only $24K a year later might just seem like a steal of a deal in comparison.
  10. Me too. 165 of them. It's a really good one. Amazing Man.......are some of the books offered. Alright, you guys convinced me to take a closer look and like you all said here, it's actually not too bad at all. Especially when you've got some "Amazing" Centaurs in there that's seldom seen in any grade right though to the short run titles like the HTF Whirlwind's that's actually in graded condition that we haven't seen come into the marketplace in years and well before the huge pandemic price boost.
  11. Looks like old slow Bob was a bit faster and up-to-date with his guide valuations than I had thought, as this result of $21,138 only had a multiple of a mere 62X his condition guide valuation of $339.50 for this CGC 3.5 graded copy of Our Flag #5. , at full condition guide valuation, that is.
  12. I can tell you must definitely enjoy being a masochist to want to go through the laborious and tedious pain and cost of trying to sell 3,000 $10 books as opposed to the simple, easy, and fast high of just selling one $30K book.
  13. Well, since Bitcoin is once again finally approaching near its all time highs, I guess it's the guys who are doing this Unless you are lucky enough to be one of the long time holders of Nivida stock and now counting the number of zero's in your portfolio account, as it has now vaulted past Google and Amazon all the way into the #4 position in terms of the most valuable companies in the U.S. behind only Microsoft, Apple, and Saudi Aramco and with possibly more growth potential than most of these other companies. Especially since a holding of a mere 300 shares back in 2016 valued at less than $10K would now have you looking at a cool million, although a million dollars today is certainly nothing like what old timers like us used to dream of having in the good old days when it really meant something. Especially when a million dollars wouldn't even come anywhere close to buying you a dilapidated ready to be torn down shack on the poor side of town nowadays.
  14. Yes, but it can't be anything as close to the questionable stories that you hear about the guys at the top of the food chain at Heritage.
  15. Well, I hope you do realize that Billy Wright auction took place way back in 2017 which is almost like a few lifetimes ago in this hyper red hot pandemic and crypto driven GA comic book marketplace of ours wich we have experienced during the past few years. Especially if you are talking about GA keys, classic covers, or HTF rare GA books that seldom come to market.
  16. Oh, come on now and that's hardly even noticeable, but most important of all, you DO realize that CGC never knows who the submittor(s) of the books are which allows them to give a truly independent and unbiased 3rd party grade for each book. Being a relative newbie to the boards here, that tiny little divot there is like a pimple compared to some of the cover to cover mouse chews that we have seen on some of the CGC 8.5's and 9.0's which coincidentally just happened to be submitted by Heritage.
  17. Well, it's quite possible that it might just have gone higher if they hadb using the CC 3-minute extended bidding format because the jump was from only the $28K price range with just a few last seconds left and go a certain percentage higher from that point.
  18. A clear reminder why I never bother to bid in CL auctions because you usually don't have the time to make a rational decision if you want to win because there are competing bidders out there throwing last second Hail Mary bids, as this copy of Police Comics 1 went from $28,250 all the way up to a winning bid of $40K in the LAST 4 SECONDS of the auction: https://www.comiclink.com/auctions/history.asp?item=1751205&back=%2Fauctions%2Fitem.asp%3Fback%3D%2FAUCTIONS%2FSEARCH.ASP%3FFocusedOnly%3D1%26where%3Dauctions%26title%3Dpolice%2Bcomics%2B1%26ItemType%3DCB%26CGC%3DYES%26CBCS%3DYES%23Item_1751205%26id%3D1751205%26itemType%3D0 I much prefer the CC auction format with the 3-minute extended bidding format whereby you have the actual time to rationalize whether you should hit the next bid increment or not.
  19. Are you the consignor or are you thinking of bidding for it as no scans should be good enough to scarce away any competing bids?
  20. Well, a simple solution to this would be to crack them out and besides avoiding the counterfeit problems, also gain the additional benefits of having them encased in a beautiful glossy mylar holder along with the ability to hold them in your hand and enjoy the books the way they were meant to be enjoyed.
  21. Only scam free safe graded bets like uber HG copies of Spidey 252, Spidey 300, Hulk 181, X-Men 94 and preferably signed ones at that.
  22. Another possible factor might be the thinking by many that CL is not necessarily the best comic book auction platform when it comes to your higher end GA books as there are a couple of other auction houses out there that have a strong GA clientale.
  23. Could this be the result of an incompetent and bad pressing job by the newbie boys over at CCS now that the Master himself is no longer doing the actual pressing work since he has moved onwards and upwards to greener pastures?
  24. Hey Win; Totally agree with your post here. BTW: You really need to grace us here with your presence more often and also on more happier occasions as the last time you posted here was with respect to the passing of our own long time boardie and fellow collector, Jon Berk. I really miss your posts and your wealth of knowledge here, with the perfect example being the Windex Scarcity Index for somne of the various titles that you used to do for us here.
