  1. I assume one of the other auction sites you are referring to would be CC here? The only problem is that its almost the exact opposite with them, whereby their scans oftentimes tend to make the book look so horrid, when in actual fact they are much better looking in hand. Definite advantage to the bidders here.
  2. I think yur total number of slabbed Tec 27 and Supes 1 are actually far apart. If I recall correctly there are double the number of total Supes 1’s or close to it Just checked the census and you are correct here. Looks like the 'Tec 27 has a total of 68 graded copies while the Supes 1 has a total of 147 slabbed copies, with slightly less than half of both of those totals being universal copies.
  3. I believe you are referring to this copy here then: https://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?id=676931 Sold for $54,010 and this was back in the Spring of 2017. Without this sale on CC, I believe Bob's copy wouldn't have sold as it apparently sold within the hour of the CC auction result.

  5. Yes, if the auction software is working properly, this means that there should have been 2 bidders that would have made the same typo in terms of incorrectly adding in an extra zero at the end of their bid.
  6. I would agree with you on your point about AA 16. If you are opening this question up to the entire hobby, as opposed to just GA, then how about slotting AF 15 into your #5 spot? If not, I would stick with MC 1 because it'll eventually get its day back in the sun. Similar in vein to how FF1 is now finally once again a hot SA book after sitting pretty much in deep freeze for the longest while. After all, MC is truly the first Marvel comic book out there.

  11. Frank Frazetta should always hold the top spot as the best comic artist. Like I had mentioned a few weeks ago in the HA thread on the GA boards, it didn't even come close to Roy Lichtenstein's Masterpiece: Looks like Frazetta's Egyptian Queen still fell about $160M dollars short of what Lichtenstein's Masterpiece sold for.

Much like the Berk auction, maybe a case of too much to spread around the first go, then war chests get replenished and that second or third highest bidder snags it the next go round at a higher price Prices are definitely much more muted if you have an auction that's populated with 60+ Church Planet books, as opposed to an auction that has only 2 of the Church Planet's in the auction. Potential bidders are not tempted to bid as high in the former because if they miss one of the Church Planet's, there's another 60+ other copies which they can bid on. Definitely not the case in the latter auction. It also certainly helps when the 2 Church Planet's are segregated out and highlighted in the Platinum Session of the auction which is much more high profile and tends to draw the eyeballs with the deep pockets. Third point is that Spring and Summer auctions historically tends to do better than December Winter auctions from my personal point of view.

  14. Well, it's quite possible that the book didn't receive a 9.9 grade on each of its resubs. The only one that counts is the last resub and I am quite sure that he must have "maximize the potential" of the book before resubbing it on the last go round.
  15. +3 Doesn't matter whose signatures are on this particular copy here. The book definitely looks defaced from all of the multiple scrawls on the cover here. But then again, it's really a case of to each, their own.

And dropping it into a "universal holder" is the final slap on the face to any potential buyer who may not be as educated or knowledgeable about vintage comics as most of the people posting here. Hey Jay; Take a look at this "fraudulent" book here: As you have correctly (or is it incorrectly ) stated here, another perfect example of a "final slap to any potential buyer who may not be as educated or knowledgeable about vintage comics" as the board members here. And it's actually been slabbed by the host grading company here. Go figure that!!!
  17. No,it's the exact opposite. The lack of value for a particular comic will definitely affect how many gets graded (or not graded) at CGC.
  18. ...and now that I know this is in fact from a bound edition (and obviously trimmed), and was stapled together after it was pulled from it's original bindings, I am even more shocked and appalled by the joke grade and label that CBCS gave this book. But then again, that is basically why people use Voldy for books like this at this point. -J. Oh Jay.............give it up. You can't fooled us anymore as we know you simply love not only this particular copy, but also the label that it's been slabbed with. After 5 pages of your over done vitriol here, it's quite obvious that your ploy is to simply scare away all of the other potential bidders from this book so that you can scoop it up on the cheap. Clever plan, except I don't think it's going to work this time.
  19. All I do is look at my hands. If there's more than a handful in total on the CGC population census report, than it's not considered to be rare. If there's more than two handfuls in total on the census, then it's not considered to be even scarce in my book. Of course, that's my own personal criteria for determining if a book is rare or even scarce. I am sure that everybody would have their own threshold levels though. On the other hand, a low census count could simply mean that collectors perceive no demand for a particular book and hence this could be the reason why nobody bothers to slab them.
  20. I like the confidence! Heritage certainly loves it. Let's hope HA and CGC doesn't share info due to their overlapping ownership structure, otherwise, there could be some punishment bid taking place here.
  21. Well, the most important thing is for both you and your family to get out safely in the event of a fire. Unlike the recent Russian airplane crash whereby some of the selfish and idiotic passengers were so busy trying to take their carry on out of the overhead bins that they ended up blocking the aisle which prevented the passengers behind from getting out of the airplane in time.
  22. Sorry to hear about the $500 loss on your mistake here. I would have to admit that the design for the label from the other company is absolutely horrid and bland as bland can be. I think they really need to hire themselves a good graphic designer who can add a bit of punch to that label to make it look at least appealing so that potential buyers would not want that slab as part of their collection, regardless of the actual book insider the holder. On the topic of an uni-color label, it only makes sense if it comes along with a formal and easy to comprehend restoration rating system, similar to the 10-point grading system currently in place for the evaluating the condition of a book.

Or it could probably also have been nothing more than a case of Danny (like any other dealer) trying to flip a book to Fishler since I believe that Metro must have been one of the more high profile and up and coming dealers at the time. Either way, it looks like you should have stuck with the original deal with Danny in this one particular case. Especially since you would most likely be ahead with the beat up restored Bat 1 considering the way that GA keys have moved over the past 30+ years, as compared to the pre-hero books which have certainly been nothing to write home about.
  24. That was my point above. Why is it that when I intentionally remove a piece of a comic, it's restoration and a 'negative' action, but when CGC does it that's a positive action that turns a PLOD to a Blue? Especially if it's positive to the point that it still manages to receive the same grade as it had when the tear seal was still there. Talked to somebody today who submits to CGC on a regular basis and he was happily surprised to see his former relatively HG Timely PLOD come back in a blue Universal slab in the exact same grade as before. Especially since he had sent it back to CGC/CCS for restoration removal and the book now had a tiny piece missing as they had simply cut away the tear seal. Like Tim would say or words to this effect...............Man, I love this hobby.
