  1. There always seems to be so much attention paid to the racial overtones with respect to the Star 3 cover. Yet, we don't seem to see nowhere close to the same amount of attention being paid to Funny Picture Stories #7 which I guess is the poor man's version of Star Comics 3. Especially when it also has a cover with similar racial overtones. Plus the fact that the census population indicates that it is just as rare as Star 3 and especially impossible to find in grade.
  2. Sounds as though you are thinking about the CL or eBay auction formats here where an auction ends precisely at it's SPECIFIED end and no more time is extended after that. This type of auction format definitely encourages snipe bidding in order to win the lot and something I personally stay far away from. Both of the Heritage and CC auction formats works on the concept of bidding until there are no further bids. In fact, with CC's 3-minute extended bidding time periods, it's quite common that the serious bidding on a lot doesn't actually take place until the end of the auction and the 3-minute bell kicks in. Actually, it's quite common on the classic covers or HTF books to double or even triple during CC's extended bidding time periods. I've seen some books run for half a hour over their supposedly auction end.
  3. Paging Tim who will have absolutely no problems debating this point with you.
  4. Well, with the results of both the CL and now the CC auctions out of the way, it would appear that IM 55 is most definitely trending down from where it was over the past couple of years. 🙁
  5. Not sure if too many has actually depreciated in value, but like another member said here the other day, there are still quite a few GA titles or publishers that are a bit on the "cool" side. Even if you look at today's auction, just take at look at the 2 relatively early Target super hero books. With only a few hours left to go, the Rockford pedigree is still sitting there well below $100, while the non-pedigree copy can be had for less than $50. Althought it's always fun to talk about the 2nd or even 3rd tier GA record setters going for 5 figures, there are still others that have a problem even cracking 3 figures sometimes.
  6. Peter; How close are you to completing your pre-Robin 'Tec run now?
  7. Has anybody else looked at the Iron Man 55 CL auction results from last week yet? Just curious as there were about 6 of them in there with the CGC 9.6 copy going for around $3K, the CGC 9.4's going just over $2K, and the CGC 9.0's going for around $1,300. The lone CGC 8.5 seem to have come in a tad low at only $901, but it did have that fugly terrible looking wrap on it. I thought these prices would have been slightly higher considering that the Avengers 3 movie is due to come out in the next month or so. Then again, I guess this is pretty much old news and probably already built into the price of the books for awhile now. I guess we'll see how the ones do in the CC Auction later this evening, although they do seem to be running quite a bit behind the CL results right now. Of course, with CC's auction format, all of the fun and fireworks to watch tends to take place at the end of their auctions during the 3-minute extended bidding time periods.
  8. You've got outstanding taste as the Funny Pages 40 is definitely the best cover in the entire FP run. Had the high bid in on that book off and on over the past couple of weeks, but sadly not anymore. As for what's coming up in this evening's session, since I am an equal opportunity GA collector, we should not forget about some of those juicy and rather nice looking Nedors (i.e. Exciting's) and Fiction House (i.e. Fight and Jungle's) books. Especially in terms of the tempting price points where they are sitting at right now.
  9. I did. I wrote up why a little while ago. TL/DR; I was bored with collecting long runs, 1100+ graded comics was too many for me to handle, and seemed like it would be fun. It was. Read your background story and I can certainly understand your sentiments in terms of putting a decade long quest of your cherished books back into the marketplace. Amazing fortitude on your part and congrats on your big sale.
  10. Hate to be the bearer of bad news here, but I think you are going to have to sell more body parts than just your liver if you want to get either one of those 2 books. I was reading an article on organ harvesting in China from the Epoch Times recently, and from their valuation metric, even if you sell every organ in your body it would not be enough for the Action 1. How many other members do you have in your family?
  11. Well, in some cases I would have to say that Crime Does Pay: Especially when this copy of Crime Mysteries #4 managed to fetch $7,400. Okay, I'll have to admit there's probably also a bit of horror on this cover with respect to the blood draining. Well, I guess it's the best of both worlds then.
  12. Greatly appreciate all of the feedback from everybody here on the boards with respect to this apparently HTF crime book. Since you wanted to hear how it turned out. It's quite obvious that my friend did not get the book in the end as one of the boardies in the CC Event Auction thread just posted a scan of this book stating that he was the lucky winner of this book and the only book that he was really trying to acquire in this go round. I am 100% sure that my buddy must have dropped out well before the end of the auction for this particular book as it ended up going for $2,371 by the time it was all said and done.
  13. I'm glad you're enjoying the thread! Oh wow, a dinosaur cover.........even if they don't look like very scary dinosaurs.
  14. Wow, fantastic pickup of what sounds to be a really tough book to find, especially in anything close to this grade for what is apparently a real HTF 100 pager squarebound book. Certainly can't go wrong when there's only 2 in the census with the other copy being only a CGC 3.5 graded copy. Personally, it saves me a bit of time from having to contact my friend to check to see if he had won the book since he had also expressed an interest in it. I should phone him anyways just to bug him, because I bet that he probably dropped out well before it got close to this final price. Come to think of it, he's the type that dithers around so much that he probably couldn't even make up his mind whether he should bid on it or not.
  15. Cool. I have either a 6.0 or 6.5 (can’t remember). Glad there’s good demand Like anything else though, you need to have a bit of luck sometimes. If you check the Heritage archives, you'll notice that a CGC 6.0 graded copy sold for $2,868 back in November of 2016. They were then able to sell a raw VG+ copy for a shade under $1,800 back in October of 2017. And yet, only a few short months later in February of 2018, they were able to sell another CGC 6.0 graded copy, but this time for only $1,314.50. Same thing with CC as their archives indicated they sold a CGC 4.5 graded copy for $1,450 back in March of 2017. Unfortunately, the winner must have decided to resell it as this exact same copy sold for only $1,263 in CC's December 2017 Event Auction. A check of the CL Exchange indicates only 1 CGC 6.0 graded copy selling for $2,100. Hmmm..........interesting since this one appears to be the Heritage copy that had sold for $2,868 back in 2016 and now resubbed back into CGC and regraded in January of 2018. Looks like the original Heritage purchaser must have lost money in terms of both the resub related fees and lower auction result on the second go round with CL. That's why I said the prices on this book appears to be like a yo-yo, but the CC consignor seems to have cashed in on the upswing this time with what appears to be a record price for this grade.
  16. All I can say is that your definition of "a little more" is quite different from my definition of "a little more". Maybe we should take a survey here: Who else here says that $7,400 is just "a little more" than $450?
  17. Great pick up Sha ..(and remember you promised me a seat. Sugar cookies ) +1 It's never a bad idea to pick up books like these old time favorites at a reasonable price when a good portion of the market seems to have gone ballistics. Congrats on picking up another DC beauty to add to your personal collection.
  18. I think you've got to start wearing more than 2 diapers for some of these auction results here. Either that or have a whole pack of them ready to change out whenever you see a result like this Batman 7 or the ones with respect to Blue Beetle 54, Blue Bolt 115, and the likes. As for me, I ended up missing all of the fun and action once the middle of the B's started because I had to drive my daughter and son-in-law back home once they came back from snow boarding over their extended weekend.
  19. Wow, those L.B. Cole Blue Bolt horror covers are going for some real big dollars. I guess you just can't go wrong with one of these L.B. Cole classic covers in today's scorching red hot marketplace.
  20. Hehe So, it's all your fault as you are the culprit that causing all of these astronomical prices in the Centaurs. Like buttock said, you better start bidding on them again.
  21. I thought they didn't ding for those? Maybe they don't if it's below a certain grade or if it's part of a pedigree designation. I am not really that sure myself since I don't really follow all of the detailed grading nuances and changes that takes place over time. All I know is that I would much rather prefer a Church book with the coded dates on the cover as opposed to one without the markings. Ahhh........a Edgar Church copy!!!
  22. At least you and I do. Maybe the graders consider it to be a defect and the book would have graded slightly higher without it.
  23. Well, all I can say is that this one here is already motoring right along: This book here seems to have been bouncing up and down like a yo-yo the past few years. Looks like this is on another uptick on this go-round since it's already at $2K with a hour and a half left until the real action starts. Makes me wonder where it's going to end this time.
  24. Well, my bad then...........if you want a bigger value book, then how about this one here: And if that one there doesn't rock your boat, how about going for this big enchilada then: Always glad to help a new board member out.
  25. Not me. I didn't know Rick was selling his Centaurs until three days ago. Obviously you are not spending enough time on the boards here then. Well, at least you arrived just in time to watch all of the fireworks here for the rest of this week.
