  1. Don't you just absolutely hate it with all of these auctions taking place, that it's simply impossible to keep track of them all. Especially when you end up not only missing out on an auction entirely, but also on what must surely be a treasured grail in every collector's fantasy dream world: https://comics.ha.com/itm/magazines/miscellaneous/nintendo-power-1-nintendo-of-america-inc-1988-newsstand-edition-cgc-98-nm-mt-white-pages/a/7307-28080.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 Now, if I had only known about this book before the auction, this single highest graded beauty out of 241 sabbed copies would already be winging its way towards my personal collection by now. Either that or the lucky winning bidder who must be jumping for joy by now would surely have ended up paying a whole lot more instead of getting this at a steal of a deal for only peanuts at a mere $108,000.
  2. Well, either that or if she's really upset with you, she could place a ton of record setting bids for you on some worthless drek books, which would definitely be another story there.
  3. I guess no real surprise there as I remember watching TV from back then and Westerns were definitely the hot flavor of the day at the time, but clearly not so by the time the 60's came to a end.
  4. With GA prices where they are today, I am actually much more tempted to sell a few of my books, as opposed to adding to my personal collection. Now, if prices were cheaper, then it'd be a completely different story though.
  5. I am quite sure his collecting got quite sporadic near the end as it looks like he didn't have any of the early SA DC keys even though his collection is listed as running from 1937 through to 1957. Even with this Mask Raider here, it looks like Chuck's Mile High Catalog lists the only copies as being issues #2 and #4 of the run with both of them in NM+ condition at $3 each.
  6. No problemo at all. Most probably somehwere in the '79 time frae as the 1979 Overstreet Guide has the AF 15 valuations set at $150/$300/$450 and then a full double the following year in 1980 at $300/$600/$900.
  7. I’m at work right now to look but this site has PG #7 at $85., $170., $255. (G-Fn-M). Yes, that Porky Pig cover by Barks was my first price guide that I had ever brought and read through until it was all worn out. Looks like the long held Overstreet pricing spread at 1-2-3 and you are indeed correct as the PG #7 has it at $85., $170., and $255.
  8. Any bets that the consignor of this copy here that sold for $1,440 is not totally jumping for joy even though it is $125 higher than what they had paid for the exact same copy over 5 years ago back in early 2018: https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/romance/cindy-comics-37-timely-1949-cgc-fn-60-off-white-pages/a/40221-83006.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 Especially since copies in this grade range were already selling in the $3K to $4K range even during pre-pandemic times, with one CGC 6.0 graded copy (albeit a much nicer presenting copy) topping out at $4,200 in late 2019 and well before anybody was locked down with nothing at all to do. Interesting to note that this book here was actually the #3 book in terms of prices realized in the just completed Timeless Good Girl Art Showcase Auction this past Thursday, with only the lead promo book for the auction (i.e. a CGC 7.5 graded copy of Tessie The Typist #1) being able to fetch over $2K as it finished up at $5,520. With all of these Showcase Auctions in addition to their Signature Auctions and their now expanded 3-day weekly auctions, although I am sure this do wonders for their gross auction sales, I am not so sure it's necessarily producting the best individual results for their consignors. Especially with some of the seemingly underperforming results we've seen with some of their Showcase Auction books.
  9. As for this copy of More Fun 45 here, even though it's graded higher and clearly presents much more nicer than the Good copy that had sold for $4,800 last year, I somehow suspect it's going to have a tough time getting back to this same price range or anywhere close to 20X condition guide. Will definitely be interesting to watach and see the final score here though.
  10. Yeah, saw this in my email earlier this morning and had to Google where it was and I imagine this is a nice place for some rest and relaxation funded in part by Uncle Sam and his taxpayers.
  11. Are you really to convince us here this wouldn't have happened without the new ownership group in place? If so, all you need do is look at their history of price increases and it's quite evident that these were a regular ongoing feature even with the old ownership group.
  12. Well, the other big positive out of this is that you can now spend a lot more loving time with your books as your inventory holding time will increase exponentially as a result of your price increases.
  13. Now, that's definitely a nice big big smile from your ever loving Chuckles in all her glory. Maybe this is where they got the idea for Mrs. Doubtfire or is it the other way around.
  14. Now this is about the most succinct and accurate statement that I've seen written about Chuckles anywhere.
  15. This is the one and only single reason that I see for collectors to get their books graded and slabbed before it comes time to sell them.
  16. Don't go there with this amount of details. By still showing so much bottom line profit on your end, you are just encouraging these porkers to waddle their way back to the trough again to take another bigger bite out from your wallet. Yum, yum, oink, oink, oink..........
  17. Well, that's probably because they are too busy decreasing them, as clearly evident by dropping the Walkthough value limit of $3K down to only $1K in their new Unlimited tier. Instead of an increase, you should be jumping for joy that they didn't drop the value limit for the Modern tier from $400 down to something like $200 or even $100. Actually, that might not be a bad idea at all, or even better yet, change the Modern grading fee to something like 10% of FMV with say a minimum fee of $100 and that should take care of all of their TAT probllems.
  18. So, are you saying they should have really rename their former Walkthrough tier as the BendOverBob tier or the Fu*kYou tier as that certainly does sound a lot more appropriate with this kind of price increases at the higher end?
  19. Are we talking about the current edition of the Overstreet guide from last year here? Which mainstream major titles are you referring to that had reduced prices in the 2022 guide as compared to the 2021 guide?
  20. Yes indeed, as I clearly remember these old used books stores with some of them carrying used comics for 5 cents back in the 60's. I remember my favorite being Evelyn's Book Shelf where my brothers and I would have to ride our bike right across to the west side of the city. My favorite because they would have the Marvel super hero books at times and all at 5 cents a piece. Looking back, definitely not the wisest move as I simply should have paid a few pennies more and gotten the brand new copies off the shelves of the local grocery stores instead of old beater copies for half price. At least not as bad as my two brothers who were into the Westerns as they were just so popular on TV at the time. Unfortunately, now virtually worthless in today's super hero-centric marketplace and now nowhere else for a few large orange boxes full of Western comics except for him to reread them and then to toss them into the recycle bin or drop them off at the local community dropoff box hoping that somebody else might pick them up to read. Although now worthless comic books from back in those days, but still priceless childhood memories of days long gone by.
  21. Well, that was when the editorship of mag was already taken over by Russ Cochran and needless to say, it was a mere shadow of its former self when it was run by the Carter's. Totally not worth reading by then and I was just glad when they put it to its final death as that was just a slow tortuous death under Cochran.
  22. You are 110% dead on right when it comes to the Comic Book Marketplace magazine, especially with respect to the firsr 20 or so issues which were totally done by the Carters before Geppi ended up buying and taking over the magazine. I remember calling Gary at the time to start my subscription with issue #2 and he was so nice that he said he would send me a copy of the first issue free of charge since he didn't want me to miss any of them. An absolutely amazing and informative magazine for newbies who wanted to learn about GA books and I clearly remember checking my mail box back then in great anticipation of the receiving the next issue to read from cover to cover. Who can forget those wonderful articles like the "50 Rarest Golden Age Comic Books", "The First 1,000 Comic Books", focus on specific publishers like Centaur Comics, artists like Schomburg, pedigrees like the 4-issues articles on the Church pedigree, along with articles and charts on the Relative Scarcity and Demand for specific SA DC titles.
  23. Yep, I used them so much that the dust jackets ended up being all ripped up and torn from simple wear and tear over the first few years. I remember ordering a second set of the dust jackets back then along with the prints for the 2-page set for the covers of 'Tec 1-32 because I just absolutely loved the covers to those books back then, with the only problem now being I have absolutley no idea where I put them.
  24. I believe all buyers of the PhotoJournal Vol 1 noticed the Suspense 3 frontispiece right off the bat when they first started to go through the book. I remember talking to Magik on quite a few occasions and he always mentions how he ended up having to pay Gerber 10X top of guide back then for that copy of Suspense 3 before he would finally let it go.
  25. I very much highly doubt that old Bob would ever feel comfortable with dropping prices in his guide because it goes right against his nature. I also very much doubt they would pay any attention at all or even read the threads on these boards here and would be totally shocked if they did. I was reading through the market reports now before the new edition of the guide comes out. It is definitely kind of passe how all of the advisors are saying how hot the SA to CA market was in 2021 and wondering if it was going to be sustainable. Well, I guess they got their answer and it's clearly one that they don't like. Perfect example being that all of the advisors were raving about hot super hot AF 15 was and with it being by far the top book out there, thinking it would continue to go up forever non-stop. Yet, as we all know, now the sentiment has reversed itself completely with collectors wondering when it will stop falling as it continues to move downwards in price.
