  1. When you say this, are you thinking more from the point of view of being a bidder, as opposed to being a consignor?
  2. Hey ... don't quote this one!! Quote my more recent " boy was I wrong" and "sucks for selling his other ww1s"...yeesh kick a man when he's down Oh, now I see that one by going back into the thread. Shows you that your memory tends to become selective as you start to get up there in age.
  3. Any thoughts as to whether these auctions might have ended higher if they had been using CC 3-minute extended time bidding format, especially with how bids were coming in on these 3 books in the final minute. Did they simply run out of time before they got everybody's final top end bids in?
  4. Well, unfortunately for Adams, it looks like this theory got shot down as Pristine had to absorb a pretty sizeable loss in order to put themselves in a position to offer up the trifecta of WW books.
  5. Congrats on finally being able to snag a nice copy of this gorgeous and classic cover book as I know you've been trying to acquire one for awhile now. Most definitely a real beauty and very well done!!!
  6. Thank you. I just hope to learn about this era of comics some more. I have mostly been a silver/bronze collector, but love the overall artwork of some of the golden age books. I have alot to learn about this time frame. Wow, Cap 4 is a wonderful way to start off your GA collection and you'll definitely learn a lot by spending time here on the GA boards. Congrats again on your pickup and welcome to the boards here.
  7. Well, instead of a few fun books, I hope you really meant that you got some More Fun books?
  8. I believe it's still too early in the grading game to draw any definitive conclusions as to the actual scarcity of HG copies. Were the All-Star books not considered to be the go to run to collect with the early GA collectors and you was not deemed to be a true GA collector unless you had the All-Stars in your collection? Definitely not the case anymore although if this thinking was actually out there in the old days, than there might be a number of nice raw AS 8's still out there sitting in private collections waiting for the right time to be graded.
  9. Or maybe as8 sold too high? +1 Exactly my thinking also as compared to what the other 2 books sold for, especially with respect to the Sensation 1 which from my point of view is the tougher book to find and yet was in the highest grade out of the 3 of them.
  10. Looks like the AS 8 did a $300,000 bump for a 50% increase in the last hour and a half of the bidding. Wonder if the WW 1 will be able to do an 100% increase in this same wind down to the auction or it's going to be a loss leader that Adams will have to absorb.
  11. Actually, it finished a lot higher than where I thought it would. Looks like the winning bidder did not show up until the last half hour of the auction.
  12. No, these boards were really on the skids and losing active members well before the upgrade took place. Unfortunately, I am in full agreement with the following post as this place seems relatively dead as compared to before:
  13. I wished! Clearly you must have confused me with somebody else since my personal collecting went straight from current CA and current/back issue BA books at the time, followed by an immediate jump back to the pre-GA time period before settling in on the GA books and missed the SA time period completely. So, unfortunately no AF 15 or anything even close to that in my personal collection, nor will there ever be at these stratospheric prices. Heck, even if they were at 10% of these prices, I would probably not be interested in spending that kind of money on this book from a collecting point of view, and would only be interested in it from a reselling point of view. Being the El Cheapo that I am, I was never into paying premium dollars for SA books which I thought was available everywhere, as long as you was willing to open up your wallet for them. Much more interested in the early HTF GA books and especially the ones with the classic covers or the extremely rare ones that have less than a handful in the CGC census report.
  14. By the way that behaived there was at least one high autobid that had been sitting there, and one or more people tried to snipe in a final high bid. Instead of having this auction end in a last second snipe fest with what happens on eBay and CL auctions, I think it would be a lot more fun and interesting to watch it in the CC auction format with the 3-minute extended time period bidding process.
  15. She's a redhead looker, Lou. Seriously. Not sure why she married me. I think she may have mental problems. Gotta watch out for those redheads as they are no dummies after all. She's probably really after all of your books and that's her real end game.
  16. Now I can fully understand why your wife yells at you.
  17. Still waiting to hear the rest of your story or is your wife stay yelling at you even now? Or do we need to call 911 at this time?
  18. Hope you win it @ $44 You must mean $343. For batman_fan's sake, we should stop talking about this book here since it has almost doubled in price from earlier this afternoon.
  19. i can’t see the mystery men 3 that you guys keep talking about. Well Tim, of course not. With your discerning eyes and impeccable taste, the only Mystery Men 3 that your brain could ever process would be this one here: http://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?referral=EAlist&id=713086&title=MYSTERYMEN COMICS You would never be able to see this other copy that only mere mortals like us with our failing eyes could see hiding at the bottom of the barrel: http://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?id=716460
  20. Without a doubt, life changing money is as stake here. Very cool stash!! As my better half and her nattering friends would constantly remind me, I guess it really depends on where you live. Probably good enough for an older house on the poor side of town, but all 3 of those books wouldn't even get you a shack on the entire west side of the city here. But to a true comic collector like us, what you've got there is a real treasure trove.
  21. +1 Can't blame you at all for not being able to say NO to this book here. Basically a clean cover with some nice beautiful colors in there to top it off.
  22. Although I haven't paid much attention to CC auctions before the Berk auction, is this the norm as the medium dollar value for this auction so far is only at a lowly $44 after almost a whole week of bidding? I certainly don't believe this was anywhere close to being the case for the Berk auction at this same point in time. Tim; There's always a silver lining in every cloud though. Since you was the winner of the Church copy on the last go round, it looks like you can possibly pick up a reader copy of the same Mystery Men 3 book for only $185: http://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?id=716460 Besides the Fantastic 3 which is already up there in price, it looks like MM 3 is still the go to book in the Fox stable as all of the other early Mystery Men and Wonderworld books (including Wonder 2) ranging in grade from low grade through to CGC highest graded copy are still well behind the MM3 and sitting at only double digits or barely cracking the $100 mark. Maybe some fox hunting would be good around this time of year, as it's been a long time for me.
  23. Underbidder still could have won, but now it would be up to the 3rd place bidder to get it to the $10K area again. Saw this very real phenomena happen recently with a Japanese movie poster called Horror of the Wolf. There have been a couple of very aggressive new poster buyers on the Yahoo Japan auction site. When the first copy of this poster appeared in May it sold for ¥121,000 (about $1100 US), to one of the two. When the seller listed a second copy the following week the underbidder purchased it for only ¥15,500 (about $140 US) because the third place bidder in the original auction dropped out at ¥15,000. The seller listed another and the third place bidder of the first auction was the only bidder at ¥11,000. The last couple of copies he has listed haven't even cracked the $50 barrier. (This was an uncommon poster prior to these sales, but obviously the seller has found some unused examples from an old theater.) Yes, I still remembered bidding on some of the Centaurs in the Jon Berk auction a few months ago. Although most of them went for big money, it was clear to me that on some of the ones that I was bidding on that the last 40% or so of the final price was just a bidding war between the underbidder and myself only. Yes, very tough to find books, but also seemingly a relatively thin market on some of them.
  24. Since Richard has already placed his winning bid a long time ago, the real question to ask is how much is the under bidder willing to go up to in order to activate the winning bid?
  25. You guys are nothing but a bunch of troublemakers here, especially since I was hoping to snap that book up for only $24. Well, I guess I'll have to downgrade and go for those Centaurs, Wonder Woman's, and highest graded EC's that's still sitting there in the dollar bins. Just don't go letting anybody else know about these books.
