  1. Based upon auction results the past few months, I would have to say the marketplace is slowly also starting to come around to your line of thinking as prices have indeed increased sharply on the 'Tec 29 offerings as of late. This is especially evident with the nicely presenting relative to its assigned CGC 3.0 graded copy that sold for $66K in the CC auction back in March of this year.
  2. I would say that similar to some of the other DC GA books which were once undervalued a few years ago such as More Fun 73 and the Wonder Woman books, they have all enjoyed a significant increase in valuation. This is especially true in terms of the MF 73 and the 3 key WW books due to the impact of their related movie and TV hype. Probably not so much for Detective 38 due to Robin being seen as the turning point where Batman went from being dark and cool to being more family oriented and boring. Yet the significance of Detective 38 has finally been recognized during the past couple of years as their valuation on a price per point basis has gone steadily upwards from something like $5K per point to something like $9K per point. We even had one sale on CC in March whereby a nicely presenting relative to its assigned 3.0 grade managed to hit just over $54K or a price per point of $18K per point. This was followed within the hour by somebody apparently hitting the BIN button on another CGC 3.0 graded copy at something like $35K or $36K on Bob Storm's website. No idea if these last 2 sales were outliers or just indications of what is to come in the years going forward.
  3. Snazzy idea! Except that there's no 6-month payment plan to spread the pain this time... Sounds as though you must be a masochist who enjoys a good, steady, and consistent stream of pain. Well, I am sure if you contact them and let them know that you would be willing to go as high as 5-figures on this book here, they will be sure to happily put in the 6-month payment plan option for you. Ok, maybe they'll even be willing to do it just for you if you go as high as mid-four figures. Seriously though, they probably simply haven't gotten around to fine-tuning all of their listings yet, since there's still another 2 whole months to go. They haven't even inserted the payment plan option on their Fantastic 3 and Pep 22 listings yet either.
  4. The fly in the ointment is still the one that sold for $26k with "white pages" on the label after this one.... -J. Actually, I think this only goes to confirm DK's point about the supple pages as I believe there's a well respected esteemed board member here who places White Pages at the bottom of the PQ scale when it comes impact on valuation.
  5. Yes, it's like how the housing market was here last year whereby a house that was initially sold for $3.2M dollars was then flipped 4 times within less than 2 years before finally being sold for something like $7.6M dollars. Everybody likes a good news story about making fast and easy money and that's why boardies love to talk about sales of AF 15's on the boards here, while I have to listen to everybody over here in real life and on the local news talk about nothing but non-stop accelerating real estate prices every single hour of the day for the past few years.
  6. I guess we would have to wait for Gator's response since he was the one that was actually asking the question.
  7. Or you could also try and nab the MM 11 which is available in the upcoming CC auction, and which I often refer to as the poor man's version of MM 10, and then try to do the same thing. Especially since half your work would already be done since although it is the highest graded copy, it is at least a nameless copy which has already been de-identified for you. Although it's probably best to do it before Ritter gets around to it because as we can see here, Ritter is pretty fast at the draw when it comes to doing this kind of thing.
  8. Berks 6.0 and the qualified .5 are only 2 certified copies. I think I will send in mine and make it 3 You should probably consider doing it with all of your Star Comics with the low census counts because there's a few of them with only 2 or 3 copies listed on the census report, especially if they have a shot at hitting top of census.
  9. That's is certainly one of the problems with the Denver books since they do not have any distinguishing marks or identification codes on them. Not sure if there would be more than 1 copy of a particular book in the Denver Collection since it was such a small collection as it is made up of only about 153 individual books. I assume the best person to check with would be Payette since he was the guy who discovered the original collection and might have notes for the individual books. I believe there is a similar thing with the Denver Mystery Men 1 since Steve Carey owns the Denver 1 and yet the Overstreet copy which was pictured as part of the Diamond Int'l Galleries Grand Opening brochure also identifies that copy as being the Denver copy. With Bob and Geppi though, they just had so many books at the time that they probably simply mixed it up with one of the other pedigrees.
  10. Why not on the Pep 22, guys? Because the current CC copy is only a CGC 8.0 graded copy and there is a much higher still to be graded Church copy of Pep 22 just waiting out there.
  11. Discussed from what perspective? Everybody seems to agree that it belongs in one of these top tiers, but still don't see it anywhere except for one mention that it might be a Tier 6 book. Personally, I would take it over any of the books listed in Tier 4 or even Tier 3.
  12. What makes you say this? For example, in a follow-up CC auction only a few months later, an equivalently CGC 1.0 graded copy of 'Tec 31 sold for something like $17K lower: http://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?referral=EAlist&id=667399&title=DETECTIVECOMICS And in only a few short months after that, a CGC 2.0 graded copy (with Brittle pages) sold for even lower than the CGC 1.0 graded copy: http://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?referral=EAlist&id=691089&title=DETECTIVECOMICS
  13. So, since you've completed the Weird Fox run, I guess it means you won't be chasing after the slew of Weird books that CC has available in their upcoming Event Auction. Makes it easier for the rest of the potential bidders then.
  14. I've also thought about the same thing too. I know that CGC will always restore the designation for the official pedigree books, but I am not sure about these "From the Collection Of" designations since they might have to come directly from the collector themselves. So, if I do crack out my books and eventually send them back in for reholdering with the original label enclosed, would CGC put the Jon Berk designation back onto the new label or not?
  15. Anybody else surprised that this copy of 'Tec 31 is hitting the marketplace again so soon: http://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?id=727871 Especially since this copy here was considered to be an outlier of a sale when it was auctioned off on CC just last summer. Methinks the consignor will be losing some coin on this book here as I do not believe the 'Tec 31 entry level market has moved this high in just one year.
  16. Congrats on an absolutely amazing run to complete since some of these books are indeed tough to track down. Any plans to attempt the same for some of the other equally elusive Fox runs?
  17. By any chance, would it have been the Church Mile High copy that you've now misplaced.
  18. Since this is only your under copy here, are you going to try for the 9.8 graded copy in the upcoming Heritage auction?
  19. I am quite sure that from an overall "market cap" point of view, that AF 15 is probably the most valuable comic book in existence today.
  20. Yeah, that is the one they notified me about, I am reasonably sure I cant afford it. Did you see the raw copy on ebay is back up for sale after a non-paying bidder. It has a BIN price on it which is not overly shameless, I just hate the missing coupon. Yes, quite assuredly beyond most of the collectors here, except the ones with really deep pockets. But it does look like there is one other early Fox book in grade in this CC auction that should hopefully fall within the price range that common schmucks like us without the deep pockets just might be able to throw our dollars at with some chance of success.
  21. As I have said, in a massive auction like this with just so many quality books, there are bound to be quite a few of the non-highlight books that will fall through the cracks and hopefully land right in your lap if it hits your fancy. Although for me, I am not sure if multiples of condition guide would constitute a bargain price, but if it's a HTF early Centaur or the likes which never shows up in the marketplace, I guess that's the price to hop onto the train.
  22. Well, to offset the attractive and tempting Heritage offerings from above, I guess CC is just going to have to counter with this offering: http://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?id=732552
  23. Well, I guess you are just going to have to be patient if you are gunning for the better books. There definitely seems to be an extended lull here right now before the next Big 3 auctions are set to hit.
  24. Thanks G.A.tor! I agree with you and changed the list. I have little to no knowledge of Whiz 1 and All American, so their place was good to know. For fun, would any Silver Age rank up in here? Remember, we're not talking the highest grade. I placed Showcase #4 and Amazing Fantasy #15 based on entry levels I've seen. I still don't see Pep 22 in there and any Top GA Hierarchy List would be incomplete without this key book, from my personal point of view. Especially since it is already in the Top 10 in the Overstreet Guide and most probably moving higher up the chart going forward.
