  1. It wasnt CGC hence the parole. Oh, I see......so I guess it must have been from PGX or that Halo Certification company from down under. Can't think of any other grading company that we would be allow to mention here.
  2. What was the sentence from CGC on this MM 8 before it made its successful escape from prison? Love the bright colours on this book.
  3. Very pleased! From looking at many of the Jon Berk graded books, I would have to say that CGC was definitely not leaning on the soft side when it came to grading the books from this historic collection.
  4. Uh.... no. No argument with you as I am in full agreement with your point on the Top-Notch 22. I was just trying to and tease Richard for trying to advance the argument for Special Comics #1.
  5. This book has the same ad... Are you trying to start up the old Jackpot 4 argument again. Clearly this Special Comics has a cover date of Winter 1941, similar to Jackpot 4. Since Pep 22 has a cover date of December 1941 and was deemed to be out well before Jackpot 4, then I guess since Top-Notch 22 also has a cover date of December 1941, then Special Comics 1 is not going to win this case.
  6. I think he's always made most of his dough from selling trade paperbacks. That's my point exactly, it's all about money and how best you can make it. Since Chuck makes more money from selling trade paperbacks as opposed to collectible comic books, that's why he chooses to bring trade paperbacks and no comic books for that particular year. Doesn't make the comic book collector happy who goes down to SD hoping to find some collectible comic books at the con. Now if we take it up a step, the SDCC now caters much more to the bigger companies such as the TV networks, movie studios, and comic book publishers because that's what draws the crowds in and gives them the big profit margins, even though it's supposed to be a non-profit organization. Doesn't make the smaller vintage comic book dealer happy, but that's like asking Chuck to bring real collectible comic books to the show as opposed to bringing trade paperbacks and a bank of computers with direct access to his online website.
  7. I'm glad. They sucked. Overpriced books, poor customer service. Variant covers they had they marked up, went to other dealers who sold it at the face value. How comic book dealers should do it. Mile High was a joke. That is how I feel. +1 Yes, Chuck only has himself to blame for why SDCC is not what it used to be, as he himself is one of the culprits. I still remembered one of the last years I was down there. The Mile High booth only had graphic novels for sale and then a bank of computers while allowed convention goers to access their Mile High inventory database. Could not find a single comic book anywhere at all at any of their booths.
  8. Definitely not a high roller as this was the first catalogue I have ever received from Metro/CC since their #1 Catalogue from way back in the early to mid-90's. Had to give them a phone call in order to get one. Found out that I also had to be registered in order to bid on anything as this was the first time I had ever placed a bid for any books on their auction website. Looks like you must be the high roller as you managed to hook yourself up with a copy of the much coveted Jon Berk auction catalogue.
  9. Hey Jon; Great to see you back here every now and then, although you really should try to post more often. Interesting to see Wonderworld 11 as one of your very few "to keep" books. I guess the old time collectors will still remember when this book was the quite in demand and the second most valuable book in the entire Wonderworld run, behind only issue #3. Definitely not the case anymore as we have clearly shifted into a more cover focus collecting mind frame, although I do believe the WW 11 origin issue is now undervalued at this stage, relative to some of the other issues in the Wonderworld run.
  10. Yeah the 57k in particular, but I thought there was a 5.5 sale that kicked butt also from CC. Regardless yeah it seems some people think CC reports some people think it doesn't. Clearly this historic 5.0 sale just isn't showing up and I'm just trying to find out why. I assume its because CC doesn't report like CL, but i haven't confirmed that yet. Anyone able to? Just thought of something.....is it possible that the AF 15 sale for $57K was paid for on 6 month time payments and the sale is not actually completed until the full payment is received? That would then make sense to me since partial payment does not really constitute a completed sale.
  11. Are you referring to the CGC 5.0 copy of AF 15 that sold for something like $57K on CC? Does GPA record the CGC 3.0 sales of 'Tec 29 and 'Tec 38 for $66K and $54,010 that also took place in the exact same CC March auction? Just asking since these 2 prices are about double the going market rate and for sure CC would most probably want these sales to be reflected in GPA, similar to the $57K AF 15 sale.
  12. Anybody setting up or going to the Heritage Hall show this coming Sunday on the 9th? Just trying to figure out if it's worth the time to go since we just had the much bigger Vancouver Con at the Croation Cultural Centre only a couple of weekends ago.
  13. I believe if you sign into your account and the invoice status says Pending, it means that they have not yet got around to shipping your order. After all, is this not really the first business day after a long weekend and they already stated to one board member here that orders will be shipped on July 5th.
  14. Now, I do remember you saying something like that. Must be getting forgetful in my old age. Thanks for answering again on Jon's behalf.
  15. If I may ask, did Jon also end up keeping some of his favorite original art for himself in the end? Similar to how he kept some of his favorite comic books such as the Larson Mystery Men 3, Amazing Mystery Funnies #3, etc, for himself in the end.
  16. Here you go: http://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?referral=EAlist&id=717645&title=STARCOMICS Word of warning though......the image is from an auction house website that you might not want to visit.
  17. Gee, and I always thought it had something to do with generating additional streams of revenue for the grading companies with respect to eliminating or minimizing the unsightly or even almost invisible creases, as opposed to QP, gloss, or freshness which they really can't do much about.
  18. I didn't bid on the 6.0 bc I thought (wrongly) that the Berk copy could be had for $1500 ish. Ow I too, would have bid on the heritage copy. Mines only a vg range but happy with it Yes, I was trying for the Berk copy also, but dropped out after it hit over $2K which was already more than my original high point. Any chance the Heritage copy might be undergraded? Just asking since I no longer can find it in the CGC census and assume that the HA buyer must have turned in the label and is in the process of possibly having it regraded and reslabbed: https://www.cgccomics.com/census/grades_standard.asp?title=Star+Comics&publisher=Centaur+Publications&issue=10&year=1938&issuedate=3%2F38 Looks like there's only 2 copies on the CGC census report now, the Berk 7.0 graded copy along with another lower graded 3.5 copy. No sign of the CGC 6.0 graded copy anymore.
  19. A beautiful pin color cover book. Definitely not one of the more common colors when it comes to comic book covers. Interesting to note that the Larson 7.0 copy from Jon Berk's collection managed to fetch $3,350 while Heritage had a gorgeous looking 6.0 old label graded copy (possibly undergraded???) that went for only $776 a month earlier. Definitely a placement issue since it was stuck at the back end of the Heritage catalogue which is so easily missed or ignored, otherwise I would have snapped it up: https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/star-comics-10-centaur-1938-cgc-fn-60-cream-to-off-white-pages/a/7163-94203.s?ic4=GalleryView-ShortDescription-071515
  20. That's a beautiful looking copy of Captain marvel Jr. #4 and the pages look pretty nice also from what I can see. How long have you had that copy for?
  21. Those are some otherworldly colors! Really one of a kind! What an absolutely gorgeous pickup here! The purple color cover just blends in so nicely with the purple color label.
  22. It's a hint to you that you should sell off all of your Centaurs and start on the much more Famous Funnies run instead. Just imagine.....a Famous Funnies a Day!!!
  23. Any truth to the rumour that the Adventures of the Big Boy #1 is going to move right to the Top of the SA Charts in the next edition of the Overstreet that is due out in only a few short weeks from now? All I can say is that it's about time.
  24. I do have that oldie That's the way to go. My copy is a trimmed copy since it is part of the Harry Wildenberg bound file volume containing Famous Funnies #1 - #5.
  25. Then I hope you have the first one from Famous Funnies #5.
