  1. Now that's an absolutely beautiful looking copy! Any idea why it received a CGC grade of only 7.5 when the book seems to present a lot nicer than that as based upon the front cover?
  2. Tell that to the collectors who are paying more than 6 figures for the improperly printed upside down Jenny stamp.
  3. Great group shot! That's a shot across the bow of any collection Well then, Cap and his Foxy group of friends can jump onto my boat for safety anytime they want to.
  4. I think that if you are looking for a book that's missing the red inks for sure, then you should be checking this copy of Cap 1 in the attached link: http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=9779970#Post9779970 Seems as though nobody over there wants to touch this so-called "printing error variant" with a 10-foot pole, so you might just be able to pick it up for a steal of a deal.
  5. Besides the large obvious stain on the front cover, is that also a rusty bottom staple on the spine along with a spine roll there? Now finally, that cover looks a lot more in line to its assigned grade.
  6. And a contender for the most worthless 9.8 steps up..... Trouble #1 (2003) Last 9.8 sale on GPA: $3 Last 9.8 sale prior to that... $5 Last 9.6 sale on GPA: $2 OH! But wait! Atomik Mike comes back swinging hard! Last 9.8 sale on GPA: $1 And the part that completely baffles me is why in the world would anybody even think about getting any of these drek books graded at all in the first place.
  7. Being able to buy an OO copy is always fun. Very nice looking 3.5. Yes, another one graded from the fall of 2016 that appears nice relative to its designated grade. I wonder what his 2.5 graded copy of Detective 18 looks like since it was also graded on the same day?
  8. Perhaps too big of a statement if the sale of the GL#1 5.5 for $14,800 last Dec on CC was an outlier. Or it's indicator of levels that book will continue to realize, we'll see. All bets are off if Alan Scott appears in the Green Lantern Corps film but that's a ways away. I don't believe the sale price realized was an outlier. Personally from my point of view, If you take a closer look at the CGC 5.5 graded copy of GL 1, it would appear to me that the grading on this book is in reality the real outlier here: http://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?id=682313 Another one of the way too many beautiful GA books that were caught in the CGC grading hissy fit time period of summer/early fall of 2016. My question is at what point does extreme tight grading becomes blatant undergrading? The answer is probably GA books graded by CGC during this time period and which will become evident in the coming months as they hit the auction block. Unless there is something really wrong within the interior of this GL 1, does this really look like a 5.5 F- copy based upon the front and back cover scans of the book to your eyes?
  9. Because they look great in a slab and are much better protection than a mylar and bag and board. Perhaps you should go join one of the other comic forums where they talk about who can beat who in a fight with other comic readers. You'll fit in nicely with all the other high school and college kids. Pretty rude. +1 Books most definitely look a lot nicer and brighter in mylar as compared to being encased in a slab. Even more so, if you are talking about the old industrial looking CGC slabs prior to last summer which gave all of the books a relatively darker and dingier look.
  10. Added in the prices based upon a Price Per Point basis since I thought that it would much more informative. Do you have the dates for these sales since that would be ideal if you are trying to figure out some kind of trend line for the AS 8?
  11. I copied the image and got a working link for you; What makes you say that the book on the right is a Canadian version when both the pricing info and the Spidey logo is exactly the same as the US version on the left?
  12. Now that we've got Bradly here with us, I have a question to ask with respect to clipped coupons. Are GA books with a clipped coupon out that affects the storyline simply given a Blue Universal grade of 0.5 for Incomplete or can they also be given a Green Qualified label denoting the actual grade of the book? If there is a choice, is it up to the submittor of the book or is it at the discretion of CGC as to the type of label to be used?
  13. Ditto. But as a confirmed printing error, the book is nigh on unique and in theory should be very desirable to certain collectors. Yes, aren't some of the black and white variant sketch covers fetching a higher price in the marketplace, as compared to the original full-colored covers?
  14. There was a plateau phase with this book because Thanos next appearance seemed so far away. But now that we are a year or so away, I think folks will be surging to pick up a copy. Once people see the prices rising they will join the herd in fear of being priced out. When you realize IM 55 is cheaper than Moon Knight's 1st appearance than you know a correction has to happen. Get ready for some sparks before the first movie trailer when news starts to leak from the set. But if you wait until the actual movie comes out, then the prices will start dropping big time again, like all other movie related hype books have done repeatedly in the past. So, now is probably not the best time to be picking up a copy of the book right now if you want to acquire one for your long-term collection.
  15. +1 Love to hear these stories about the early days of collecting right from the horse's mouth.
  16. Well, based upon the front cover scans only, that is definitely an understatement. Of course, there might also be other unseen defects on the $110K copy on the back cover or in the interior which would not be showing up on front cover scan only. Could also be due to the quality differences between the 2 scans. More than likely though, another example of inconsistent grading between loose grading and tight grading time periods as the $110K copy was graded back in 2007, while the $87K copy was graded in 2015 when the competition was nipping at its heels. Another case example for buying the book, as opposed to buying the label.
  17. There are just so many covers that I love in the AMF run, yet I was unable to ever acquire a single sample one of these beautiful books for my collection. Absolutely love the bright color combinations on this particular cover here.
  18. Any idea when this sale took place? This week. Ben answered the other Q. Would I be correct in saying that this was not sold in one of their auction formats? If so, do you think it would have been able to hit this same price in one of their big Event Auctions, considering how hot this book supposedly is?
  19. $380 a year. Box also holds important documents, photos and family objects that having them lost/stolen, but insured, is meaningless. That sounds like an awful lot of money for a large safety deposit box. Unless, only a small portion of the box is being used to hold your 10 slabbed books. A box costing that amount of money should be able to hold at least 100 books encased in mylar. And we would be talking about the much thicker GA books.
  20. $21,252 That same book sold for $17,925 on Heritage in November 2016. Well, if that's the case, then it's definitely not much of a win at all on the resale of the book.
  21. Any idea when this sale took place? Is it the same copy that sold for something like $87K back in September of 2015, or was it a copy new to the marketplace?
  22. Well, to all you old farts out there.......if you didn't like Bats vs. Supes, do you think it's safe to give Riverdale a try? Certainly doesn't seem like the good old Archie that we all know from the past 70+ years. Archie apparently having an affair with Miss Grundy is starting to sound like Gwen Stacy with Norman Osborne here. Apparently, she doesn't look like our Miss Grundy at all. Seriously though, the show is apparently not too bad and draws you in almost immediately with a completely different take on Archie. Much more closer to Afterlife with Archie as opposed to the Archie we are all so used to. Haven't watch it yet myself since it's been recorded on my PVR, awaiting your reviews first.
  23. Gee, it looks like they are just crawling out from every corner of the woodwork now......must be a spider nest around somewhere. Besides the reholdered CGC 9.2 copy that CL just sold the previous week and the regraded CGC 8.5 copy that HA will come in their upcoming auction, we now have the 9.0 copy from CL, plus another CGC 9.0 copy in CC's upcoming Event Auction: http://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?id=701480 Definitely not a rare book at all as there are at least a dozen copies coming up in the major auctions just on HA, CC, and CL alone, never mind the other smaller auction sites. It could be similar to the effect Carl Icahn dropping a stock has within the investment community. He drops a stock and many follow. Obviously a much different context but when there are only a total of 20 people holding blue labels of 9.0 and above, a sudden sale of a 9.2 may spook some or possibly give others confidence to go ahead and cash in. If anything, it might actually be the other way around. The CGC 8.5 copy on HA and the CGC 9.0 copy on CC had already been posted on their sites quite a few weeks ago, and well before the announced sale of CL's 9.2 graded copy. Not so sure about this latest 9.0 graded copy that will be in CL's upcoming Winter Auction though. I didn't know the two were already announced (or listed for preview). Then the 9.2 could be nothing more than a brilliant move on Barton's part. You can settle for an 8.5 or a 9.0 a few weeks from now; or you can buy this 9.2 right here, right now! Yes, I got the Early Highlights pamphlet from Heritage which was postmarked December 15th and it's got the AF 15 in there along with the Church Hit and Blue Ribbon runs. Hhmmm.......it's also got a CGC 8.5 graded copy of Seven Seas #4 with the classic Baker GGA cover. Now, that should be a really interesting one to watch since that book's been on fire lately.

  25. I just love all of the Adams Batman related books from the 70's. Tried to compile a complete set of them back when they were first hot, but never got very far. I believe that I managed to get most of the Batman issues, but not very many of the Detective ones since they were hard to find in grade. Haven't really bothered to finished off the set since I am no longer sure which ones I am missing and I hate to pay for doubles. That's how I ended up with 2 copies of Detective 408 which is not that great of a Adams cover to start with. Also not sure how I ended up with 2 high grade copies of Batman 232, and yet I believe I might not have Batman 237. If not 237, then I must be missing 234, just not sure which one. Good thing is that I was looking through a few random slabs the other month and surprisingly found a CGC 9.2 graded copy of Detective 405. Beautiful scary looking Batman cover and one that I had certainly wanted for my collection, but not willing to pay for since it had gone up a lot during the past few years. Must get around to sorting out my collection one of these years.
