  1. Figure it's probably an appropriate time to give this thread a bump since the CC Event Auction has 6 of these Frazetta Famous Funnies coming up in their auction tomorrow on Wednesday. Not sure how they are doing so far, but like all CC auctions, they appear to be on the low side for now until it gets closer to the end. Right now, the top book is a CGC 3.0 graded copy of FF 213 sitting at a bid of $2,150. Then again, it's been sitting at this exact same bid of $2,150 since the first few days of the auction and hasn't moved up by even a single dollar in the interim. Will be interesting to see where these copies, albeit lower to mid-grade copies, finish up at by the time it's all said and done tomorrow.
  2. Agreed Me three as the rust on the staples was far too obvious and way too visible. It's so much more than just that big number on the top left hand corner of the slab sometimes.
  3. So was the crazy talk for while there about CGC 9.8 graded copies of TMNT hitting a miilion dollars. I always said that with all of the uber HG copies (i.e. CGC 9.8 or 9.6) already slabbed and so many more to come for that book, it would most likely see $100K again before hitting a million dollars.
  4. What time period was this when you had to pay only $35K for your copy?
  5. Tough times!!! Much safer with the comics, especially with the HTF GA books which still seems to be hlding up for now. I guess with a lot of these HTF GA books, especially if no new copies have been graded for years and last one to market in grade was also years ago, if you want it and it comes to market, you just need to pay up or else it might be years later until another one comes around.
  6. Well, still much much better than having some of your money into the once high flying speculative Nasdaq stocks like Beyond Meat which was trading around $230 and now down at around only $18, Peleton once at over $150 and down around $10, Roku once at $470 and now down at $60, etc., etc., etc. and with these equity stocks having absolutely zero chance of ever reaching those covid pandemic highs again.
  7. Well, looks like I should have waited a few minutes because I got my answer right here.
  8. Any opinions here as to whether this is a good result or a poor result given the current market conditions? The problem that I see with books like this is that they tend to show up with multiple copies in every single auction. So, there's clearly no longer any FOMO here because if you miss this one here, there'll always be another in the next auction coming up. More like a reverse FOMO kind of thinking here.
  9. I'd bid it up if I had the money. You actully DON'T need money, as I always received emails from them saying they are willing to take consignments in advance for your bids.
  10. Well, another way to look at it is, just think of where this book was back about 5 or 6 years ago, and if you've held it through this time period, it still all comes up smelling like a sweet rose.
  11. It will also be interesting to see where this Promise Collection retread finishes up at since the overwhelming majority of them have not done too well on their second go round with Heritage: https://www.comicconnect.com/item/986584 Unless there's a lot more action with this one here in the next hour, it looks like it might also end up suffering the same fate as the other Promise books that have gone back to Heritage for a second shot.
  12. Since it's still sitting at only $122K for now with another 4 hours to go until the fat lady stands up to ring the 3-minute bell and get ready to sing, all I can say is that's still a whole lot of ground to try to make up here. Depending upon where it closes at, it's quite possible that looking back a few years from now, collectors might be saying that this was actually a good buying opportunity to pick up a Bat 1 and one that they had regretfully missed out on.
  13. Have always love this almost 3-D like Simon & Kirby classic cover since I have a penchant for the color Green when it comes to cover colors: https://www.comicconnect.com/item/989707 Will be interesting to see where this nicely presenting copy here finishes up at since it seems to have fallen out of favor over the years, as evident by its current hammer bid of only $1,650 with only another hour and half before the 3-minute bell rings.
  14. So, are you saying that even though this Larson copy of Science 2 is showing up on CL as auction ending at $32K, it's possible that Ritter himself might have brought it back to try to resell at his higher price target of $42.5K? My thinking is that he might be happy enough with the profit made from this book already since he had purchased it as a restored copy for only $21,600 a few shorrt months ago and had the resto removed prior to regrading. Especially with all of this current controversy here on this book now, he'll probably just call it a day and move on as there's a lot of other auction opportunities coming up. Especially since he's a fan of these early Fox books in grade as evident from some of his past purchases and subsequent successful resales at substantially higher price points.
  15. Yeah! That was another head scratcher. Well, I imagine it really depends if that result is based upon only one single sale which could then be nothing more than a potential outlier and hence irrelevant. Now, if that reported result here was based upon an average of a number of sales, then that would be a much more meaningful number for comparison purposes.
  16. Actually, this CC copy here appears to be visually superior and sharp relative to its assigned CGC 6.5 grade: I am surprised the consignor didn't asked it to be verified for one of those stickers as that might have given it an extra bid or two.
  17. And this shall we say rather "scintillating" stickerless 7.0 copy on Heritage and fully NOT deserving of one managed to fetched $312K: https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/captain-america-comics-1-timely-1941-cgc-fn-vf-70-cream-to-off-white-pages/a/40200-83099.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 Of course at the time, that was still a noticeable drop from the STICKERED CGC 7.0 graded copy that CC had sold for almost $340K a couple of months earlier in March of 2022. Seriously though, if you the type of buyer who's into the CPR or any type of upgrade game, your chances are certainly a lot higher when you have a slab with a sticker on it.
  18. Looks like it's still mostly a sea of red here, but at least we seem to be seeing some green waves coming in there. Then again, most of those green waves seems to be coming in from the GA side of the marketplace. That would certainly explain the seemingly huge percentage drop for the Cap 3. As for the drop on the Cap 1, it looks like you are comparing a CL result of $201K to a HA result of $312 from last year. Personally, I feel this might be influenced by some of the old school type of collectors who don't really care for the CL auction model of tossing in last second blind bids in order to try to win a book. Being more conservative, they probably tend to prefer the CC or HA step by step incremental bidding model whereby they can make a more fully informed bidding decision and know EXACTLY what they have to bid if they want to win a book. For all we know, the lucky winning bidder might actually have had a much higher bid in there, but some of the other bidders probably didn't even bother bidding because they simply don't care to take part in this kind of "blind" bidding process. I think we'll get a much better idea of the true current value for a CGC 7.0 graded copy of Cap 1 when the one in the CC Event Auction ends this coming Wednesday because it's already well over $240K with still another two days left to go in the auction: https://www.comicconnect.com/item/988064
  19. No doubt it, and I have to say if you're going to buy a signed book definitely get good placement! Wasn't there a picture of a fugly signed copy of Hulk 181 with so many large scrawled signatures on the front cover that it looked a lot more like a veritable shopping list had been written on the cover? Either that or there was a ton of color touch they was trying to cover up by not missing a single spot.
  20. And the classic Frazetta stylized writing of his signature is also almost as perfect as it can get.
  21. Looks like this copy of Batman 1 has managed to slowly inched its way up to the $112K price point for now, with one more day left to go: https://www.comicconnect.com/item/988978 Will be interesting to see its current trend and if its able to get anywhere close to the huge $270K mark that CC was able to fetch for an equivalent 2.5 graded copy in their March Event Auction last year in 2022.
  22. It looks like you would be correct here as even this usually lower demand Frazetta Famous Funnies book relative to some of the other higher demand Frazetta FF issues was able to garner a rather astounding price of $19,800, most likely due to the fact that he had signed the front cover: https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/famous-funnies-211-signature-series-frank-frazetta-eastern-color-1954-cgc-vf-nm-90-off-white-to-white-pages/a/7266-95049.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515#
  23. Fantastic and absolutely gorgeous set of Fox pedigrees and I never get tired of seeing them and would your next bump up be this copy of an early Fantastic here: Then again, if my memory serves me correctly, wasn't there something here about an Allentown copy of Mystery Men 1 or some unforgettable book like that?
  24. Since this CGC 3.0 graded copy of Famous Funnies 213 with the cassic Frazetta cover managed to fetched $3,600 in last night's HA Auction: https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/science-fiction/famous-funnies-213-eastern-color-1954-cgc-vg-35-off-white-pages/a/122311-13334.s?ic16=ViewItem-BrowseTabs-Auction-Archive-ThisAuction-120115# It makes me wonder what this slightly lower graded copy will fetch in CC's Event Auction this coming Wednersday: https://www.comicconnect.com/item/989018 Especially since it's been stuck at this same current hammer bid of only $2,150 for more than 2 weeks, but I imagine the fat lady hasn't even entered the building yet on many of these CC Event Auction lots from what I am seeing here.
  25. In that case, how much more gravy for the CGC 6.5 graded copy coming up in their Signature Auction at the end of this month: https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/superhero/hit-comics-17-quality-1941-cgc-fn-65-off-white-pages/a/7339-94112.s?ic16=ViewItem-Auction-Archive-OtherAvailable-081514 Maybe it'll stay stuck at the current hammer bid of only $1K with that fugly looking ill-fitting magazine holder that it's imprisioned in.
