  1. I guess it's really a case of to each their own, but from your posts it sounds as though you are referring to a select portion of the CGC generation of buyers who are buying CGC labels, as opposed to buying the underlying books themselves. Believe it or not, although I am not sure who the buyers are, but there are also buyers spending big big dollars on GA books, regardless of the condition they are in and if they have been slightly restored or not, because they are simply ecstatic to find and have the underlying books as part of their personal collection.
  2. Yep, I clearly remember those times and thought that I had missed my big chance to dump my copy of Spidey 129 at top dollar. I believe that was also the time that TMNT 1 dropped back down from its $300 level or thereabouts to its sub-$100 pricing level, and I was thinking to myself: Boy, was I ever lucky that I said a big fast "Nyet" to that LCS owner when he offered to order me a copy of that toxic POS looking book directly from the publisher for an outrageous $300. Especially since I handed it back to him as fast as possible so that I could look for a piece of sanity wipes to clean my hands and thinking that nobody in their right mind would ever pay $3 for that piece of crapola, let alone $300 big ones.
  3. From what I am reading here, it sounds as though the LCS's and larger mail house retailers need to petition the publishers that they should really go back to using Diamond since they clearly treat their products more like collectibles, as opposed to throwaway disposable items.
  4. Yes, don't they realize that the pandemic driven irrational FOMO days of the past two years are well behind us in the rear view mirror now?
  5. Maybe it will arrive sooner than you think as we are certainly seeing more and more raw books, even with the big auction houses like Heritage. And the strange thing, is that the relative pricing on some of the raw HTF rare GA books are actually just as high, if not slightly higher than what we are seeing with some of the slabbed counterparts from the same time period.
  6. Yes, definitely a case of to each their own, as the CGC generation of collectors just love to see their books encased in a slab. Not so much for some of the longer term collectors like me since the slab holders from my own personal POV are just so bulky and makes it so much more like a commercial product than an actual comic book itself. To the point that I received my last shipment from Heritage back in 2019 and it's still sitting unopened down in my basement. Which reminds me that I really should get around to asking them to send my next shipment out to me since it's been quite a few years now.
  7. That's probably because the people with boxes and boxes of untouched comics stashed away in poly bags are probably in their 60's and 70's, And people with boxes and boxes of read comic books carefully stashed away in mylar sleeves and boards are probably in their 30's and 40's; While people with long boxes and short boxes of unread comic books imprisoned in CGC or CBCS holders are probably in their 20's and 30's.
  8. With encapsulation so ensconed in the marketplace today, I guess it's really all about the covers, as evident by these two results here: https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/startling-comics-12-better-publications-1942-condition-vg/a/40219-83094.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 This raw VG graded copy of Startling 12 with the Hitler, Tojo, Mussolini cover finishing at the top of the Nedor Auction with a final result of $4,400, but yet good enough to just nudged out the first appearance and origin of the Fighting Yank in a CGC 4.0 graded copy of Startling 10 with a final result of only $4,320: : https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/startling-comics-10-better-publications-1941-cgc-vg-40-cream-to-off-white-pages/a/40219-83092.s?ic16=ViewItem-BrowseTabs-Auction-Archive-ArchiveSearchResults-012417&lotPosition=0|1 Not sure if it's just me, but I was totally expecting the graded copy of Startling 10 to finish higher than the raw "equivalent" graded copy of Startling 12 in this auction here?
  9. Oh ok i will try there too Well, if you are going all the way to General, let's not forget to take some pit stops at Silver, Bronze, Copper, Modern, and just to be on the safe side, better check at Comic Magazines also.
  10. It's him. His collection was extensive and the books are floating around quite a bit carrying that same stamp. So, similar in vein to Dupchak's rather infamous Eastern Color File Copies for the very early SA Marvels which all had the "File Copy" stamp on the splash page, but the books themselves unfortunately were all trimmed.
  11. This has seemingly never stopped submittors from resubitting already pressed books before in the past and apparently still being able to successfully get back books encased in a higher graded slab. Haven't we seen examples right here of books going all the way from CGC 9.0 right up to CGC 9.8 after a couple of successul resubs? If I remember correctly weren't multiple resubs also in play even for HG copies of Action 1 and also a pedigree copy of Cap 1 and Marvel 1? Yet, so far to date, it's been pretty much nada successful resubs or consignors even attempting to go for a resub when it comes to the Promise Collection books, as virtually every single one of them are coming back into the marketplace with the exact same CGC serial number as they had on their first go round.
  12. No, you are remembering correctly, as they do have several named, but non-pedigree collections listed on their labels. One of the most recognizable ones and a perfect example would be books labeled as "From The Collection of Nicholas Cage".
  13. Like you, I am also not familiar with who Raymond Miller is and his connection to early comic book fandom. My thinking is that since most boardies here have heard of Bob Overstreet and his connection to not only early comic book fandom, but also to his ongoing and continuing influence to both the comic book hobby and marketplace for the past 50+ years and yet CGC does NOT recognize the books from his immense and impressive personal collection, I very much highly doubt they would do it for Raymond Miller.
  14. Yes, I also didn't remember seeing the two chips in the Heritage scan when I first took a look at the book and figured it was just my poor eyes. So, are you saying that the "chip" to the right on the HA scan which I do see is actually NOT a chip but a loose piece of paper that just so happened to align perfectly with the right edge of the cover?
  15. A bit surprised they didn't bothered to certifiy and slab this copy of Fighting Yank 21 as it might have attracted a few more bids: https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/fighting-yank-21-nedor-1947-condition-vg/a/40219-83075.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 Currently sitting at a hammer bid of only $675 for a nicely presenting VG raw graded copy of this GGA lingerie cover. Reminds me a bit of the long recognized classic Blue Bettle 54 cover, but only this time with a more elegant socialite in a penthouse suite being confronted by a villian with a gun, as opposed to a more lascivious femme fatale being confronted by a common thug with just a knife.
  16. Sadly, that was also the first thing that crossed my mind when I looked at those pictures there. The only possible exception might be that green jacketed guy in the third picture flipping through a box of books.
  17. Yes indded, top of the charts for this Thrillingly, Exciting & Startling Auction at #1 with a bullet.
  18. You indeed must be since it's gone up by a whole $100 since our posts, but still sitting in the top spot for this auction at a hammer of $2,600.
  19. Yes indeed, another masterful and informative tracking job done by the MasterChief himself. Besides the obvious sale which they've had on red ink here, the other column which I find rather enlightening, but not surprising at all is the New Grade column. Out of a total of 78 Promise resales to date so far, there has only been one successful upgrade which works out to a upgrade success rate of only 1.2%. Not sure if this signals the death of the CPR game or if the talk we hear here about buyers sending books back in for CPR is greatly overexaggerated and nothing but talk, or if there was a completely different game in play when it came to the grading of the Promise Collection books?
  20. What a laugh............this guy is saying that buyers should 100% do their homework when buying these books, and yet clearly he hinself has NOT done his homework. He goes on and on about how low these population counts are on these non-key books in CGC 9.8 without realizing that they are actually relatively high and could even be much higher if collectors bothered to send their copies in for grading. Just not worthwhile considering all of the cost and hassle for such a low dollar return. I certainly don't see the same potential for these books to "level up" the way that he sees them shooting for the stars with triple digit copies already slabbed in CGC 9.8.
  21. Well, how apropos then since Heritage is having a Thrillingly Exciting Heroes of Nedor Showcase Auction tomorrow with this relatively HTF key Nedor making a rather infrequent appearance in the marketplace and currently residing in top spot in their auction here: https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/startling-comics-10-better-publications-1941-cgc-vg-40-cream-to-off-white-pages/a/40219-83092.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 No doubt it'll end up finishing a lot higher than its current $2,500 hammer bid considering that it seems to be one of their showcase promo books and will be interesting to see where it finishes up at by the time it's all said and done.
  22. No, generally not, but from reading your 10+ posts on it without even giving us the actual name of the book itself suggest you just might be.
  23. Well, what I am not sure about is why in the world are you over stressing yourself so much over a book that you yourself figures is worth only $75-$85?
  24. Let me fix that for you..................a lot of the books that spiked, reflected a novice MISunderstanding of the hobby.
  25. That's an excellent catch on your part there and one that I was too lazy to follow up on since I was just looking at that miniscule WW scan. I actually did take a look at the notes and the first thing that came to my mind was that pressing and so-called non-resto cleaning must have really helped this book here since there were 3 notes on stains when it was a 5.5 copy and then no notes on any stains for the 7.5 copy. I did checked the CGC database and was a bit surprised that the new grades were not in there yet, but that was most likely due to the fact that the books were graded on February 14th and missed the update for last week. So, the update coming out at the end of today should have the new grades in there and in theory the removal of the old grades if they do the old label deletions at the same time. So, I guess we might have some clue later on tonight if this is indeed the same book or if there's possibly more than one Crowley copy which is always a possibilty when it comes to some of these pedigrees.
