  1. Well, I believe that sig plus that big big number on the top left hand corner should put you into 5-figure territory without too much of problem at all.
  2. $1.8K or 16% short = "close enough"! Do you have a selling thread coming up? Always better to look at a range of sales, as opposed to just one price point which might be a bit misleading as it could be an outlier. Not saying that the FF 215 sale for $11.4K is an outlier, but the CGC 8.0 graded copy of FF 212 that sold in the same auction and probably to the same buyer for a rather astounding $19.2K was most definitely an outlier. Like I said in my previous post, probably nothing more than a healthy bit of price consolidation before the next leg up as all of the Frazetta Famous Funnies issues have taken significant leaps upwards during the past few years. I believe this book (i.e. Famous Funnies 215) was selling in the <$3K price range for this condition range prior to the pandemic before jumping up to the $4K to $6K price range in the 2020/21 time period and now seemingly settling in at the $9K to $11K price range for 2022/23, as evident by a CGC 6.0 copy selling for $9K back in July of 2022 and then a CGC 8.0 copy selling for $10.8K earlier this year in January.
  3. I guess this 'Tec 39 is just another example of sometimes when you think that you are going to lose (i.e. the drop in grade from CGC 4.5 down to CGC 4.0), you actually end up winning in the end (i.e. the increase in price from $4,320 at HA to who knows what by the time the fat lady sings at CL). And from the same batch of Promise books that were regraded, I guess the Planet 59 would be an example of sometimes when you think you are going to win (i.e. the bump in grade from CGC 9.4 up to CGC 9.6), you actually end up losing in the end (i.e. the drop in price from $5,280 at HA down to only $4,902 at CL). From this current CL Featured Auction, I guess we will also see how another one of the Promise retreads do on their second go round: https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/thrilling-comics-67-the-promise-collection-pedigree-better-publications-1948-cgc-nm-94-off-white-to-white-pages/a/7270-95180.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 This copy of Trilling Comics managed to fetch $3,840 on its first go round at HA and is listed as a "Sale Pending" at WW for an even $5K , while the top bid on it in the current CL Featured Auction is only at $2,900 for now: https://www.comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2FAUCTIONS%2FSEARCH.ASP%3FFocusedOnly%3D1%26where%3Dauctions%26title%3Dthrilling%2Bcomics%26GO%3DGO%26ItemType%3DCB%23Item_1661856&id=1661856&itemType=0#detail
  4. Well, with the horrid reviews and the record setting box office second weekend dropoff for the Ant-Man movie, I imagine the comic book speculators portion of the movie goers are rushing out of the theatres as fast as they can so they they can flood the market with their copies of Tales to Astonish and the other Ant-Man related books before they all end up in the dollar box.
  5. I very much highly doubt that the non-comic book colleting movie goers are walking out of the movie theatres and going to the LCS's to pick up the latest Marvel or DC comic books. I am sure that this is what the comic book speculators and flippers wants. Unfortunately, what I believe is really happening and driving the movie related hyped books up on a temporary basis only is really nothing more than speculators speculating on what other speculators might possibly be speculating on. Hence, the reason for the bg drop-off in prices after the movie or TV event happens, because if it really was the movie going public buying up these books, the big acceleration in prices would continue after the movie comes out instead of collapsing in upon itself.
  6. Folks here insist that nice ASM 129s were on ebay in its early days for $50 or so, raw, of course. I don't remember because I wasn't looking for it then, I was mostly doing GA and some early SA then and buying 25 cent box books Well, I clearly remember bemoaning the fact that Spidey 129 had dropped by such a huge amount and then thinking to myself that I had missed such a great opportunity to unload the book when it was "up there" before it came crashing back down to Earth.
  7. Are you sure ASM 129 was $50 in 2000?? I never recall it being that price since the early 80 s I think it really depends on the condition you are talking about. FWIW: It should be pointed out that Overstreet had ASM 129 in top of guide for '91 with a valuation of $275 and by '98, it was down to $125. Interesting to note that during this same time period, TMNT #1 in top of guide took a even larger drop from $325 in '91 down to only $125 in 98.
  8. Although there's still certainly a lot of red in your 1-year plus chart below, the point to take into considertion here is that if that "someone" who liquidated their collection had actually purchased it years ago, everything would be a big shining green light for them.
  9. Yes, especially surprising considering all of the other shall we say "questionable or funny business" antics which they have been accussed of partaking in, their raw grading does not seem to be one of them.
  10. Well, I guess you really shouldn't include Heritage in this group here because bidders are paying more for their raw Heritage graded books than they are for the CGC graded certified copies when it comes to some of the GA sales results I've seen. I guess that's probably why we are seeing more and more raw books in their Sunday/Monday auctions and also why Heritage has a big hiring blitz out for GA and SA graders right now. Especially why would you even bother sending in books to be graded by a third party like CGC at a huge cost when they can make more money grading it themselves and selling them raw.
  11. Well then, how about the hardcover edition of the Big Little Mother Goose BLB from 1934 which is supposedly rare and and virtually impossible to find in nice condition shape?
  12. Yes, pretty much what I had expected as all of the Frazetta Famous Funnies issues seems to be doing a bit of healthy price consolidation after a huge jump up in price from what they were selling for back in 2019 & 2020. After all, we need to remember that nothing ever goes up in a straight line forever. I guess we will have to let all these copies that we've been seeing lately filter through the marketplace before we see the next leg up in prices. Perfect case in point with CC having six of these Frazetta FF issues coming up in their current Event Auction, albeit in slightly lower condition.
  13. Well, obviously you didn't see the follow-up variant cover where she loses the rest of her clothing due to the heat she's feeling, because Iike I said, John Carter (our hero to the rescue for the damsel in distress) is really in there somewhere on the cover giving her relief from her distress.
  14. Well, as I was watching some of the results for the Heritage Sunday auction this evening, looks like both of us might actually be under estimating the speed and the strength in the rise of the raw comic books relative to their graded counterparts: https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/superhero/batman-25-dc-1944-condition-vg/a/122309-17176.s?ic16=ViewItem-BrowseTabs-Auction-Archive-ThisAuction-120115 Sold for $1,920 in VG raw graded condition this evening, as compared to this CGC 4.0 graded VG copy that sold for only $1,020 or barely half of the equivalent graded raw copy back in September of 2022 when the comic book market was supposedly a bit hotter than it is now: https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/superhero/batman-25-dc-1944-cgc-vg-40-cream-to-off-white-pages/a/122239-17201.s?ic16=ViewItem-Auction-Archive-PreviousPricesHeritage-081514 I guess that's why we are starting to see a lot more raw GA books in the Heritage Sunday/Monday auctions and also why Heritage is putting out a big hiring blitz for their own GA & SA comic book graders, because who really wants to pay all that money for certified books when they sell better raw.
  15. Sweet Lou; Sir, from tonight's Heritage Auction.....................I completely fail to see what you mean by the hero not being in the covers at all, as I am sure John Carter is in there somewhere doing his thing in this classic variant cover if you look real real hard: https://comics.ha.com/itm/modern-age-1980-present-/dejah-thoris-v2-1-che-virgin-edition-dynamite-entertainment-2018-cgc-nm-mt-98-white-pages/a/122309-17259.s?ic16=ViewItem-BrowseTabs-Auction-Archive-SearchResults-120115&lotPosition=257|0
  16. Aha, I knew it..................................there is madness to your plan after all. Burn them all save for just one last remaining copy for yourself and you'll have:
  17. Well, haven't bothered to watch Vinnie's big hype video on this supposedly HTF (i.e. hard easy to find) book, but I imagine he wouldn't want the Fat Lady to get up off her big arse until it crosses the $40K price point.
  18. Hey @Gotham Kid; A courtesy heads up to a long time fellow boardie here just in case you wanted to grab another copy of this book in your attempt to corner the market on this rare HTF book: https://www.comicconnect.com/item/989009 A steal of a deal at only $5,700 plus the 15% BP juice, and now I fully understand why you sold off a couple of your pre-Robin 'Tec books.
  19. Looks like we get another chance to see the latest price trajectory on these Frazetta Famous Funnies as HA has another one coming up tonight: https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/science-fiction/famous-funnies-215-eastern-color-1955-cgc-vf-75-off-white-to-white-pages/a/122309-17278.s?ic16=ViewItem-BrowseTabs-Auction-Open-ThisAuction-120115 Still sitting at a hammer bid of $7K or $8,400 with the BP juice in there where it's been for quite a few days now. Will be interesting to see if it's able to get close to its pandemic peak price of $11,400 for an equivalent graded CGC 7.5 copy back in November of 2021 or even to its more recent price points of $9K for a CGC 6.0 graded copy back in July 0f 2022 or $10,800 for a CGC 8.0 graded copy earlier in January of this year.
  20. Yep, a bit surpised that Steve would have made a mistake like this considering the years that he had spent under the tutelage of Matt when it came to these pressing matters while they were both partners at Worldwide. Then again, it looks like he's still trying to make it into a profitable mistake as he had paid only $4,320 for the book on the first go round when it was higher graded. Maybe, he needs to come up with his own version of the CVA or QES labels since as @buttock stated above, "Still much better condition than before."
  21. Wouldn't we all, the only problem being as you had correctly stated in your post up above....................."If I could afford one." Now, when it comes to the ones which they've highlighted such as a low grade Action 10, a mid-grade Kamen GGA Blue Beetle cover, or even HG copies of an early Lou Fine Fox cover or a All-Star book, now that's definitely much more achievable for most of us here without the deep deep pockets.
  22. Well, nothing to see here FOR NOW as the "fat lady' hasn't even entered the buildng yet, let alone gotten onto the stage to test out her windpipes. Seriously though, both of these early bids won't be anywhere close to where the books are going to finished up at. You also have to take other factors into account such as grade dates (i.e. soft grading time periods vs. tight grading time periods), visual appearances of the books, etc. But bottom-line, these early bids still pretty much mean zilch for now. And for those who like to wait until the last minute or thereabouts to bid, the good thing about the CC auction format is that they have an actual end time when the 3-minute extended time periods will start to kick in if there are any additional bids. A bit more efficient from a personal timing POV because with the Heritage Auctions, it's a bit of guesswork and waiting around because it really depends on how fast or how slow it takes them to go through all of the previous lots which you are not interested in. As for CL. don't care at all for their last split seconf Hail Mary auction snipers.
  23. Aahhh......I imagine March must be coming and it's time for the Springtime auctions to kick off with another CC Event Auction right on schedule. Took a quick look at the top books and as per usual, just the same old, same old with the usual #1 suspects like Bat 1, Cap 1, Sups 1, Whiz 1, Action 1, AF 15 at the top of the list with a little sprinkle of FF 5 with the first Dr. Doom tossed into the mixture there. Just went back to my email and rather surprisingly, not a single one of those books were included as part of their auction highlights in the email which I received from CC this past Tuesday. They do, however, highlight a couple of interesting books which you don't tend to see come to market in that grade. Refreshing and nice to see other books being highlighted instead of the same old, same old in every single major auction from every auction company.
  24. Maybe you did, but probably just never realized you had it. Apparently Anderson brought a good portion of his Church Action run using credit cards at the time, as the card companies figured him for a good potential patsy going forward as he was just entering the dental field at the time.
  25. For those who are interested in an uber HG copy of Spidey 129, just noticed the following copy available in this Sunday's Heritage Auction: https://comics.ha.com/itm/bronze-age-1970-1979-/superhero/the-amazing-spider-man-129-marvel-1974-cgc-nm-mt-98-white-pages/a/122309-17115.s?ctrack=473536&type=herolot-a-comic-close-122309-tem022423 Only problem is that it's running a bit higher than $250 to $300, as it's already sitting at a bid of $19,200 including the Heritage BP juice.
