  1. Any idea as to the date of grading for the 3.5 copy that is currently up for auction? 07/13/2012 2012 was a loose grading year. This book is evident. Another perfect example of buy the book as opposed to buy the label for those in the know. Any bets that the CGC 3.0 copy would have graded out as a CGC 4.0 or possibly even as a CGC 4.5 copy back in 2012? Unfortunately, a large percentage of the bidders on these auctions tend to go only with the label because they don't pay as much attention as us and as a result, really have nothing else to go on.

  3. Not even close the 3.0 way way way better to have. Any idea as to the time period when these 2 copies were graded? Just wondering if it is possible that the 3.5 copy was graded during one of CGC's loose grading periods while the 3.0 copy was graded during one of their tight grading periods? Tape on the 3.0? Not sure about the 3.0 copy since I can't find it on their site. The 'Tec 29 CGC 3.5 copy does have tape on the interior cover and centerfold, as clearly specified on both the CGC label and CC's auction listing description. Probably loosely graded as it looks like a pretty rough 3.5 graded book.
  4. Highly unlikely that a book could have sustain that kind of damage while in transit if the exterior packaging did not have any damage at all. Looks like the book will be yours since I do not see the PO accepting this claim since there is no evidence that exterior packaging had any damage at all.

  6. Not even close the 3.0 way way way better to have. The 29 3.0 has been removed. Having a 29 3.0 and a 29 3.5 in the same auction would not be a smart move. An obvious posting blunder by CC with respect to these 2 copies of 'Tec 29. If I was the consignor of the 3.5 copy that is remaining in the auction, I would not be thrilled at all as this mistake is most likely going to cost the consignor a lot of money.
  7. How long ago was this and based upon the asking price, did it appear as if the store owner knew what he had? Most LCS's I know would definitely have books (actually photocopies only) like this on their wall behind their sales desk to keep the busy hands from lifting them out of the store.
  8. How is there ANY WAY that was damaged in shipping? If I were selling someone a couple 4 figure books, I would package them so well, it would take them a week just to unwrap. Even with poor packaging, however, I am not sure how that damage could have occurred. Postal should deny claim (which would allow you to keep the book, which is still a great looking book, albeit with a FMV substantially less than what the seller originally bargained for). I hope this all works out for you, Rick. I know you were really looking forward to these treasures. +1 From the above picture, there is a zero percent chance that the damage at the bottom of the spine is due to shipping damage while in transit. Do you still have the mailing box the book was shipped in so that we can take a look at it to see if there is any damage to the exterior packaging? Certainly looks like an obvious oversight or grading error on the part of the seller from my point of view.
  9. Looks like HA is gonna be competing with CC for early Detectives in their upcoming featured auction. Tec 28 2.0 Tec 31 6.5 Tec 33 1.5 Tec 34 6.0 ® Tec 35 3.5 ® Tec 38 6.5 ® Well, the bottom 3 should be less of a competition since they have been restored, which tends to scare off some of the potential purchasers.
  10. Congrats on your super spectacular find! Looks like a little press job probably wouldn't hurt some of those books. That is, if you are into that sort of thing.
  11. I believe "if" dc does create a monthly shazam comic and "if" they do the proposed captain marvel movie, interest will pick up for the title and values will increase... I do believe you really meant to say Whiz 22, whether or not there was a monthly Shazam comic and even if there is NO Captain marvel movie.
  12. Tried to keep it to covers with supes on these are my favs 1- supes 14 2-action 1 3-action 7 4-action 12 5-supes 17 6-supes 1 7-action 13 8-action 15 9-supes 24 10-action 17 Just off the top of my head. List could change tomorrow Does this mean that you consider Action 12 to be a Superman cover or is that cover just so good that you had to make an exception for it? Well, I guess Superman does technically show up there in the corner of the cover, similar to how Archie shows up on the cover of Jackpot 4.
  13. I would expect a strong 5.0 to potentially reach a 5.5 price but not to exceed it unless someone thought it was going to possibly upgrade. Have you not heard of the rising trend in terms of buying the book, as opposed to buying the label which is so passe in today's market. Especially with collectors now willing to pay record dollars for entry level copies of key or HTF books when they become available, even if they are in ungraded raw condition and sometimes, even in restored condition.
  14. Sounds to me like a potential lawsuit as Dan is stealing and publishing copyrighted auction results information right from you boys at the CL website. Seriously though, it would be fantastic if CL could set up some sort of archive database for their auction results going forward. Aren't the prices realized from a major auction like this a matter of public record? One would think so otherwise it would be illegal to post even a single result in passing that said if it upset clink I'd pull the thread You guys do realize that I was only joking and saying it in jest since I did have it in italics, along with the emoticon at the end.

  16. I'm sure all of us are in that boat. I know I am. Some books are almost impossible to come by, and when they do show up, trends be damned. Get it while you can. Yes, and when you are buying to keep, the important thing to remember is that it's not so much about trying to time the market, as opposed to time in the market. It's simply amazing how time in the market can often times overcome serious mistakes such as overpaying or failing to detect restoration when you had initially brought the book.
  17. Especially when the half the dealers want to report all seems designed to steer and mislead the subscriber's impression of the market as going in one direction only. On the other hand, GPA themselves are knowingly guilty of providing only half information since they apparently only report on CGC sales and nothing at all on the other company's slabbed sales.
  18. I shall make an attempt at one of them. I've always wondered if having such an extended run of big dollar books might actually keep prices lower than what they would normally be? After all, collector's pockets are only so deep. In a normal auction, you may have only 2 or 3 of these books available, and as a result, all eyes would probably be focused on each one of the books. In this particular auction, you have 10 books which is probably far too many for most collectors to even think of picking up. As a result, would many books result in less eyeballs on each on of them as collectors would probably focus in on only the ones which they really want, and therefore, result in lower prices.
  19. Tape just makes me cautious as there are a set of circumstances (which of course won't apply to all books) where a book graded under the old rules will take a decent hit on re-submission. Any idea when CGC changed this policy with respect to tape on books? Sounds as though the new label books with tape is a safer bet as opposed to old label books with tape then.
  20. +1 Definitely will be the one to watch as it is clearly the highest graded book out of this pre-Robin 'Tec run. Will also be interesting to see if it is going to do better for the consignor on this go round. Originally sold by HA as part of their Billy Wright Auction back in late February of 2012 as a CGC 8.0 copy for $44.8K. Flipped back out 2 short months later in early May on HA as a CGC 8.5 copy, but took a big hit as it came in at only $38.8K on this second go round. Original purchaser probably lost over $10K on the attempted flip of this book once you add in auction reselling fees, pressing fees (if any), and regrading fees. I am fully confident the book will do a lot better for the consignor on this particular go round, given how hot the pre-Robin 'Tec books are.
  21. Wow.....the pre-Robin Tec's seems to be one of CC's specialties as they seem to have them in almost every single one of their auctions. Any idea when this next auction is approximately going to be?
  22. Depends on what you did with the money you received from selling your AF 15. If you are living in the right location and you had used it as part of a down payment to invest in real estate after the housing bubble crash, you can probably pick up 2 or 3 better copies of AF 15 with that money.
  23. I asked. It's not for sale or coming to market. It was a customer's copy. Roy; You are nothing but a teaser!!! Now that you've got all of the other boardie's panties tied up in knots waiting for your little scan.
  24. Well that sure is Fine +1 That is most definitely more than FINE, especially the beauty on the left.
  25. Absolutely loved the Junior GGA covers, but unfortunately, they were always a bit pricier than what I was willing to pay when they did appear in the marketplace.
