  1. Would any of your copies be free of those notorious spine ticks which seems to show up on every single copy of Cerebus 1 that I have seen so far? Since these spine ticks appears to be a production issue with this particular book, does CGC discount for this flaw since they seem to do it for other production related flaws on other books?
  2. So, you are saying after you got your first PL 17, it confirmed for you that PL 23 was indeed the better cover.
  3. Absolutely stunning copy!!!! +1 Actually, you need the grease pencil mark there. Otherwise, how in the world would anybody know that was issue #23.
  4. I guess this must be the version that Mitch has been patiently waiting for as opposed to the PG rated theatrical version that was released.
  5. Didn't know that you was missing the Funny Picture Stories on the left. Never really thought it was that hard to get relative to other Centaurs since I had picked one up from Harley several years ago. Hope you find your last 2 to finish up your Centaur collection.
  6. Now, there's somebody with a spicy and saucy taste! That must be one of the most classic lingerie covers of all time. Almost picked up a real killer years ago, but apparently somebody else had called in a few hours earlier and beat me to it. Probably turned out for the best since it was from Mark Wilson, so it most likely would have come back as a PLOD. As for the debate between PL 17 and PL 23, I have always unsuccessfully gone after the 23, but this was just because I knew that 17 was way past my budget. If price was not a factor, it would still probably be a toss-up between the two of them. Some days, the full frontal shot of PL 17 looks nicer, and on other days, the close up on PL 23 looks nicer.
  7. Would this book still be a PLOD if there was no color touch on the cover, BUT if it did have the 4 pieces of tape on the interior of the cover? Or would it be a GLOD?
  8. Nope. Dr. Occult was first. He had a cape? Don't think so. Yes he did in More Fun issues 14-17, which were published in 1936 - 1937. Your are correct, sir ... so let me rephrase: More Fun 31 was the first printed look at Superman ... ever! Well, if you are talking about Dr. Occult, then how about going all the way back to January of 1933 for Science Fiction #3 where Siegel & Shuster had their Reign of the Superman story. Ok, he did look more like Lex Luthor there as opposed to Superman.
  9. Those dates would seem to make sense since they fall on a Tuesday and Thursday which were the 2 days for newsstand distribution where I lived during the 1960's and 70's. Not sure about the 1930's though, but it would surprised me if they were the same 2 days.
  10. Ronaldo, nice to hear from you! Where have you been? Yes, it's almost been 9 months since your last posting. BTW: Thanks again for that nice copy of Star Spangled 45.
  11. Though NA 24 is my favorite, NA 25, 26, 27, and 28 are indeed rarer. How rare is NA 13 in comparison since it is designated as Rare by Overstreet and is also given a SI rating of 10 by Gerber in his Photojournal? No doubt those watery theme adventure covers are just so much better such as NA 25, 27, 30, 31, etc.
  12. OH MY GOODNESS Have the inside front cover shot of this. Does that count.? WHOA!!! Undervalued I agree 100% Is it not the More Fun 31 that should be more important since it apparently came out about a week or so before this Detective 15? Not sure about the release date for New Adventure 26 since it is supposedly so rare that this is one of the few books that Overstreet does not even have a valuation for in his price guide, although I still prefer the cover for NA 27 a lot more.
  13. Wow, I was not even aware that CGC would grade books from the Victorian Age. Can't even seem to find it under the Victorian Age listings in the Overstreet guide. That must be one of the earliest graded books out there since it is from 1899.
  14. from the prolific mister magik woo collection - it's such a nice copy. Yes, it would appear that Magik is sticking pretty firm to his initial plan of auctioning off his books over the next few summers. Only problem is that what was once the highest graded copy of a particular issue may not necessarily retain this title by the time they hit the auction block. Especially when it comes to some of these early SA Marvel books where some private collectors still have uber HG copies sitting in their collections just waiting to be graded and sold when the time comes.
  15. Looks closer to an 7.5 to 8.0 with the upper left corner and center wear. Still a gorgeous copy of a famous icon. Pages look sweet. 100k sale? Yes, back cover definitely looks a lot sharper than the front cover on this particular copy here. Like you said, still a gorgeous copy on the whole though.
  16. I just picked up a 7.5 for less than 70K for a customer...so I "doubt" it is a real sale... R, I texted the guy and got the same story. Could be real. The 9.0 Spidey 1 he has sure is pretty. well, there is a sucker born every day, so who knows Under 70K for a 7.5 yes, 110K for a 7.5 I call NPB. Any guesses from the wise board members as to what the 8.5 graded copy in the upcoming HA auction in August will go for?
  17. Is this Phantom book not from early 1939? If you are looking for a pre-June 1938 Phantom book, you should probably go to his first comic book appearance in Ace Comics #11 which had a cover date of February 1938.
  18. Wow, a Churchill & Hitler cover with a Hitler splash page and story to boot. Now, that's must be a rare combination to find! Congrats on your superlative pickups.
  19. Classic cover! Most definitely!!! I've always wanted to get a copy for my collection over the years, but every single time, it always seem to be a couple of bid increments above what I was willing to pay.
  20. Not often that the Boards are treated to a Gerber 10!! I'm just thrilled with the book, thnx! I'm astounded that this issue contains a 12 page story, something I wasn't aware of for an early 1937 comic book (image off the net, not from my copy): Man, that is such a sweet book! Wow, in such bright beautiful condition, and a Gerber 10 at that!!!
  21. I was under the impression they would do back cover scans if requested and if the book is over a certain dollar amount.
  22. Looks like you drive a real tough negotiator there. I've always love this cover the most out of all of the Sandman Adventure covers.
  23. That's an amazingly gorgeous 4.5 (spine splits?). Not sure, but I think the only spine spit is the one you can see at the bottom. I'll have to check the next time I look at it. Yes indeed, that's an absolutely gorgeous copy of a book from way back in 1936!!! Is there something wrong with the interior pages or the back cover to bring this book all the way down to a 4.5 grade?
  24. Actually, this one always remind me of some of the Timely Subby covers which would come later, especially in terms of Subby #10.
  25. Are you sure this is the best time to be submitting a gorgeous raw copy of a white-paged book like this, unless you were thinking of using the other company. The more than likely Newton rings on this white paged copy could potentially kill the beautiful look and seriously damaged the market value of this book in its current raw condition.
