  1. I won all the auctions!! Well I just set the new low prices for 6.0 and 7.0 ASM early comics. Honestly I don't care about the price as I just really want to have ASM from this era at a price I can afford. It's all about having the book and being able to get it! Couldn't possibly be happier at this moment.
  2. Prices are falling. Makes collecting now WAY more fun when I consider where prices have been.
  3. Bidding on ASM 6,17, and 19. Curious to see if I get sniped.
  4. I'm looking to buy a few items this year. So far my limited purchases have been direct buys on MCS, but I'm interested in trying my hand at an auction to try and pick up some early FF books on the cheap. I will most definitely bid with a low ball price in mind and won't be disappointed if I miss out. I'd much rather miss out than have buyers remorse if I overpay. I see that recent auction prices have fallen off a cliff for some lower grade books, and that has peaked my interest. Personally I'm happy with 6's or above in general so I'm won't be playing that 9.8 game, but I really know nothing about the different pros and cons of the different sites, and I have no idea about any "tools" or "tricks". For instance: Can you watch multiple items on some sites without opening several browser windows? Do all comic auctions end with last second sniping or do some auctions add time if a bid is placed at the last second? Are some outfits less inclined to have "shenanigans" going on than others? Thanks to any that help.
  5. I'd like to pickup some early FF stuff as well. I was even thinking of trying my hand at an auction for the first time. Comic Connect has a few books I'm particularly keen on acquiring. Any good old threads out there with advice on taking part in an auction for the first time?
  6. Posters here have WAY broader knowledge of books than I do so I'm just wondering what "deals" people here are finding with the recent pull back in prices. I, for one, having only gotten back interested during the spike in prices have been holding off on making lots of new purchases even though I had decided some time ago that I wanted to pick up some Kirby stuff since that was what I unknowingly was collecting as a youngster many moons ago. I've had my eye on completing my run of Eternals, but wasn't interested in paying the ludicrous prices of 2022. Over the weekend I was very happy to see on MCS books 1-3 in a 9.2,9.4, and 9.4 (MCS graded not CGC) grade for $65,$53, and $46. which I immediately scooped up. Obviously not everyone's fav, but still I figure that was a huge deal compared to prices a year or so ago. Anyways, just wondering what deals others found recently or for what deals people are on the lookout?
  7. I did finally hear back, and earlier posts were correct. The submission was split into 2 parts so the CGC# was not important, and, of course, I didn't keep the original email so I lost the new submission numbers. However, all is good in the world once again as my precious books have been found. Not sure if the post here got attention somehow, but it is interesting that I got an answer 2 days after the original post. Thanks again everyone.
  8. Sent 11 comics in for C&P and grading last November. They showed as received for months, but now the submission doesn't show up on My Submissions. I sent 2 emails asking what's up and haven't heard boo. Anyone ever have this happen? Do I try and call? Keep emailing? Of course, I never took a screen shot of the submission when it was listed as received, AND I no longer have the Fed Ex receipt so not sure what leg I have to stand on 'cuz at the moment seems as if I got nothing proof wise that they lost my order. Super bummer 'cuz this box had some of my personal favorites from my 40 year old closet find including my Defenders 1 and Marvel Spotlight 28 Any suggestions much appreciated.
  9. Cracker! Hah, yep I am most definitely a cracker. Cracked about 7 so far. Initially I sent away some Detective Comics with the intent of selling them through MCS, but when I got them back I thought to myself "why am I selling something?" I don't really need the money to buy new comics for my collection so why not just keep my oldest books. Yes, they are lower grade, but on display they look great. I even bought a couple and cracked them to make a display like I saw here. I bought CGC'd stuff 'cuz I knew it was guaranteed quality. As to the framing, I copied the look shown by others on this board. Michaels did the framing. Not the cheapest by a long shot, but I really like the results. I bought and cracked 2 8.0s to make the Silver Surfer frame. I only had #50 originally. Personally I get way more pleasure seeing the art on the wall than I would pulling them out of a box once a year. When I do get the urge to read something, nothing beats the vibrancy of reading an electronic version on my iPad. Of course, I still have several hundred comics in 3 short boxes if the urge to sniff and touch old stuff strikes
  10. And the upper staple for comparison. Don't know if it is in other copies, but this also shows a flaw by the knee. It appears they did clean the staples as well.
  11. Ah hah. The tiny fleck of dirt to the right of the staple shows in both pics!
  12. I am surprised this discussion didn't start sooner. No, I didn't switch comics somehow. It is the one in the original photo. I'm scouring the front cover for a flaw that shows in the original and the slabbed. That's the rub isn't it; neither has an obvious flaw outside of dirt and spine roll.
  13. Well thanks for that. I know it doesn't 100% fit with your normal persona here on CGC, but I certainly appreciate the thought. I totally get the response on this thread since I came on so strong as a total newbie. In my defense I was simply a little too excited by my new hobby, and the potential of what was hiding in my box, and my success in other hobbies gave me a bit too much hubris as well. Anyways, it has been a learning experience for sure over the last several months as I have continued to lurk and pout.
  14. I've been framing my favorites and initially I was buying reader copies, but then I realized I could read them as well as thousands of others by subscribing to Marvel Unlimited so that's what I did, and I couldn't be happier with that choice as now I can reread what I frame as well as comics and whole series even that I never had interest in as a kid and then decide if it's worth going out and hunting down a copy.
  15. Over the last many months I have sold some of my collection and used the proceeds to add to the series that I enjoy more. One lesson I have learned and the one that I think is most relevant here is that photos can be poor indicators of flaws OR potential. Overstreet says a 9.0 can have 4-6 minor flaws. The larger flaws that this book had were highly amenable to a Clean & Press. Looking over the slab all I find are 3 spine ticks and extremely minor foxing on the back. I'll keep looking and try to find more if I can as I have zero reason not to be honest with myself, but so far I've only found the 4 flaws, all minor. Also, I'm not sure what to make of this, but as I recall the cover did not feel like normal comic cover material, it felt heavier than normal, and I honestly believe (EDIT: or I should say I know) the color (almost white) hides flaws as does the weight of the paper.
  16. I will most definitely be cracking this case and then framing this with a couple other CAs I own. I was more interested in the grade as well as the Clean & Press since it had terrible spine roll and was dirty. Before I crack the case here are some photos:
  17. Hmm. It came back a 9.0 so what say you all now.
  18. And a 9.0 is on sale on eBay.
  19. Got the answer back today:
  20. No. I sent it for C&P. Received 11/9, and it's Fast Track/Economy so I expect it back end of next year.
  21. And here are the results of my first test. I over graded 2 out of 10. Not too hard to learn how to grade, but folks here think it's some kind of magic.
  22. The reprimand from CGC Mike constitutes and condones Cyber Bullying and is illegal. I did not violate any forum rule nor was anyone required to read or respond to any thread I started, and yet a forum administrator felt it was alright to defend a person directing negative comments at my person. That is not ok.
  23. Same comment I made on the other thread. The internet has this wonderful feature called "ignore". If my thread is inane why post? Is your life so sad the only pleasure you get is being insensitive online when anonymity makes it so easy? Try following the age old wisdom. If you don't have anything nice to say then try saying nothing. You might find you sleep better. This thread may seem inane to some, but it got me researching more in other places hence the concept of comics becoming like Penny Dreadful collectibles became a new thought which may change the price I was willing to pay. It's not inane. It's the internet and asking a "what if" question is fun to answer if you want to try. Sheesh.
  24. Interesting, just watched a YouTuber "Reserved Investments" who makes the case that comics will be like Penny Dreadful collectables and disappear in the future when they lose cultural relevance. Means I need to focus on something I would like. He also argues go for one big Key from pre-1975 as a hedge. The Silver Surfer idea is a good one. Arguably my favorite Marvel character of all time. Be an interesting talking point at Thanksgiving for sure!
