  1. Does anybody take the time to actually read anything? The post was deleted. Also, I said I over reacted and I sent the book in to be cleaned and pressed because it has sentimental value so I don’t care if I make or lose money on the book since I have no intention of selling BUT for the record it is still growing in popularity:
  2. Here's another from the same box I sent in so again we'll get a check of everyone's guess for real in a couple months.
  3. sent this in to CGC as well so yet another we'll be able to compare.
  4. I sent this one in as well so we'll get to revisit everyone's guess. Hopefully just before Christmas.
  5. Looks very similar to another crease in my collection and I asked CGC directly and got this reply. Also I mailed the Defenders 1 in yesterday with 20 other C&P candidates so we should have a definitive answer in a couple months
  6. If he removed it and did not offer additional comments then obviously he would prefer it goes unsaid and to leave the discussion. After my quick retort I realized he had offered me advice in other replies that was quite helpful. As I mentioned in my earlier reply, it is possible and even likely that his intent was not what I interpreted it to be initially and my reaction may have been overly strong. It is difficult to discern intent on the internet from mere posts and many times one misinterprets the tone.
  7. There is little that is official in the world of comics, but GoCollect disagrees:
  8. Well, it appears the post in question has been deleted by the poster so at this point it's moot, and to answer your question at 56 years young I have learned that taking short cuts is never an answer so, no, I do not skim replies.
  9. I will most definitely report back after the C&P. I'm planning on sending in 20 total for C&P and Grading. I'm very interested to see the results.
  10. For sure I will be including this with a box of 20 total that I am sending away especially considering it's one of a very few "Keys" I uncovered in my collection. Also, it's more about taking care of a book I bought 40 years ago with money I earned working every AM delivering papers rain snow sleet or hail than it is about an investment, but even if I was trying to do this as an money making process I'm fairly sure it would be a net gain. I made a mistake in posting this in this forum instead of the Grading and Restoration forum. My question in the title and first sentence was "Being new and having never submitted anything to CGC I was just wondering would pressing help this guy:"? I was not asking for an opinion on what is in my collection to date or whether or not it was worth spending money to clean and press this book. I was asking if it was repairable since I have no previous knowledge of whether or not pressing can help water damage. Subsequently I found several old threads on this exact topic and now expect good results. I will be very happy to get back my book in a few months hopefully clean and neat, and if I decide to sell it some time down the road I am certain it will fetch a far better price having been repaired and graded. Would I buy a book in this condition and try to flip it after a C&P? Of course not. But that's not the situation here, and I'm sorry if I misunderstood Z's comment, but it came off as a back handed insult of this book and my desire to repair it.
  11. Wow. Folks around here sure are Debbie Downers. Well, as I see it looking at the book first hand and feeling more comfortable by the day in my ability to understand grading ranges, and assuming pressing and cleaning works to remove the waves and the dirt from the back then this is likely a 5.0 which at the moment is worth $200 so let's see $22+$15 for cleaning, pressing and grading plus misc costs of another $10 or so brings me to an investment of $47 to get back $200. Even if it comes out as a 4.0 it's still got a 100% return on investment at a minimum and that's not considering the fact that there's a CGC 3.5 listed on Ebay for $300 . . . so I'm thinking it's worth $50 bucks to try. https://www.ebay.com/itm/255056608563?epid=1800973142&hash=item3b628efd33:g:2S4AAOSwJUFg8krX Thanks for the advice. Pretty sure I will ignore it, and work to improve and preserve this "Key Issue".
  12. So, just for learnings sake I am showing this comic. Today I learned about printer creases and lo and behold I found two of my comics that had them. One has a small one, but this one runs the full length of the front cover. Ignoring any other flaws that can be seen I'm curious how much to downgrade for the 2 production flaws evident on this comic. One is obviously the crease, but the other is the mis-wrap. How much do you deduct for each? Do you start at an 8.0 and go down or something along those lines. Any thoughts much appreciated. Also, whatever the answers are, I'd be equally curious where one learned the answers because clearly it's not the Overstreet book, but Etna Nick's 2nd tutorial on YouTube does discuss the issue, but I wonder where he learned.
  13. Thanks for the link. Already asked the boss if I could use the basement and she gave me the big "NO", BUT . . . she said yes to using my "fish room" aka our living room with the 240 gallon fish tank in it. I'm worried about the humidity levels near the tank so I'll need to check those before deciding on anything. Thanks again for the link. I'm sure it will provide a host of ideas!
  14. I recently took my collection out of storage after more than 4 decades and have been cataloging everything. I've now seen a couple of wrinkles like the one below mostly on back covers. This is the first I've seen on a front cover. Clearly not a human caused normal crease. Is this graded any differently than a typical crease? I posted the question in the "Ask CGC" forum as well. Hopefully, I will get an "official" answer.

  16. I have a great book Marvel Spotlight 28 and it could be a 5 - 6 but for the damage on the back. Being new and having never submitted anything to CGC I was just wondering would pressing help this guy:
  17. Wow! That is awesome. Do you have a room with a display of some of the collection? Do you ever read the actual books? Do you send any in to be graded and slabbed? Love to hear more of the story!!
  18. So, done for awhile I hope 'cuz over the last 2 days I purchased Nova 1 CGC 9.8, Ms.Marvel 1 CGC 9.8, Black Panther 1 CGC 9.8, and Black Lightning 1 CBCS 9.8 plus 1-10 of those series at 7.0 or better raw. Decent collections I think with 4 Keys.I'll be long dead before this guess is tested, but my guess is they will all appreciate considerably, but Black Panther will appreciate the most with likely a 10:1 return over 40 years.
  19. I have two packing slips for two different orders. I'm afraid I was quite uneducated when I placed the orders and have since learned much more. I still want to send in a box for grading, but now I would like to include clean & press as well. Also, I badly misjudged the tiers. Can I cancel my existing orders so I can start over and if so how does one do that? I have not sent anything yet. Packing slip numbers are: CGC7478141502 CGC0749281504
  20. More great input, thanks! I've decided to step back in and I am super lucky that plus or minus a couple grand in a hobby really isn't a big deal for me (I race Porsches as well and that costs a little more), so I'm just buying books a) I already own in lower condition b) are part of a run I'm missing, and c) (most importantly) comics I truly liked in '76 '77 and still really like. If Nova 1 drops value by half I won't be jumping for joy, but I certainly won't feel bad or at least I hope not - we shall see when or if it actually happens Meanwhile I revised my focus already 10 times in 2 days now I'm thinking I'll buy #1 Nova, Ms. Marvel, Black Panther, and Black Lightning. I actually have most all of these in number 1s, but they're 7 or 8s at best. The plan is to put the 9.8's on the wall and then have a table below with 1-5 for reading. Any thoughts on that idea? Anybody have something like that with a picture? How do other folks put their collections on display? Anyways, thanks again for all the great advice.
