  1. Gerard Butler's Long-Awaited 'Greenland' Sequel Finally Begins Filming This Week

    Quote

    THE BIG PICTURE

    •  Greenland: Migration , the sequel to Gerard Butler's hit film begins filming Monday, directed by Ric Roman Waugh.
    •  The sequel is expected to explore different cultures' responses to global catastrophe.
    •  Stars Butler and Morena Baccarin are both expected to return for the sequel.

A sequel to the Gerard Butler film Greenland is finally happening, with filming set to begin this week on Monday. Greenland: Migration is a sequel to the 2020 film, Greenland, which starred Butler and Morena Baccarin as the leaders of a family who try their best to find sanctuary with a comet set to hit Earth. Along with the two stars, director Ric Roman Waugh is also returning to oversee the film.

A release date for Greenland: Migration has yet to be revealed, but given filming is only just about to start, a 2025 release is most likely. The director posted Variety's earlier reporting on the news to his Instagram, remarking he is "fired up to start rolling cameras." The first film was a modest hit, both financially and with critics, especially at the time of its release amidst the COVID-19 pandemic in December 2020. Greenland earned $52.3 million (including theatrical box office and VOD) and was seen as a solid action flick by most critics.

  2. This came up recently as the main reasin Tim Miller and Ryan Reynolds had a falling out. Deadpool 3 will prove out if it was all worth it.

Deadpool Director Tim Miller Says He Left the Franchise Because of Ryan Reynolds

    Quote

But according to Tim Miller, who directed the first movie, Reynolds' possessiveness drove him to leave the franchise (David Leitch stepped in to direct Deadpool 2). In a recent interview with KCRW, Miller explained how creative differences with the film's star led to his eventual departure from the series.

"It became clear that Ryan wanted to be in control of the franchise," he said. "You can work that way as a director, quite successfully, but I can’t. I don’t mind having a debate, but if I can’t win, I don’t want to play. And I don’t think you can negotiate every creative decision, there’s too many to make. So Ryan’s the face of the franchise, and he was the most important component of that, by far. So if he decides he wants to control it, then he’s going to control it."

Miller cites that same lack of full creative control as the reason why he will probably never work with James Cameron again either, after directing this year's Terminator: Dark Fate. "It has nothing to do with whatever trauma I have from the experience," he said, "it’s more that I just don’t want to be in a situation again where I don’t have the control to do what I think is right."

There were several confirmations for an untitled top-secret project Scarlett Johansson was working on in collaboration with Marvel Studios. These confirmations came from Marvel Studios' boss, Kevin Feige, and Scarlett Johannson herself. When ET interviewed Kevin Feige during THE MARVELS premiere, he has confirmed there was a project in the works with Scarlett Johansson:

    • ET: "Yeah, it was like one of the things that was talked about at this retreat were Scarlett Johansson and Robert Downey Jr. possibly returning at some point."
    • Feige: "We did not discuss that at the retreat is the truth. We're doing a project with Scarlett."

Scarlett Johansson also commented on this top-secret project in an interview with ComicBook back in June 2023:

"It is still happening, [but] not currently because nothing is happening right now. We're all sort of in this holding pattern as we wait out the writers' strike and potentially our own guild strike, and so on and so forth."

Shadow the Hedgehog will make his live-action debut in the sequel, with the one and only Keanu Reeves providing his voice. Until then, the Paramount+ streaming service is aiming to fill the gap with a six-episode original miniseries centered around the popular supporting character, Knuckles the Echidna. The first live-action Sonic the Hedgehog spin-off, aptly titled Knuckles, is an easy success. Paramount+’s Knuckles show is a good-natured buddy comedy that provides laughs for the whole family. Of course, there’s also a bountiful amount of Easter Eggs to keep fans satiated until Sonic 3.

Knuckles may not be the essential connective tissue between the second and third Sonic the Hedgehog movies. What it is, however, is a surprisingly irreverent piece of family fun that makes the case for more Sonic spin-offs or, at the very least, another season. The sense of continuity between the films and show, even having Sonic the Hedgehog 2 cinematographer Brandon Trost back but as a director, makes it feel like a worthwhile canon endeavor. Knuckles should have no trouble satisfying both die-hard fans and younger audiences.

For years, Dead Boy Detectives was in development hell. It started its journey as an HBO Max show before ultimately finding a home at Netflix, where it was able to become something more — a series set within the same continuity as The Sandman.

Another aspect I liked was the animated backstories. There’s only two; one for Mick (Michael Beach) and one for Esther. The unique and creative animation styles wonderfully fit the tales they told.
