  1. Hey! How cool is this thread. Sadly, I'm not much of a "member" in this club - as I don't have any of the books on the two lists a couple of pages back. However, I now have a new objective! I love price variants. Actually, I collect Whitman rares, Canadian editions, and the like - so I'm sort of "one foot" into this club already. Most of these look like pre-pack books - ? Anyhow, I know that the rule is you are not allowed to talk about the club, but are you permitted to type answers? 1) Where is the best "listings" for the books I will be seeking? (I saw the 30/35 cent Marvel listings and now have those) 2) DC? Whitman/Gold Key? Any lists on these publishers? Thanks for any fuel you can provide towards the obsession.
  2. Nice! I am looking forward to seeing this. I've often thought of using filing cabinets - how to they work for comics? I wouldn't want to use the hanging folders, so those of you that use them - do you line them with anything to accomondate comics?
  3. My preciouses iz in the dark....deeeeep in the dark.... no light on my preciouses... More seriously I used to work at a museum and took a course on collection conservation and management. If you look at some of the companies that supply archives and museums, you can get all manner of inert tapes and films and containers, etc.... Of course, personally I think it won't matter 100 years from now - at least not to me!
  4. One glorious day, I'll build an entire room around a couch and a mini-bar
  5. Okay - I'm inspired. Last year I was able to visit the "Canadian Golden-Age Showcase Museum" - also known as eccomics Comic Room. I've still got some interference in the basement - some sort of WAF-frequency (Wife Acceptance Factor) - however, I've started on my Office/Comic Space. There is no possible way I can cram all my comics into the space allocated for my office. So I have a "feeder" room and a "office/comic" room. This is a work in progress and I am in the process of getting a LOT of original art framed professionally. I'm putting it on acid-free matting in anti-glare frames (read: $$) - so that is slower. Every time I go to spend $ on framing, I end-up buying more art or comics! Such is the fate of the comic collector. First: The feeder room: My hardcovers and the "cube" of current series that I collect - the "active" collection. Of course, it's spilt over. Then: The "deep" storage. These are a couple dozen assorted long and short boxes piled way into this deep space for my "dead" series. Not that this is working out at all - I keep digging into them and there are boxes of special odds and ends in here. They are not organized very well. Maybe I should call this the "heap" Dig the cool wood panelling ,...... man..... Okay - onto my "office" My ducks stay with me. They are in a secured place (GA ducks) and the ones that fit are in the Comic drawers under the desk here. I really need to get some original art onto the walls. I did go and get some wall shelves and I have a rotating display of what I like at any given time up here (until I get more, but then I'll have more comics....) Anyhow. At the moment I am trying to complete some sets of key bronze and copper, so there are some here. Of course, ducks are always required. One day I'll have more artwork up and even maybe another wall for books, etc. It's a real work in progress. The kids have to move out eventually!
  6. 9,651 Wow. Didn't ever realize I had so many.
  7. Those are absolutely great covers! I love the way that the girls used to try and "pick-up" Jughead in the older books. In my "crystal ball of the Archie universe that will never happen" - I always imagined Betty and Jughead as married.
  8. Here's another Halloween cover. Not from a B&V Spectacular - this one is the digest from the year prior. I'll grab a scan of the published comic shortly.
  9. Oh! - FYI for those liking the B&V Spectacular covers - the title was cancelled due to sales short-falls of only a few hundred copies. If you ever wanted to pick-up a copy, know a kid that needs a new comics, and/or just wanted to leave some copies at bus stops to promote comics - now might be a good time to grab a copy or two of this title! If it makes a "blip" on the Archie radar, we may get lucky and avoid losing this title. I know they are very well aware of the facebook group and the "grass-roots" organizing I am attempting here, there and everywhere.
  10. Very nice! One of the better modern Archie covers I've seen If you like that - here's the original art!
  11. Okay - have to post this (unless I already did -- then it looks like I have to post again!)
  12. Dan Parent is a great guy - I never met him, but have about 80+ pages of original art from him. Too many to post here, but if you want: http://gallery.me.com/bergdoll#100396&bgcolor=black&view=carouseljs&sel=0 Also - you may not be aware - they are planning on canceling Betty & Veronica Spectacular! Some of the best covers in recent history are from this series. I've started a Facebook group to try to show support for the title. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=81253110464&ref=mf
  13. Early Canadian price variants often had the initial "C.D.L." on them and occasionally had different advertisements. Sometimes the "C.D.L" was on the cover and there are some on the inside. From what I understand (and can't say for sure) is that there were experimental prices in the San Francisco are where 10 cent Dells were 15 cents. (Uncle Scrooge 17-22 are known to have this).
  14. Absolutely! I love editions from other countries - especially the Commonwealth countries (I also collect Commonwealth and BNA stamps).
  15. Here's one I like. First the cover: ...and a close-up on a very neat "bonus" on the logo. Actually - I'm a little bit of a "variant" freak and collect odds and ends such as issues with and without UPC symbols (Newsstand vs. Direct). As I mentioned earlier, I was writing about this on my website. Here's the link - I'm always interested in what other duck fans think! My article on Uncle Scrooge oddities.
  16. That is a very hard to get WDC&S! Nice! Does this bring back memories for anyone? Not the best cover image, but it brought a smile to me!
  17. Very nice! Those albums are great and worth every penny. I just need to complete my WDC&S set and I'll find inner peace.... If anyone is interested, stay tuned. I'm working on an "article" for my website on Ducks and will post the link as well as some cover scans here tonight... ooooo.....foreshadowing!
  18. I like most all the artists and haven't had enough exposure to the Latin American and European artists. I'd love to see more reprints and let's get some covers posted here! Who cares about the language - if you have them, I know the *I* for one want to see them!
  19. I've noticed some indexes here lately - here's some of the best money you will ever spend if you collect Uncle Scrooge! http://www.uncle-scrooge.com/ I'm surprised it hasn't been posted here before (unless I missed it)
  20. Here's a couple of duck books modeled by my son. I wonder if he'll forgive me when he's in his 20's
  21. Not the best copies? Who cares!? They are FANTASTIC books (and, yes CGC seems tougher on these than other genres) Southern Hospitality is one of my favourite books - it's not Barks, but it's a great, great story. Very nice collection.
  22. I love the "Life With Archie" run - some stunning covers there. Of course, early PEP's aren't too shabby either. As for Canadian editions of the Archie books... they aren't so special... if you want, I'd be happy to take them off your hands so that you are not tormented by owning such boring, uninteresting books.... just let me know... I'm here to help!
  23. Opps! I meant to say the first "longer" Uncle Scrooge book. The infamous Bear Mountain is the first appearance.
  24. I actually ended-up starting a thread on this - "Who's book was it way back then?" - it seems to have stuck a cord and folks are posting up a storm!
  25. Very, very nice! I love when a page can stand on it's own like this one does.
