  1. I was assuming it would be more in line with this example. You think much more? Machine Man Cover Art
  2. Not yet. Filled out the "Inquiry" just this afternoon.
  3. So, I'm looking to buy my first ever piece of original art and found a piece that is perfect for what I am thinking, but a quick search online and I see this seller has a less than perfect history. How do I know if what is being offered is the real deal? Should I just avoid this seller at all costs? Thanks for any help on the topic. Mister Miracle 14 Cover Art - signed by Jack Kirby
  4. Sorry if I sound condescending. Trying to be glib not condescending. Hard to get intentions across smoothly on the internet.
  5. Us old men have seen much Young Grasshopper, and much that we take as a given is hard for the youngsters to accept, but we know it is true without having formal proof, but if you must then I have 3 supporting items, two formal, one anecdotal. 1) THE STOCK MARKET, HOUSING AND CONSUMER SPENDING: A SURVEY OF THE EVIDENCE ON WEALTH EFFECTS 2) The economics of diamond price movements 3) As a member of a driving club, I can tell you that membership was down in '08, '09 and '17, '18 and is currently at an all time high. But, not to worry. This being a free country and all, folks are free to form their own opinions on matters as they see fit. So if you want to believe comic prices are independent of the current wealth boom created by equities then more power to ya and good hunting!
  6. You'd be surprised what correlates with the stock market. It's all about disposable income and when stock prices are high so too is disposable income.
  7. Thanks for the info! I filled in my Mister Miracle run and added to my Fantastic Four early collection at a lot less than most recent prices. Never bought from Reece's before. Lots of interesting books!
  8. Just entertaining thoughts from a random internet bloke. I am not a tax specialist by any shape or means, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night It's all about the expense side of the ledger. Can you imagine the nightmare of work for the IRS if they start investigating expenses associated with EBay sales? What if I paid $1k for an ASM 300 at a con, and all I got was a hand written paid slip on a generic sales form? The IRS has a history of accepting such forms already especially when it comes to hobby income. Keep good records, fill out the proper tax forms, and pay the man his $500 on your $5k in net hobby income, and you'll almost certainly stay under the radar. Now if selling on EBay is a true business for you then that's a different story, but if you're just a hobbyist this new tax form is a nuisance and nothing more.
  9. I knew someone here would have more info. Thanks for sharing! And, now I've got a Geller signed print. Couldn't be happier. What a great story; can't wait to learn more of the details.
  10. Y'all are making money now, but the end is nigh. Forsake your sinner ways.
  11. I'll watch it again tomorrow and let u know. I use Apple TV in my house and hate how the movies get changed every time I watch them. Just watched Avengers #1 and Apple TV removed the "puny god" scene. Really annoying. Truly wonder what the algorithm is that decides what I will see.
  12. Hah! You are not wrong to emphasize the Canadian role in the matter, at least if one is to believe the movie. They deserved enormous praise for the success of the mission, and the safety of the potential hostages.
  13. Hardcore Kirby fans probably already knew this, but I've been hunting for Kirby signed art and came across a piece today that has a truly interesting back story. One of my favorite movies that I've watched numerous times is Argo. It's the true story of how the CIA used a fake movie production to sneak out a group of Americans hiding in the Canadian Ambassador's house in Iran back in 1979. According to the website's sales ad Kirby was the screenwriter of the movie used by the CIA and the print (which I bought) was also used by the CIA and was signed (printed signed) by none other than Kirby himself in '78. Maybe others already knew this, but it was quite a surprise to me, and a pleasant one at that! https://www.nostalgicinvestments.com/by-artist/1285/jack-kirby/lord-light-pavilion-joy-giclee-print-signed
  14. Clearly a very personal question with many variables. As a pure collector who rarely if ever sells anything, I have purchased slabs because of the certainty of quality and immediately cracked the slab upon receipt. Doesn't matter if it was $50 or $5000; I have no interest in looking at a slab on my wall. To me they are ugly and detract from the art, but that's me.
  15. Yep. The million dollar question is how many real "collectors" are out there that will still be buying when prices have been falling by a large margin. There are more than 5000 copies of X-Men #1 graded by CGC and lord knows how many are left in the RAW. Are there enough collectors who don't already own a copy to justify paying $4k for a 4.5? I asked my Magic 8 Ball and it said not only no but heck no, but my Magic 8 Ball seems to be broken of late so I wouldn't put any credence in it's predictive ability.
  16. Yeah, difference is in that case Big Government flooded the world with helicopter money. Just look at the joke above about "blow & hookers". Most likely not too far from the truth. I think the next event will collapse the stock market bubble and seriously hurt people's perception of their wealth. That'll be a different type of swan. Unfortunately for some the party can keep going for a long time and make the bubble even bigger. Anyways, that guess and a fiver will get you coffee at Starbucks. Aaa, I'm just pissed 'cuz I sold some stuff too early.
  17. New boardie, old time collector . . . just one anonymous guy's random opinion so don't no one go get their panties in a wad. Here's XM 1 in a 4.5 going back to 2003. Hit new highs 4 years in a row now without a pullback. To me that's a bubble if I ever saw one, and I predict sub-$4k within 5 years when the next financial Black Swan takes down the global economy and cash becomes king. If you're hating me now just wait 'cuz if I'm still around in 5 years and this proves way off you get to jump up and down and point your fingers while laughing.
  18. Hi There, New guy here. Sorry if this is a silly question, but I'm very interested in learning how you generated such a data filled report. Is that created by a program you wrote yourself or is it part of some online service or what? Thanks.
